None of points that you have made ensure the quality in games. Lengthy development cycle can be also two-handed sword, and it could lead to several omissions and compromises (vide STALKER, or Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth). Big budget isn't everything, you can't buy ideas with it.

All the reasons you gave mean nothing if the gameplay isn't good.
I'm not gonna say KZ2 will kick Gears 2 and R2 a****, because i haven't played them yet, but will say this, KZ2 sure a hell is a lot of fun to play. I have high hopes for it.

Well, that's the core element of gameplay, you can't change it. You can change the means of doing it, but ultimately the outcome would still be the same whether it's Portal (well, maybe not the best example, but I used it because of its ways of disposing of enemies when you sometimes had to do it), Chronicles of Riddick or Doom 3 for that matter; but you can alter a lot of gameplay mechanics and keep introuducing the new ones in order to keep things fresh and exciting everytime.

1 reason why Gears2 dominates Killzone2:
Gears1 and Gears2 are AAA games. Killzone2 is not out yet and the only reference we have is its prequel which was a flop
I don't know if KZ 2 will be the better game but it will definately be the best looking, by far. And so far, all impressions from the beta have been overwhelmingly positive, so it should be a great game as well as a great-looking game.
I think the topic should say, KZ2 SHOULD be better than those two games since it's been in development for sooo long. If it's not, then it's utter failure esp. with all the hype it's been receiving.
I personally think Killzone 2 will end up a masterpiece. I find the idea and story very very good. Its very well designed. Helghan sounds like some evil nation and it sounds cool, if youve listened to one of hitlers speeches and heard the emperors speech at the intro of the first Killzone you'll see some resemblence, Hitlers a great speaker, Helghans emperor is also very good, the colours of Helghan are make it seem so evil and cool. How the soldiers look from the Screenshots make them seem so hightech and dangerous while humans look inferior and desperate. How its introduced in the first Killzone made Helghan look so powerful and organized. Similar to what hitler made germany back in the 40's. Personally I really like what sony did with Killzone overall. I have unrealisticly high expectations for Killzone 2. I enjoyed Killzone 1 quite a bit but ultimately got bored.
