360 sales just trippled across the board = Halo 3 is a system seller.

Everyone knows that you get a spike... Reggie means it won't sell consoles like that in 2, 3, 4 weeks and so on... you would have to be stupid to think there is no spike with major game releases.

Plus Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl are going to be huge for sales.
Erm, wrong, see the guy said everyone who wanted Halo already has a 360. This is obviously not the case henceforth - pwned.

You have to take in to account that Nintendo won't be able to meet the demand the consumers will be creating duringthe holiday season.

That's because the Wii was in short supply. And it'll be in limited supply this year too. If they could meet the demand, they will definitely sell the most.

Halo 2 sold consoles ALL YEAR. The Xbox actually outsold the PS2 in North America for the eight out of twelve months of 2005 (IIRC; the Xbox held a majority of the months, though I don't recall exactly how much). Tell me how selling an extra 150,000 systems for only one month qualifies Halo 3 as being a "system seller" when both of its predecessors each sold ten times as many systems?
It's too early to tell, simple as that. Personally, I would set the benchmark at 6 months, but on THIS forum, logic like that would assplode some heads.
And Nintendo made 1.5 million systems for the US market alone. Most consoles don't even launch with that much worldwide, let alone in a single region. Shut your trap unless you know what you're talking about.

It either sold systems or it didnta,nd seems it has very well sold systems. And Reggie was pretty well owned on this issue. But that does not mean Wii wont be kicking butt this Winter season.

No one considered Blue Dragon to be a significant system seller in Japan. Why? Because it only produced a short spurt of sales. Why should Halo 3 be considered any differently? Double standards?
I'm not saying Halo 3 WILL produce only a short spurt, but it's POSSIBLE. And if it does, then it should not be considered a system seller.
not true... the fad of wii sports is wearing thin and there isnt any compelling software to keep the momentum up indefinately.. if anything the constrained supply is making people interested as to why its in such short demand. If they had it would decrease demand.

I dare you...no, I DOUBLE dare you to find a system that's sold faster than the Wii that wasn't called the PlayStation 2.
People buy it because they want what it offers: something different. People are simply tired of the traditional games, and as ejaculatory as fanboys get over the visuals of COD4, average gamers don't give a rat's ass, because it's another sterile action game.
What would the movie industry be like if it released only Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay movies? Because that's EXACTLY the state of the video game industry now.
no plenty of people got tricked into buying and are now selling like myself... I waited in line a month before launch for a preorder... but its simply crap, unless your still playing on a POS tube television with no surround sound. I got it for zelda, I played zelda... I was dissapointed by paper mario, and now its time to go bye bye with halo 3, in full effect.
Any real gamers... that had a wii as his primary system would have bough MP3... but its sales were oblierated by bioshock on 360 and I wont even bring halo 3 into that comparison. Wii has the largest grandma user base of any platform confirmed. I dont look at it as a game system.. its like an interactive tivo or some gimmickTV entertainment ad on

there is not any logical argument behind halo 3 not being a system seller... almost every single person on my friends list is not playing a single game but halo 3... even during gears, they were talking about nothing but halo 3...at least 90% of all the 360 bought xbox 360 for halo 3, and everybody in my office at work is asking me about halo 3... its the biggest media release ever!Bdking57
That's the point naysayers are trying to get across to you: the 360 is a one-trick pony. If all the 360's earlier sales can be attributed to Halo 3, then yes, it's a system seller, but at the same time, you should not expect a massive burst of NEW sales as a result of Halo 3's success.

well considering my degree and my position in sales forecasting, thats simply not true.. there were customers that wanted it before sure... but those people spread the word on to others... what happens when the friends of those 7 million + halo players come over for a visit... they get hooked too. Word of mouth is the MOST powerful marketing tool.. and the ability of halo to capture all of this through features like replay mode is unprescedented.

"Plenty of people" were tricked? Shyeah, right. Only the gullible ones who didn't know what they were buying. In this way, average gamers are smarter than hardcore gamers, because they didn't buy the Wii as a heavy gaming platform. In fact, most people didn't even buy the PS2 has a heavy gaming platform. That's why it was so successful: it had a low barrier of entry and a low time commitment. The same can't be said for the new generation.

That's fine. You're a niche minority. It's obvious you would have different preferences. They're completely WRONG when it comes to judging the best direction for the industry for growth, but that's a different discussion.

PS2 had higher monthly sales in the US and Japan, consistently reaching 400k to 500k a month here in the US. It just had a staggered launch (March 2000 in Japan, Oct 2000 in US, Nov 2000 in Europe), which is why it appears to have had slower sales.
[QUOTE="ChrisMun"]Not really. The Wii is still cheaper. Hense, it will sell a lot better than the 360 this holiday season.deangallop
You have to take in to account that Nintendo won't be able to meet the demand the consumers will be creating duringthe holiday season.
Not being able to meet demand does not mean they can't sell the most. Say if Nintendo is able to get 2 million Wiis onto store shelves (while they still can't meet demand), and Sony/MS can only get 1.5 million out there but aren't able to sell them all, did not being able to meet demand keep Nintendo from being the top seller for the holiday?well considering my degree and my position in sales forecasting, thats simply not true.. there were customers that wanted it before sure... but those people spread the word on to others... what happens when the friends of those 7 million + halo players come over for a visit... they get hooked too. I doubt you're in sales forecasting. Or maybe you are, but just not in entertainment electronics. Those "friends of those 7 million + halo players" had PLENTY of time to see the Halo franchise for itself with Halo 1 and Halo 2, but those didn't increase Halo's fanbase (Halo 2 grew by only a million sales more than Halo 1) because they weren't willing to fork over the dough for a system just for one game. And the Halo 3 releases with an even smaller existing userbase than what Halo 2 had.

Good point. The Shadowrun community, although it was never big to begin with, totally died when H3 was released. This game is huge and sells systems. I don't think that it will move as many systems as H1 or H2 but that's due to the fact that both of those games were released in late November, which as we all know is right smack dab in the middle of the holiday season.
