Resident Evil 5 to features 16 player multiplayer mode? (Update)

Have I been living under a rock where this is concerned b/c this is the first time I remember hearing anything like this ?

Could this feature be for 360 only ?

The Story.

The eagle-eyed folks at D-padpicked up on a curious little bit found on the back of the official UK box art for the Xbox 360 version of Resident Evil 5: "System link 2-16."

Yup. Definitely says that. If our eyes don't deceive us and this official render of the box art is to be believed, Resident Evil 5will indeed contain some sort of offline multiplayer mode for up to 16 players. The box shot makes mention of online multiplayer for two players only.

As ridiculous as this sounds, this is not the first time we've caught wind of this. We've heard whispering late last year that Capcom's survival horror game would contain some sort of competitive multiplayer game beyond the already announced cooperative mode. The details of this weren't revealed to us.

With Resident Evil 5coming out March 13, Capcom doesn't have much longer to spill the beans on this if this is the case. We'll of course be making the appropriate calls today, and will report back with the full "no comment" response after we do.

[Update: VG247claims to have heard back from their Capcom contact who confirmed this, saying the "box art isn't lying," but would provide no more information. We've yet to hear back from Capcon on our end (stupid European sites with their stupid European contacts that are awake when ours are not), but we'll keep you up to date if we hear anything else.]

[Update 2: Capcom US PR got back to us with a "no comment," as expected. This should be considered a rumor for the time being, but I'd suggest you start planning your Resident Evil 5 LAN parties now.]

Someone never had a Halo: Combat Evolved LAN party!

I remember once we rented out the conference room at the college and borrowed 20 TVs and had everyone bring their gaming systems for a huge LAN party. Was a blast and we ended up raising 700$ for charity to boot.

Ok, now I seriously want to hear people claim "Bu--bu--but Resident Evil 5 is still survival horror!!!! :cry: " Resident Evil 5 is a pure action game through and through. Take gears, cut off a few IQ points from the bad guys, slim down Marcus a tad bit, throw in some black guys and you got RE5.II_Seraphim_II
