Remind me why Mass Effect gets hype?

Character Customization
"Epic Story" No one knows why the story is Epic, it just is.

Its ocnfusing that people here are saying that it has GOTY potential, based on what? KOTOR? A STAR-Wars Franchise. None of you have played it, there is no demo. None of the reviewers have played a demo or a more recent build of the game & showed videos of it. This is an amazing case of basing all of these claims on absolutely nothing. No one knows what the first level is, no one knows that Bioware removed the main combat battle plan system.(where you place characters to where you need them.)

All that doesn't equal GOTY. If anything the claims are based on KOTOR & Screenshots.

I think the game will be fine, but no newsscreensgameplay this late in the game is a clear sign of the game not being ready, underwhelming or just bad.

The character customization, initial contacts and conversations and subsequent combat and objectives are all known about. You meet a couple of your crew, go talk to the Captain, you recieve a transmission of some guys getting owned while trying to secure a "beacon" that they believe is of great significance for enhancing human technology, but something has gone horribly wrong, you go down to sort things out, you meet some new people on the way like Ashley Williams, fight some robot people, some zombie guys, punch a crazy doctor in the face. The sort of awesomeness people can expect.

Assassin's Creed has had hardly any coverage since it's shoddy E3 demo, Uncharted... The Gears of War lookalike video on On the Spot is all we've seen in recent months, and Rachet has had about the same coverage as ME.

Mark my words Uncharted and Ratchet WILL not be GOTY. THOSE GAMES ARE GREAT IN YOUR OPINION! When will the world learn that your opinion does not mean it's right or the word of god. to me Uncharted is a crappy Tomb Raider rip off for guys who don't want to play as a girl. Ratchet and Clank will be great but those games have NEVER been GOTY and this one will follow suit. I think it's a slap in the face to compare those games to Mass Effect as well since ummmmmmm THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

You know what's funny. Some of your points have some validity to them in regards that a lot of people are hyping a game that thank god hasn't shown all of its potential yet . But the real kicker is that even without all of the revealed information and everyone hyping it only on the promise that Bioware delivers great games, it's probably going to be better than all of the PS3 games released this holiday and in turn better than any PS3 game to date.

No. Its the same reason its stupid to Hype KILLZONE2. Yet everyone acts like they have played it first hand. "MASS EFFECTS STORY IS EPIC." As if reviewers had the entire game laid in front of them beat its alleged 40hour plus gamelength.. It didn't happen. Things are deemed epic AFTER the fact & because of the amount of work put into it. Mass Effect has a game budget of 10 million. That isn't epic, nor are the B list actors called in for the voice overs.

We know loads more about the story than we do about most games, there's a freakin' book out of it, and there's plenty of indepth synopsis' and missions and parts of the game shown... Loooooads of trailers, more than for Uncharted, Assassins Creed and R+C put together...
