Means nothing. Miyamoto has stated he'd love to see more Star Fox, and where has that franchise been?
Doubt they will make it. Nintendo only likes cheap games that will make them money.
Everyone: So nintendo, when is Metroid coming? The other games sold like a million copies each!
Nintendo: We would love to make it, but a million copies isn't enough when all our other game series sell 5 million+. Metroid will have to wait after were done 3 more marios, animal crossing, smash, kart, Zelda wii, wii U sports, and about another dozen wii U themed games.
Everyone: Argh, maybe next gen.... Starfox?
Nintendo: LOL, not even close to million seller. Will never make it.
Nintendo! Make a new first person Metroid game that kicks as much ass this year as Prime did in 2002, and you've got a WiiU sale from this guy.

I actually think there's a good chance we'll see another Metroid, but never on a console. Hopefully on the 3DS, and hopefully next year.
Despite the massive 3DS support, I doubt it. When Nintendo puts a franchise on hold, BOY do they do it.

Despite the fact that the last Metroid DIDN'T EVEN BREAK A MILLION?

Yea, but Metroid's not been on hold for that long (Other M came out only a little over three years ago).
Though, Nintendo being Nintendo, I don't expect much of anything. But I don't think they'll let it die completely. Tbh, I'd be perfectly happy with a HD remake of Super. Having that game portable would justify buying a 3DS by itself.
Hopefully soon everyone will realize that Nintendo wont do what the fans want, Nintendo does what ever they want. Millions of people want info on Zelda or X, or Smash, Nintendo has the options to blow people away when opportunities arise but ALWAYS choose to disappoint. Their games are amazing, but they have no clue how to market them.

That's not Metroid. That's Halo in Metroid clothing.
Metroid is about speed and agility. Not walking around like a bi-pedal tank.
Despite the fact that the last Metroid DIDN'T EVEN BREAK A MILLION?
Mario Kart Wii sold more than the entire Metroid franchise since 1986.
Nintendo needs to put the IP up on Kickstarter and let us fund the game we want.

A funny sentiment coming from someone who praises Other M, which had elements lifted straight off of Prime (1st person aiming).
I agree that Metroid is about speed and agility, but it's also about lone exploration. Not a soap opera, character-driven drama. Prime stuck closer to the values of what makes Metroid Metroid than Other M did.

Hush, I'm trolling.
Majora's Mask for the Wii U or 3DS would really be huge if it happened or maybe a Mario Galaxy 3 would help sales
Reggie opened his mouth and started to say "of course" when questioned on whether we'd see another Metroid soon, he then stopped himself and said what he said.
Not sure that means anything, knowing how unprepared he looked.
Reggie can go **** himself.
@nintendoboy16... I'm tired of you repeating this over and over, unsubstantiated, in every single thread. Where's the proof that Metroid is on hold, exactly?
How about a remake like Wind Waker?
How about not? Let's see a new game from them, let's see those new ideas flowing.
Nintendo has the world's best development talent with them, it is time they utilized it for something, they've been complacent and resting on their laurels for far too long.
(Games like A Link Between Worlds and 3D World show just how great a Nintendo game can be... make more like that. Diversify yourselves. I'm not even asking for a new IP, but ****, at least use the full extent of your own catalog!)
@charizard1605: they may not have outright said it but metroid certainly isn't on the top of their to do list.
Theres the fan backlash from the Other M, nintendo skipping Metroids anniversary and going straight to Kirby, and the radio silence for the past 3 years.
Put two and two together and it could very well mean it's on hiatus just like it was on the n64.

Reggie and Miyamoto have hinted at new Metroid announcements plenty of times.
Skipping anniversary announcements? Anniversary announcements are skipped all the time. Mario Kart never got one. Super Smash Bros never got one. Donkey Kong never got one. Are those franchises on hiatus too?
Fan backlash from Other M? You mean, a Nintendo game with a passionate fanbase got immense fan backlash? OH NO

When the hell do people have to announce a hiatus? You realize those can be quiet right (I don't recall ever finding any old article on them saying they're putting Kid Icarus on hold until Uprising, heck, they haven't even bringing up Waverace after Blue Storm all that much)? I just feel that's seems to be the case as Reggie doing this with Metroid is no different than Shigeru Miyamoto doing this with Star Fox.
It's in their PR's behavior, Char and I'm not getting my hopes up that any of these franchises are as active as you think. I thought since you of all people, especially one who's critical of Nintendo's actions would know this. Metroid was fluently released between 2002 and 2010 and the fact that not even a Wii U, or hell, a portable game is officially announced after 2010 sounds worrysome.
Reggie loves to troll is more like it. He was wearing a Samus pin! Especially when Geoff asked the guy from Retro how many studies they had, that was great that he couldn't even mention the answer.
Nintendo should make a new Metroid game in first-person or the classic Super Metroid SNES Style :( it is mind boggling to me they haven't made it yet
Me too. Hopefully not another dull Metroid Prime game.
At least I don't think it could get worse than Other M.
I wish Sony had Metroid series
it would have been great and not so neglected
If it would be anything like Killzone I'd want to kill myself.
Make it happen, Nintendo. I'd love a Metroid Prime 4. Or at the very least, an HD version of Metroid Prime Trilogy (considering how rare it is) alongside a new game.
Metroid might just save the WiiU
No chance. Aside from the original Metroid and Metroid Prime, none of the games in the series have even broke the 2 million mark. It's sad because the series is so good, but clearly it isn't for everyone. Metroid has as much a chance of saving the Wii U as Pikmin did.
Metroid might just save the WiiU
A game franchise that, over the past 27 years has sold less combined software units than Mario Kart Wii, is going to save the Wii U? You're funny.
How about not? Let's see a new game from them, let's see those new ideas flowing.

I'm impressed Char, would've never thought you'd be saying such a thing.
But I agree. Nintendo certainly does feel like they've become lazy. There's no feeling of ambition or drive. Just a "meh", going through the motions attitude, and I've never been so bored of them as I am today. And as you said, they are the best developers when they put their minds to it, which makes it all the most frustrating.
Iwata needs to leave. GODDAMNIT. Get that fool out of there quick. He's a passive, conservative, non-competitive loser. Nice guy I'm sure, but NOT fit to run a business.
