Im sorry but it was less of an action game i expected and more of a simulator, kind of like red dead rancher :P Way way way too much emphasis on actually forcing us to do farm work. The vistas were beautiful, etc but overall the game was pretty boring. The story didnt catch me too emotionally, and the ending was lame with pretty much one-2 missions u play as (Spoiler) his son... it would be epic if you played him through a whole journey 2/3 of the game through to (Spoiler) avenge his fathers death But i guess it made this game more realistic, life isint as action paced and dramatic as movies/games make it seem THEN WHY THE HELL do people hate gtaiv because of realism. Living in nyc, i think it did a rel perfect job in capturing the city, not playfully like SA, why do people keep going back to it. If you wanted to have fruity fun, play saints row. GTA wanted to go realistic and did a good job at it, and it was tons more fun then RDR. And i hope it doesent change. People who think RDR> GTA are obviously in love with the theme and story for some reason, but gameplay-wise gtaiv is much more superior.

I agree, GTA IV was better. RDR was still amazing though.

Yeh, a lot of it was dull. Especially the chores you're stuck doing for every character you come across. There were only a few missions that i thought were really cool, other than that, boring.

I strangely had more fun with RDR than GTAIV single player wise, due to the quests and side missions too.

I hated most side missions in GTAIV anyways, and it's quest wasn't the best either.

Something like Call of Duty would be more your taste based on what you seem to want.

I loved RDR, only thing is once I finished I didn't play it again besides getting a few achievments. There wasn't really anything to go back and do.

I thought it was excellent. A great change of pace to the constant shooting of every other game out there. There was a lot of blood to be had in RDR though.

It got boring real fast. Not sure why. Too much BS between missions.

And tapping A to run. WTF, that is just annoying as hell.

forcing us to do farm work? out of the 60 missions there were like what, 7 or 8 farm work missions? and that's not even including all the stranger and bounty side missions. there was so much to do in red dead redemption, i absolutely loved it. by far my game of the year and one of the best games i've played this gen period.

Should have made the nights a bit shorter, and i hated the ending. For once i would have loved a hollywood ending.

Usually open world sandbox type of games gets repetitive so that can get boring to some. I played RDR a couple of days every week and I enjoyed it and never got bored.

The ranching missions didn't take up much of the game. Only the beginning and end. That said, RDR was awesome, and better than GTA simply because it feels a lot more up to date. I loved, hell adored GTA4 when it came out. But its aged rather poorly.

I love Red Dead. I honestly never found it boring. Not even the horse rides to the next town. Right now its my GOTY.

Disclaimer: I haven't played GTA IV except for the first few mintues of it. So it may be better.

Neither had good multiplayer, but I loved the single player in RDR more so that wins, plus GTAIV is overrated anyways.

I love RDR 10x times more then GAT4. If anything I found GTA4 more boring. I didint connnect with the characters and the ending felt just bleh. There was no impact. Now RDR i loved everythign about it story and characters even though most were jerks. I will agree there are some boring parts like the very beggining when you work for that lady and the end where your working on the ranch, but thats about it. I also love the ending and the twist of how you keep playing after the game.

It was a good game and I had fun with it. Still, by the time I reached the end I was quite deflated and still have not even had the desire to try the multiplayer out. Things like herding cows, taming wild horses, the empty environment, long horse rides, awful glitches and samey missions just put a damper on the overall experience for me. Again, I did have fun with it and think it's a good game, just not nearly as great as it has been hyped up to be. Considering how hyped I was for it, I must say that it is the most disappointing game of the year so far for me.

