Poll Resident Evil 4 vs Silent hill 2. Which Remake is better of 2? (35 votes)

Resident Evil 4 83%
Silent hill 2 17%

Both are excellent games having finish Silent hill 2 very satisfying but still gonna give it to RE4-R.

SH2 is definitely better Survival horror title and better Atmosphere but RE4 shine on near perfect gameplay, combat and perfect blend of Action and horror. RE4 is better action game SH2 is better horror.

so friends, lets vote and discuss which is better?

Well I’ve only played Resident Evil 4 Remake but that game was fantastic. Have watched some Silent Hill 2 Remake and have played the original game. Just by going off of what I know I’m pretty sure that RE4R would be my preferred game out of the two.

Can't believe you really want to make this thread Ghost. Why? Anyway, I'll just point out what you like better here. If you want more action buy Resident Evil 4 Remake. If you want more survivor horror immersion , buy Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Now, I'll go into deep details between the 2 as I have played both remakes: (well, still playing SH2 Remake as we speak)

Time to break it down:

RE4 Remake is more action, still keeping the horror-ish atmosphere but here, you play as Leon who's been already well trained, so you'll be well equipped to defend yourself from enemies. Story is good but the gameplay here shines the most IMO. It's replay value will keep you coming back if you truly enjoy the gameplay elements. Also, from the technical standpoint, not sure what your gaming PC build is but, RE4 Remake is well better optimized and can be improved by using mods if you want to. I however like playing the vanilla version.

SH2 Remake is pure story bomb/survivor horror gameplay. It has mainly similarities with RE2 Remake rather than RE4 Remake. It is all about narrative, you can always set different difficulty. Personally, even on hard difficulty seems to be a bit easy to my taste but that's just my take here. But anyway, the gameplay is different, it's melee to ranged but if you're turning off that default aiming assist setting as I do, you'll find it a bit 'choppy' as shooting isn't that satisfying, though it truly feels like the actual survival-horror in panic shooting mode. The Remake is amazing and well designed game if you ask me.

Conclusion: Both games are great, there's no doubt about that, but I would honestly avoid comparing the 2 Remakes. Even though both are survivor-horror genre games, they really focus on different ways to get the gamer immersive. So in the end, it's just all about preference. Never use the word "Masterpiece" as every game has its flaws in the end.

Voted: Both Remakes are great! There is NO which Remake is better. Even Dead Space Remake in its own right stands with the best of the best survivor-horror, that game is part of my list.

(But NOT you Callisto Protocol, you had your chance, so get the hell outta here!)

If you mean who did their Remake better, I would go with Bloober. They captured the original game while improving on certain aspects like the combat and shooting. But if you mean what is a better game, it really is apples to oranges. RE 2 or Dead Space would be a better comparison to Silent Hill 2. Heck, Evil Within is a better comparison lol.

I feel like Silent Hill 2 is the better experience but RE4 is the better game. It just has better gameplay.

I prefer the original RE4 though.

heavily improved gameplay from original. third person shooter that is neither movie game nor cover based shooter. incredible atmosphere and shooting.

this and Doom Eternal are so far best games of decade. STALKER 2 may join next month.

Both are good but I feel like RE4 will have more mainstream appeal and probably better technical execution. VR support easily.puts it over the top for me.

Resident Evil 4 was already a masterpiece and already had the behind the shoulders view.

Silent Hill 2 was a PlayStation 2 game and had an inferior camera standpoint, so SH2 is the better remake.

In either case the original game was way better.

Best horror game remake is Resident Evil 1 on the gamecube.

i didn't and thought the beginning of the remake was bad.

pretty much amounted to running around a courtyard, interminably, repeatedly jumping in and out of buildings, climbing ladders being chased by an angry mob of pitch fork wielding zombies. could've played out against the theme tune of benny hill.

eventually the church bell rings and they all fck off. remember wondering how this game is so revered. it wasn't until a few hours in that i started to see its quality and in the end enjoyed it.

@mrbojangles25: i'd recommend persevering with it. it does get a lot better

is Silent Hill a slow game to get into? Like finding clues and solving puzzles or straight shooter? Yet to play Silent Hill games but RE 4 original hands down 10/10, remake was okay.

@saint-george: He can't play the original Silent Hill 2 or any games with cinematic (fixed) cameras because his keyboard only lets him move in eight directions without rotational camera control and he's too good for a controller. Pity that PC players never demanded more (in terms of desk peripherals) from developers and hardware manufacturers.

Not sure what his problem with the original RE4 is, other than stop-and-shoot, which makes sense there.

Never tried RE4R or the original, not sure what I’m missing? But I have played SH2 back years earlier and was impressed by it. I feel maybe SH2R might have an edge but not certain?

Though I suppose the mouse could have been used to move the character around the cinematic camera angles, like in isometric computer games.

PC used to have amazing third person controls and shooting. ala Max Payne 1, Mafia 1.

RE4 original don't badly. stop and shoot, plus tank controls.

its all fixed in Remake. only reason people prefer original because nostalgia. Remake is harder, no more QTEs, no more tank controls, much better combat, even story improvement.

@ghosts4ever: Problem with Max Payne action is that all it takes is a headshot. That's why the action peaked with the armored police in the Brazilian police station. Max Payne's enemies can't even shootdodge or dive behind cover. Max can't crouch, roll or lie down/crawl.

RE4 has much more going for it, for the material. More variety in enemies. Watch some Romero zombie movies. The survivors aren't running and gunning much, they're mostly still for shots, because they need to aim and it's not over the top stylish action.

yes.

honestly i don't think the game starts that well. it's story driven, given the initial lack of action and the slow introduction of puzzles. but the story doesn't really make an awful lot of sense, so far anyway. neither do the puzzles. they seem a bit random. and the protagonist doesn't respond in a way i would expect with what's happening. there's a bit of a disconnect between all the elements going on at the minute.

because of that it's not really got its hooks into me yet, but i am only two hours in, so i will be persevering. hopefully it eventually lives up to the hype that some around here have been lavishing on it because they've been laying it on pretty thick

Because its not action game. its survival horror.

its atmospheric, immersive and terrifying. starting is slow once reach hospital then prison level which is legit scary.

we have played action horror since 2 decades (Dead space, RE games, Alan wake, etc). for a while we finally get survival horror that is not just walking sim.

Resident Evil 4 is a better action game much like the original Resident Evil 4. It was the game which took the series away from horror and leaned the series to a more action series as seen in RE5 and RE6.

Silent Hill 2 is the better horror game. The atmosphere and movement in Silent Hill 2 lead to a much more tension filled experience.

Just my opinion of course, which I now see is heavily in the minority.

hope so. i've not done much else other than walk so far.

anyway i'll stfu now. i've only played 2 hours or so. too early to have an opinion worth listening to. think it's cos i've just come off the back of two long action games and i'm having a bit of difficulty adjusting to the pace change

RE4 will appeal more to the modern audience due to how accessible and arcadey it feels.

SH2 is a better game for me cos it's just so atmospheric and immersive.

Came here to say exactly this pretty much.

I dont think I even had any true jump scare moments in RE4Remake, but plenty of tension in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

I enjoyed both the same, SH2R was more memorable due to the tension. RE4 is more action horror, like if JJ Abrahams made a horror game
