But doesn't Shadowrun do cross plat? I mean yeah it would mean to make it fun for both, you have to make it so both sides are on equal grounds, but it's still possible too. :P

That is the big thing on cross-platform (in terms of console-pc gameplay) multiplayer. It's so disadvantageous to console players that it is not worth it.

always annoys me when people are like we could own you if we played you ... ya the best vs the average probably ... but you put the best PC vs the best console on the same game and i could put my LIFE on the line that PC players would win ... just because of the precision that a mouse provides ... ya we may not be able to run or walk at 100 different speeds but aiming precision makes up for it imo.

Would you be offended if I said Console games played more realistic than that? Hell yeah that was fast. I couldn't keep up what was going on!! Thats cool that its like super jumps and stuff, but its just too fast for me. I didn't see where every shot went I just saw the gun aming at the other players and fireing. Ahhh.... not my type of game. So are you saying thats exactly how Halo 3 plays on the PC? Yikes.

Developed in tandem for PC and PS3, DC Universe Online is doing everything in its power to bridge that chasm between the two very different corners of gaming. While it hasn't yet been confirmed whether players on the two formats will coexist in the same crime-ravaged cities, various features point to this being at least a target for SOE. Most notably, it has been announced that PS3 owners will be able to hook up a USB mouse/keyboard combo should they rather pretend they're playing the PC version, while PC players, in a rare opportunity, can instead opt for a controller. This is surely a sign that the developer is proud of the console-based control setup, which is the first major hurdle in the PC-to-console transition process.

Because a mouse and keyboard set up for a PS3 MMO magically stops working for a shooter even if a developer decides to use the same technology.

Just have a keyboard/mouse options (For PS3), so you can just hook a keyboard/mouse up and have at it.

EDIT: Loving the music as I watch.

This is the reason we dont have cross compat PC and console shooters. Imagine these kind of people with mice playing Halo3 against someone with a controller ... the SR would just wreck everyone ... it would be rediculous. I guess, im looking for a reason how someone could explain how someone with a controller can have this speed and precision ... I dont think its physically possible to turn that fast on a controller anyway.

Yet i do fine against keyboard and mouse users with 360 controller playing pc fps? It's just people doing testing i guess suck at controllers.

controller has some advantages over mouse like being able to spin in circles, to do this on mouse you will have to keep picking mouse up off the pad after running out of space. it's not hard to aim with a controller just strafe crosshair in general players direction and just move analog slightly as needed, dont totally just aim freelooking analog only, use strafeing to help you aim also.

Quake 3 on dreamcast you could play against pc users well pc users could join dreamcast servers and play against dreamcast users. you could use controller or keyboard and mouse on dreamcast, but i really have seen some controller players hanging with keyboard and mouse users. i used to use keyboard and mouse on dreamcast quake 3 but i ran across some controller players that werent easy kills, plus the 360/ps3 controllers much better for shooters than dreamcast controller. everyone keeps forgetting a mouse, you gotta worry about mouse going off the mouse pad plus to do spins you gotta pick up mouse and reposition it eventually. mouse is only better in ability to stick crosshair on enemy easier because you aiming with ur arm instead of thumb on a controller.

Why would you need to spin in circles? You can actually change strafe direction quicker on kb. Another disadvantage to controllers that isnt brough up often is that the thumbs are required to do way too much. 6 fingers are wasted holding the thing. Most shooters you cant change weapons or reload without taking a thumb off the movement keys.

controller fps you gotta take hand off free look analog for a second, but it's not enough to effect gameplay just press reload button fast. keyboard you gotta take finger off D letter aka right strafe to press r letter to reload how much pc games set up.

Fair enough. Please explain how, using a keyboard, you change your strafe direction from 60 deg. from aimpoint to -60 deg. from aimpoint faster than you can on a console. I'll wait.

I would like to see 360 and PS3 have cross-platform play. The fanboy wars online would be priceless.

You can't strafe in a sniper or stealth situation. You either have too few shots or you give yourself away. As for spinning, pros set their mouse sensitivities so high that they can turn and spin with tiny flicks of the mouse. That's one reason gaming mice require such high tracking resolutions.

And most games rig weapon selection to the wheel. Even without keyboard hotkeys, you can cycle weapons pretty quickly on a mouse wheel.

Keep it seperate. PC gaming and console online gaming is almost worlds apart, in terms of communities, range of audience and everything else inbetween. It would just turn into a mess of hardware balancing / control balancing, and bridging a gap between communities. As if GWFL isnt enough evidence that PC gamers want console gaming out of their PC. Things like setting up a 'online identity' as a requirement. Its almost an insult to many PC gamers, many of which have had 'online identities' since the 90s.

As someone who has Quake 3 on the Dreamcast AND PC - and played both frequently. What you are saying is load of hot air. Quake 3 had Dreamcast mouse and keyboard support for a reason. And playing Quake 3 on a gamepad was almost impossible, especially considering the DC version lacked any auto aim or aim assist. - Again gamepads are not designed for first person games, or aiming, The nubs are more suited to *camera control* - the way they use turning ratios is a perfect example. In the first person perspective this is both unnatural and akward compared to the movement of a mouse, which emulates the way move - not at ratios). Hence why a mouse has always been poor for third person camera control, and a gamepad poor for first person camera control.

