alot of picky posters would first be delighted for me to remind the oblivious that Red Dead Redemption was actually Red Dead 2, a spiritual sequel to Red Dead Revolver. With the tremendous success of RDR, saying that the Red Dead Franchise is over is a very stupid thing to say. I am 100% sure Rockstar will support Red Dead from here on as a franchise growing alongside GTA.

The question is though RD3 is easy to see coming, what do you guys think the future of Red Dead is? Is it going to end up with installments as plentiful and common as the GTA installements, you think? Or rather, with its slightly less approachable premise than GTA, will it come out much less often than GTA? And where would the series go from here most likely? Will sequels all be spiritual successors you think, or for example would the next Red Dead be about say Marston's son? Whats ur call?

I say slightly less approachable because GTA is a part of American culture, a very well known franchise known to anybody that recognizes video games at all. RDR was fantastic, but the franchise is far from being as well known, and many judge it strongly by its cowboy cover. So putting the name RED DEAD on a game wont make it sell like putting the name GRAND THEFT AUTO will. Also just in general a cowboy game just wont sell as well as a gangster, crime, drug undeworld game. Sad but true, even though i personally like RDR better than GTA by a landslide

It depends, I think the series will be sustainable if done with longish intervals (5 -7 years) The western genre is a niche genre overall, It does have a market, but its nowhere near that of the GTA series.

The way I figure is that if They keep it rare enough to have people waiting and wanting a new RD game and not saturate the market, then Sure it can be sustainable.

Every time people get added to the playerbase, so it can be quite profitable I think, The "One game each console Generation" would be a good rule of thumb here.

The western Setting has alot of options, and alot of stories and settings can be made, keeping it diverse may be a bit harder then GTA (and thus needs a longer development time).

Id be quite happy to see it happen despite having around 0 interrest in the western genre, the more games and settings out there, the better.

I don't think it has much future TBH. They ran the whole game with the "outlaw's life-style is a thing of the past" line,
Marston is dead
I can see RDR3 happening but nothing after that point TBH.

I'm guessing if they do carry it on (which they probably will) it won't be a sequel to marstons story and will be like GTA where each game has a different story.

There's no need for a sequel, they packed three games worth of filler into the last one.

I can't stress how much I love Red Dead Redemption (currently my #1 game of alltime... until GTA V comes out) but I don't want a Red Dead 3 yet.

There are rumors of Red Dead Revolution floating around...

...but I rather Rockstar put out another Red Dead DLC along the lines of "Undead Nightmare" but one focused on Jack since much wasn't done with him. Brand new characters, new weapons, new story, and more multiplayer add-ons. I'd gladly shell out 1200 MSP for that.

Well being that the "first" Red Dead game had practically little to do with RDR, I don't see why there won't be a third one. Hell, maybe it can follow Jack, that could be good. Yet either way, I'm sure RockStar is busy on the next GTA anyways.

Rockstar San Diego made RDR so while Rockstar north works on GTA San Diego could continue to develop a new Read Dead. As long as it's staggered like every two years either GTA or RD release one of their game's their good to go.

As for where the series can go you can't push it to much father then 1910 otherwise is will be to moderen. What they really need to work on is a moraltiy system that works. I want to be a freaking outlaw I want to rape and pillage towns, rob banks and trains at my whim. Shoot sheriffs in the back get chased by the cavalry, rustle cattle you know be the scum of the earth. Or I want to wear the white hat kill every outlaw in the territory and ride off in the sunset...

Nothing until next gen imo and imo that's for the best. Keep it a special treat. Rockstar now has a lot of great franchises running.

Maybe another dlc spin-off for RDR.

It would be kinda cool if they make a third Red Dead game taking place in.............. San Andreas. EDIT: and there hasn't been a lot of games with Civil War, so the next Red Dead might integrate it somehow.

no im saying that gta is a modern setting , so u can do ANYTHING with it whereas rdr2 will be fairly similar to rdr if it were to be released.

I would love to see them do a open ended Samurai game like Red Dead, that would be fun.

I suppose they could continue the series with John's son, but he's such a ***** that no one would want to play it. If Activision gets their hands on it they'll probably turn it into an annual recycle fest and ruin it.

That would be great, but then, they would really understand the culture before trying to make one. Plus, the swordplay should be realistic. I wouldn't want to see swords flying and samurais dancing around like crazy, that would be both laughable and pathetic.

One reason RD franchise won't be as popular as gta repeatedly IMO is the fact that it's not as relevant to our society. Driving cars, listening to the radio, using cell phones and computers. Not many will line up to ride a horse, use a lasso, pick flowers in a game very often. RDR was great but it will take serious work to remain that huge.

There's more that can be done with that setting.

 • Female Protagonist
 • Continue Jack's Story in 1920's (fish out of water story)

True Grit and Cowboys vs. Aliens.... Cowboys are quite popular nowadays...