I thought the game was fun, Assassins Creed was WAY more boring and repetitive. Of course some of the missions were boring, and it was kind of inconsistent throughout. One mission, you'll be tasked with stealing a gatling gun to kill buffalo rapists, the next will involve a short story important ride with a nagging woman.

omg it was soooo dull and boring. the weapon selection was crappy. the horseriding got tedious after a while. sure, it's nice to look at the environment, but still, the environment had like nothing on it. what makes the environment cools is the sunrise/sunset. but other than that, bleh. and to think you still have to keep an eye on your horse's stamina. and it's not like you can interact with the environment. they're just there for you to see: the rocks, plants, etc.

oh, and the hunting also got boring waaay fast. by the time you get to Blackwater, you can kill everything. wolves and coyotes are basically the same thing. and hunting is just like that. you shoot an animal, skin it, then sell the parts. there's no point in hunting for that rare $13 Cougar pelt when you can just get $13 by killing a couple of wolves.

it wouldve been better if the animal parts can be used for something else. like get 5 pelts of these + 13 feathers + some plants + gold to make an accesory or trade for a rare weapon of some sort. the 'looting' is just tied to the missions, and what you only get is EXP or a bonus costume that is of no use. seriously.

oh, and the random encounters as well. bleh. in my 20 or so hours ive ran into a guy who's always chased by wolves for a million times. psh. random encounters are just distractions. at first they were cool, but as you progress they get dull very fast.

oh, ad i hate it when you have to ride a horse and then shoot. i was under the impression that the horse would still run (and ROckstar told us that the horse will even avoid obstacles, etc.) but that is so untrue. i hate it when in the heat of battle, or when i am chasing a cougar or gazelle, by horse suddenly stops running while i'm aiming. that totally sucked big time. especially when chasing someone. you dont wanna go too fast but just the right speed to tail him, but then when you start to aim the guy starts to speed away. bah.

and dont get me started on the multiplayer and the bugs in the game. psh.

Yeah Idk what Rockstars deal is this gen. Its like they dazzle critics with amazing voice acting, story, likeable characters, intersting amazingly designed open world... and then they just forget to make the games fun, the gameplay in gta4 and Read Dead are sooo bland. Driving wasnt fun, you just slid all over the place, riding the horse was ok but then the whole time Im just looking at a boring desert. No interesting enviroments at all. The shooting mechanics where insanely dull as well. Just lock on fire fire fire, lock on fire fire fire, and thats it. Their games just do everything fantastically except the gameplay, they just dont take any risks and dont do anything really interesting or creative with it at all. The gameplay just feels like an afterthought

if you want sandbox gameplay play Just Cause 2

if you want sandbox with interesting themes/story play GTA4/RDR

which series you like better comes down to taste, personally i got sick of GTA, so RDR is a very welcome change

I thought RDR was outstanding, I enjoyed GTA4 but I think RDR got it beat on all fronts: - No dating mini-games!! I Hated that in GTA 4. - I wasn't a huge fan of the driving model in GTA4, the horses in RDR worked better for me. - There's been so few good western computer games, that made RDR refreshing to me. On the other hand there's been hundreds of gangster / Cops 'n Robbers games made. - I thought RDR's world was a lot more fun to travel and explore. There was more to do, more random opportunities, mini-games, surprises.

Is not bad and it's no boring by any means, i've been having a lot of fun with the missions and while i'm agree that tapping a button to run is incredible frustrating in fights, the game is really good, more than once i've enjoyed a good riding in the night haunting animals, helping people, or playing all night a good hand of Poker, etc, then again, i have more fun with Saint's Row 2.

It is not a lie, at one time I posted pics of my ps3 copy of the game, which I wont bother to do now. I didnt think the game looked good at all, I spent hrs with my tv settings thinking it must be my tv or something, inferior ps3 version has been discussed in depth at neogaf many times.

If the difference was a huge as your making it I'm sure it would have been rated lower than the 360 version.

Hint: It wasn't.

What? I'm sorry but i have the PS3 version and the game looks great, more than great, i'm not going to bother for some more details here and there, yes, the PS3 version is inferior, but nowhere near what people like to pretend.

What's with everyone hating the beginning of RDR, it's purpose was to immerse you in the world. I preferred GTA4 but, damn, did I appreciate the realism change from the wacky San Andreas. I get the impression the same folks who loved SA hated the 'boring' parts of RDR...What's wrong with trying to take gaming a little more seriously.
