Sony has really nothing to look foward to next gen, they basically put all their work into this gen, and that work hasnt even paid off, Nintendo and Microsoft built simple systems that work good, and have alot of new features they can add next gen...i think that Sony is not going to come out with a new Playstation anytime soon, while Microsoft and Nintendo will release a new console in the next 3 years, while PS3 will probably stick around 6 years

expect great systems from Nintendo and Microsoft within the next few years

Saying Sony wasn't samrt from their launch until the beginning of this year, I would agree w/ you.

However, this year, Sony is smart, if not the smartest of all the companies. They are doing just about everything right.

And how is Nintendo smarter than Sony this year if their sails have dropped, and still have no amazing hardcore games.

MS is pretty good this year, but all in all I'll hand it to Sony

Think again... Xbox 360 and Wii are not future proof.

The next Xbox will have same graphics as PS3 anyway...

Nintendo knows what its doing, its not on top for no reason, once you think the fans will leave nintendo then BOOM, theyll throw out something crazy that the other systems wont have

its the only way they can actually stand a chance, ps3 owners dont want a new system yet, while microsoft and nintendo sort of need to make a new system, and if sony tries to come out with something out of this world, theyll charge 1000 dollars for the system and remain behind again

You can tell mircosoft's worked very little on their system  , If you havent noticed this generation is moving along very slowly, I dont see MS, Nintendo updating anytime in the next 2-3 years. PS2 did so well because it was not a powerhouse console but it lasted longer then the Xbox and gamecube, and the product cycle of the Ps3 has still a LONG way to go.

You think they would stand a chance by launching years later? Sony could easily re-use the PS3's technology in the next console and launch it around the same price/time as the other two.

Agreed. Although it wasn't paying off at first, I think now the work Sony has put in is paying off as PS3 sales are pretty high.

Well obviously the PS3 WILL have better graphics because the blu-ray dvds hold almost 40gb more than the dvds they use for the xbox but with the xbox being almost as good just makes sony fail

I dont think we'll be seeing any new consoles anytime soon... unless it's from Nintendo, basically because they're still using last gen hardware.

Nah. I doubt any of the 3 companies launches with even half your predicted "1000 dollars" launch point. Reason? No need. As fits with the general theme of this thread, Sony has already done most of its work for next console cycyle already. They're already putting out consoles with BluRay, HDD in every console, integrated WiFi and BlueTooth, and free online... all (IMHO) required assets for the new generation of consoles. They've also still got the Cell Processor's development completed, and it's likely that the next Sony console will be Cell based as well, to defray costs.

So what will the additional costs be for Sony's new console be? They'll want a faster BluRay Drive, which by the time the new consoles start rolling out shouldn't cost more than the current model in the PS3 now. They'll want more RAM, though with the rapidly declining prices for RAM, that also will be mitigated by time. What's left? An array of Cells as the CPU (2-4 sounds about right to me), and a new GPU.

This gen was a huge jump for Sony and MS to make tech wise. Next gen will be about getting more assets on the screen at a time, Increasing the sizes of these worlds, and doing it all in 1080p with 60 fps as the floor for framerates.... it will be more about perfecting the HD cansole experience than reinventing or revolutionizing it.

To be honest, I wouldn't want Sony coming out with a new system that soon anyway. New gaming systems tend to be quite expensive and there's nothing wrong with my PS3 as it is.

I don't agree with your reasoning. Sony is not smart because they've lost almost 5 billion dollars on one system. Nintendo and Microsoft are smart because they are making money. That's really all there is to it.

Exactly, sony invested in the cell platform for a reason, i'll doubt they'll change the cpu structure next gen, all this investement i'm sure its going to pay off for them in the long run

I find it hard to believe that you really believe what you wrote. What would you have them do get a good idea then not apply it wait for the compition to do it come on man think. And "Microsoft built simple system that work good" was you around at launch time or hear of RROD. Wow might want to re-think some of your statements. I own a 360 and it's great but what your saying is crazy Next Gen will be another leap forward in tech for both consoles.
