Word on the street, or rather on job listingsite Gamasutra, is that Remedy's hiring for a new Xbox 360 title.

According to the listing, the Finland-based studio is currently looking to hire a Lead Level Designer to join its "AAA console team" on a new "Xbox 360" title. The listing suggests that the game will have a heavy focus on "compelling narrative and intense action" and that applicants should be well-versed in "drama and storytelling".

While it's hardly confirmation, the bet would be on a sequel to 2010's Alan Wake, which was also an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Though the game saw lacklustre sales during its first two weeks, selling only 145,000 units according to NPD Group, one of the game's writers Mikko Rautalahti previously stated that the story is "bigger than one game" and that the sequel (if made) would be both "weird and wonderful".

The psychological thriller sees players step into the shoes of author Alan Wake, as he desperately try's to save his wife from the mysterious darkness that's engulfing the small town of Bright Falls, where the couple are vacationing. The game combines intense action, intuitive gameplay and compelling storytelling, with the player's primary weapon being light.

In addition to the above, the April issue of OXM's (Official Xbox Magazine) rumor section is carrying the following intriguingstatement in quotation marks:

"Yes or no for Alan Wake 2? We shook The Ball and it said, "It looks promising".

Last month at GDC Remedy's Markus Maki stated that while Alan Wake's exclusivity to Microsoft's platform was a "business risk" it was also one that helped the developer stay focused.

SOURCE

Sweet! I loved the original and was ecstatic to hear when it broke the million mark. Shame that it was the most pirated game of 2010, but hey, that's good publicity in the long run! I'll be highly looking forward to the sequel, which I have no doubts will be capable of hitting AAA status.

What do you guys think about the series?

Would be awesome if they did. AW was a fantastic game. But I hope it comes to PC too...since I sold my 360. If not, oh well...

God I hope its true. And please, don't release the game on the same day as one of the best games to be released that year. *cough* Red Dead *cough*

They aren't referring to our system wars meta game, its a business term. ;)

They want developers who are ready to work on a AAA game, or have AAA quality game designing experience -- thats at least how Bungie hires.

System war's definition of "AAA" is different than what it is for actual developers and publishers. For what they talk about here it is just a high budget game aiming for high quality.

I hope so. Alan Wake was my favorite title of 2010 (i have about 50 hrs and still playing it). I just hope this time around there is a PC version as well. It doesn't make sense that MS would make Remedy ditch their fanbase. (then again MS has made that stupid move before with the first title)

Man I hope it's AW2.

If so I hope they get someone other than MSGS to handle the publishing this time. Boy MS screwed the pooch with AW's release.

Yea, although besides enjoying the game I also didn't buy too many titles last year so that's another reason I clocked in so many hours in it.

Been meaning to get Alan Wake but never get around to it. The game looked good so a sequel to a good game is never a bad idea.

Bought Alan Wake for 20 bucks on boxing day. Still haven't had the chance to finish it, but the few chapters I played were fun.

Why would it be Alan Wake 2? :? Remedy is hiring for a new AAA 360 game, Alan Wake received neither the sales nor the scores to be considered AAA.

Definately would love a sequel, and hopefully they can pump up the graphics a bit, as well as the physics... I realize their lighting engine ate up a lot of their cycle times but they could totally optimize better!

I loved Alan Wake. I originally was looking forward to playing it on my PC, but after that version was cancelled I had to buy it for my 360. I still hope that they will release a director's cut of Alan Wake for the PC. I would welcome a sequel, whether it be for the 360 or PC, but I would much prefer to play it on the PC.

I agree wholeheartedly. Only reason I wouldn't consider it AAA is because of its longevity. I got a few playthroughs out of it, and while they were damn fun, I wish is was a bit longer. Definitely one of the better story-related experiences this gen no doubt though.

I really enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to the sequel, it had one of the most intuitive combat mechanichs and controls ever which is why I liked it so much.

But if there's one thing I'd like, is to see it and the sequel on PC, they are meant to be PC games. For such an atmospheric game the lack of vsync and the low resolution really hurt the game on the 360. Being able to play it on the PC at higher resolutions and with better textures would make it 1000 times better. I thought it had really good graphics so I can only imagine how it would look like on the PC.

I hope M$ gives them the royal treatment the deserve...this time. Big budget and room to work without excessive pressures! Alan Wake did sell over 1,000,000 copies, but deserved 3x that many. M$ TRULY needs quality devs and games, so this is a great deal for them. I hope it's an all out effort this time. In HD of course. Imo, they should just buy Remedy!

I hope so. I LOVED Alan Wake, too bad not many other 360 gamers wanted it. Not sure what kind of profit they turned after how long the game was in develpment. I'd go nuts if somehow a PC version was released.

Well obviously the sequel is going to be a AAA title? Just because the original didn't have an enormous budget (I'm actually not sure if it did, correct me if wrong - in which case you are, too), doesn't mean the sequel can't. In fact, evidently its going to as evidenced by the job posting. That is, if this game is indeed Alan Wake 2, though it seems to be pretty likely.

I'm guessing it just means that the game they are making will have high production values, so I don't know why that leaves out a sequel to Alan Wake.

It's a developer term. You wouldn't ear a dev say they're working on an "A" or "AA" title would you? (that's like saying, "Hey we're working on a new title but we're not going to put all our effort into it".
