Resident Evil 5 Producer Masachika Kawata has questioned the idea that developing a PlayStation 3 version of a multiplatform game is significantly harder than developing one for Xbox 360.

"I can't really say that one platform is proving more problematic than the other," he told Kikizo in an interview.

Kawata subsequently qualified his comment, acknowledging that similarities between the Xbox 360 hardware and the PC, Resident Evil 5's lead development platform, made work on the former system comparatively straightforward. "This game is being developed in Capcom internally on PC hardware. When it comes to porting directly from PC-based hardware, the console that's easier to work with is, naturally, the 360."

But he insisted that PS3 was far from the programming nightmare some commentators have **** it. "The PS3 is often said to be more difficult. As someone developing for it, though... I haven't found it to be too tough."

This may, however, have more to do with the flexibility of Resident Evil 5's engine than the nature of the platform. "With our proprietary engine, the MT Framework - it's an engine we specifically made for development on next-gen consoles - one of its particular strengths is ease of porting to different platforms."

Resident Evil 5 is down for release on 5th March 2009 in Japan, and 13th March 2009 in North America and Europe

If Capcom can do it why can't all these American developers! Capcom is problaby the most consistant third party developer out of Japan ever since the NES days. They make some awesome games. Can't wait for Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4!

If capcom can do it why can't others? Did you not here him state the flexitbility of the game engine they use? That's probably the key reason. Maybe they should liscene it out. But then again look at lost planet for PS3.

I've always said the PS3 isn't tough to program for, just has bottlenecks that make it hard to make games look as good as the 360 with multiplats.

Fact:

This kind of confirms things. RE5 looks worse on the PS3, but the devs say it wasn't hard. Well of course it isn't hard, just have to drop the visual quality to get it running at a decent framerate.'

games got a solid 2 months till it's gold, we havn't seen an updated ps3 version, It'll look different by a hair the time it release, though it wont matter to me because im getting it for both systems

Didint Kotaku say the PS3 version they played was different then the most recent PS3 code and now it looks the same(points at gametrailers PS3/360 comeperison video) Also IGN playstation editor jeff haynes has said they look the same. Aside from PS3 having some frame rate issues here and there.

IGN stated that the PS3 version looked better then the 360 version,but only in certain spots. IN the end the game looked the same.

At the end of the Kotaku article, it said specifically that the PS3 demo version was made from older code. It was pretty hard to miss that detail, so you obviously omitted it. How does it feel to lie?

ooooo. older code. how does that make me a liar? where in my statement did i say anything about the code? lmao. classic stuff. lets just wait n see eh? kotaku weren't the only ones, and hell, the PS3 has been inferior in about 90% of multiplats so far, so i don't think anything will change in the time before release. but hey, you might be one of those people that think the last 2 months of dev can 'seriously improve' a game :P

terribly... this has been proven :) you can't emulate those 'memory ram' (holy redundant batman, lmao) when the ram is incredibly fast compared to the HDD / access / read times :P fact.

Capcom are awesome devs. This isn't a surprise for them to say it. Ubisoft said the same thing as well. After watching the HD comparison on GT, I didn't see any noticeable difference. Now once people start doing direct-feed screen comparisons, then maybe...but as for now its pretty much the same.

The Framework engine is the truth! Best multiplat engine in the industry IMO. Also, LP was a shoddy port so :?.

Lol, naw. The 360 is easier to develop for and has less bottleneck issues. Devs are more familiar with PC based architecture.

Okay mr. lemming, if the ps3 is soooooo much less powerfl then the 360 explain why the ps3 exclusives ALL look and play better then 360 exclusives. ps3 has the graphics kings of past(uncharted) present(MGS4) and future(killzone 2). also better andf smoother gameplay online. it may be lacking a couple features but the FACT remains that psn is much more stable and reliable then XBL.

the reasont the ps3 is getting all the gimped ports is exactly that. THEY'RE PORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!No matter what a port will look worse then a game built around the hardware. and almost all devs are using the xbox as they're lead console. though some are switching now.

Thats like your opinion,and the current graphics king is CRYSIS and the prince is Gears 2 if we go by console standards.

Okay mr. lemming, if the ps3 is soooooo much less powerfl then the 360 explain why the ps3 exclusives ALL look and play better then 360 exclusives. ps3 has the graphics kings of past(uncharted) present(MGS4) and future(killzone 2). also better andf smoother gameplay online. it may be lacking a couple features but the FACT remains that psn is much more stable and reliable then XBL.

the reasont the ps3 is getting all the gimped ports is exactly that. THEY'RE PORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!No matter what a port will look worse then a game built around the hardware. and almost all devs are using the xbox as they're lead console. though some are switching now.

Lets not forget that ALOT of recent multiplats are looking identicle even though the ps3 is getting the inferior version(port). Just goes to show how much more powerful the ps3 is then the 360.

Thats like your opinion,and the current graphics king is CRYSIS and the prince is Gears 2 if we go by console standards.

Everyone should know that the PC will always be "graphics king". But in the pissing match between PS3 and 360, PS3 wins. Take note that the PS3 is only in its 2nd year. KZ2 looks better than anything we've seen on consoles (RE5 comes very close).

Which is why nobody should ever mention the word graphics king for a console game. Like console exclusives, console graphics king is an oxymoron. Console exclusives don't exist and a console game cannot have the best graphics therefor console graphics king shouldn't exist.

It boggles the mind how people argue console graphics king is accepted while console exclusive isn't. You always count every platform you don't ever exclude a platform.

Yes. This is SW though and there is a dick swinging competition. A mini battle between PS3 and 360, everyone knows this. A console can be acknowledged for having better graphics than another console.

I agree with "another castle". Good way to put it :lol:.

No matter how we look at it. The majority will always want to debate between consoles because their standards are mostly identical and at a stand-still. PC evolves at a much faster rate and is looked at differently because of varying factors (which we're aware of).

You can discount it for yourself, but the discussion will continue...

I've always said the PS3 isn't tough to program for, just has bottlenecks that make it hard to make games look as good as the 360 with multiplats.

Kotaku can't be trusted, See gametrailers comparison of the game, it looks indentical, with the PS3 version better due to the fact that Bullet holes are left when shooting skulls (see the comparison) the 360 version leaves no bullet impressions. Fact! PS3 has a different architecture to that of a typical PC one...so their is a learning curve. Due to this, if the PS3 isn't the lead plats for Multiplats, it suffers. Depending on the skills of the developers and how much more money and time can be put into the PS3. Fact! RE5 looks the same as the 360 version. Lems, srsly..get informed.

You realize that On some games the decal isn't always left right? I.E GTA4 Sometimes you shoot a car and it til leave a bullet decal and sometimes it wont. Not to metion that tha's a very weird way to give a console an edge. The simple fact is that the PS3 has yet to show any advantage in mutiplats and besides an exclusive that's been in develpment forever and with tons of cash thrown it's way.
