Well this is disappointing news, but I'm wondering if I am past the point of being outraged by things like this.
Still, this is the first step on the way to what looks like corporate influence. I wonder if MS will do to Arkane what they did to 343i.
Still looking forward to the game, though. It is Arkane, after all.

I don't get it, the people online complaining about it obviously have internet. Feigned outrage. If there are people truly outraged and upset by this, those people will be suffering in silence, or using pigeons, I dunno, but not posting about it on social media that's for sure.
It's definitely a "it's the principle" type of thing, but internet is pretty unreliable in a lot of the US, and often absent in rural parts of the country. Can't count the number of times I've come home on Friday after a 60-hour work week hoping to play a game only to have my internet out for the weekend.
In either case, I feel having an always-online connection for a game that doesn't require online gameplay is the publisher creating an unnecessary inconvenience for the consumer.
Additionally, this is simply a form of DRM, and we've seen time and time again that anti-piracy measures like this do little to combat piracy, and a lot to inconvenience the consumer.
