Red Alert 3 Gamespot Review - 8.0

I didn't see this coming -- I expected AAA. Looks like there's a possibility of the console versions scoring a 7.5; disappointing score though, Red Alert 2 was one of my favorite games of all time.

I'll still be definitely picking this up. what about you guys?

Yeah the videos I've seen look awesome...I'd buy this game for the cutscenes alone.

I realize that but with so many other games coming out it's been dropped down a bit on my must buy list. I'm still getting it.

It's a tough holiday season. With all of the amazing games that have been released this year, RA3 will have to take a back seat. That's not to say I'll never buy it, it's just that I've got so many other games that I would like to play before it.

You know as I post my response I looked at the review the first thing was..

The story and cutscenes are wonderfully corny as a pro. Nice :)

And hermits can't catch a break. At least l4d will come. C&C isnt my thing but still a good score. wonder what kasavin thinks of the review.XturnalS

RA3 and L4D are both multiplatform. Besides Starcraft 2 and Dawn of War 2 is on the horizon.

On topic, lower than what I expected; not that I care since the review makes it sound like an awesome RTS and that's all I care.

Wow... the SP really has to be pretty bad for them to score it an 8. I don't see how they don't even highlight on the fact that this game utilizes three unique and balanced player factions. That is rare as heck in RTS games, and aside from Blizzard, I don't think anyone has really done it right for the longest time.

I'm still picking this up tomorrow for the multiplayer alone. However, I'm still shocked they would give it such a low score.

yeah but they are meant to be played on the pc. I mean RTS on consoles is meh, and I know I'll be playing L4D on the pc.

The overall Red Alert 3 experience is a raucous one, but it lacks the technical tightness featured in the last few Command & Conquer games.

3 factions is pretty much the standard now...

EA did it with CnC3 and Generals.

Hell, even Red Alert 2 had 3 factions.

Dawn of War shipped with 4 factions, it currently has 9 unique factions.

And 8.0 is not a bad score. 8.0 is a very good score. And if you actually read the review then to be honest, you would understand why it got an 8.

You missed the key words. 3 factions that are unique and balanced. You can't honestly tell me CNC3 and Generals had balanced factions, and especially not the DoW series.

You stated a new point, so no I did not miss it. I'm simply stating that the score doesn't make sense relative to the scores other RTSs were given, and as such there is inconsistency. That said, I don't agree with the two main flaws he pointed out. Co-op not being up to where he feels it should be, which is a secondary component to the game anyways. Or, how he feels that the units path poorly.

If you don't agree with this, by all means disagree on the point. There is no reason to argue with my opinion, without an substantiating rebuttals to the arguments I pose.

Miss all the fun that was had with RA2 (and 1)

That's nice score, but I wasn't really interested in this game anyway.

Here's to hoping Dawn of War II, Starcraft II and Empire: Total War live up to the hype (scorewise) next year.

I hope it's balanced, and that Greg K. will listen to our complaints and foreword them to the team. CnC3 was one of the most poorly balanced games ever, especially after the massive economy nerf (might've just affected KW).

I'll probably try this out when it's cheaper. While I put 150+ hours into CnC3, I was really disappointed with EA's support.