I think he is simply saying its faster to hit a key than move a analouge stick from one extreme angle to another.

In all due respect that is true, even if its more unnatural.

I don't see how the point should be inflated :?

It's possible, but no one likes Shadowrun on PC due to the absolutely terrible way they balanced it. They basically gimped the game for PC users, and then there was the standard autoaim featured in every console FPS like CoD4 and Halo 3.

It would be nice playing friends in a game like L4D who have the PC version, while i have the 360 version. You would need to balance it somehow, because m/kb would have a huge advantage.

Can't beleive it hadn't been mentioned yet, but in UTIII for the ps3 we can already play controllers against Mouse and Keyboard. I mean you can tell a difference when guys are using k&M but for the most part still fun and I've been dominated just as bad from other players using controller aswell lol.

When not fun, then I plug my K&M in then its all down to business lol.

Plus in my crazy old man imagination, I've thought it would be cool to have a 3rd Party Dev. make a Crossplatform ps3/360 shooter MMO, not really fps or tps, but really depends on the class you chose. From the 360 side if you chose a Halo class you run fps, if Gears class you got tps. Just like on the ps3, if you chose aMGS class you run tps, or a KZ class you run as first person view. But basically you would have all of the classes formed from each consoles game characters to make up the game. Assassin classes from Splinter Cell or MGS, Tactical infiltration from GRAW and Socom, Assault classes from Halo, PD0, Rfom, KZ:) Each class could aswell have their own world to occupy, or just make it a neutral galaxy that both platforms are trying to take over by dominance.

The servers would be ran by the 3rd party dev with background help from both Sony and MS. But yea it would be nice to have something out there that players could go against the other platform in. But it would definitly need to be something definitly epic to be as grand as something like that needs to be. To know that is where the battle of gaming systems is fought :)

http://ps3.nowgamer.com/previews/ps3/493/dc-universe-online?o=0#listing\

Developed in tandem for PC and PS3, DC Universe Online is doing everything in its power to bridge that chasm between the two very different corners of gaming. While it hasn't yet been confirmed whether players on the two formats will coexist in the same crime-ravaged cities, various features point to this being at least a target for SOE. Most notably, it has been announced that PS3 owners will be able to hook up a USB mouse/keyboard combo should they rather pretend they're playing the PC version, while PC players, in a rare opportunity, can instead opt for a controller. This is surely a sign that the developer is proud of the console-based control setup, which is the first major hurdle in the PC-to-console transition process.

lolfaqs
Also note that they are including K&M support ... if it wasn't needed why do it?

This is the reason we dont have cross compat PC and console shooters. Imagine these kind of people with mice playing Halo3 against someone with a controller ... the SR would just wreck everyone ... it would be rediculous. I guess, im looking for a reason how someone could explain how someone with a controller can have this speed and precision ... I dont think its physically possible to turn that fast on a controller anyway.

Yet i do fine against keyboard and mouse users with 360 controller playing pc fps? It's just people doing testing i guess suck at controllers.

watch that video ... explain to me how anyone could compete against him with a console controller ... i would claim BS. You couldn't even turn fast enough.. let alone switch weapons fast enough.not enough weapons on a controller to even fast switch to 5 weapons let alon 7 or 8.

[QUOTE="bigmommashouse4"]Quake 3 on dreamcast you could play against pc users well pc users could join dreamcast servers and play against dreamcast users. you could use controller or keyboard and mouse on dreamcast, but i really have seen some controller players hanging with keyboard and mouse users. i used to use keyboard and mouse on dreamcast quake 3 but i ran across some controller players that werent easy kills, plus the 360/ps3 controllers much better for shooters than dreamcast controller. everyone keeps forgetting a mouse, you gotta worry about mouse going off the mouse pad plus to do spins you gotta pick up mouse and reposition it eventually. mouse is only better in ability to stick crosshair on enemy easier because you aiming with ur arm instead of thumb on a controller.

High DPI mice remove having to pick it up ... i Never have to hardly ever pick my mouse up .... maybe if i spun 9 or 10 times sliding it across the keyboard ya ... but whats the point of just spinning constantly .... At least it doesnt take 4 seconds to do a full 360 spin ... and then your tapping some controller nub to get a precise shot because you have the sensitivity up so high that the deadzone is like a micrometer before it starts moving left and right at the speed of light.

[QUOTE="lowe0"][QUOTE="Cranler"] You can actually change strafe direction quicker on kb.

Fair enough. Please explain how, using a keyboard, you change your strafe direction from 60 deg. from aimpoint to -60 deg. from aimpoint faster than you can on a console. I'll wait.

ok you let off A and you hit D .... wow that was totally slower than having to move a controller nub across its 16 degrees of sensitivity and watching it slow down then reverse direction...
