Resistance 2: 720p, 30fps, No load times confirmed!

Speaking with Eurogamer, Insomniac's Ted Price has revealed some of the finer, technical details for their upcoming shooter, Resistance 2. First, they're aiming to have it running natively in 720p, so vertical pixel counters, take some time off. Second, it'll run at 30fps. Third, Price says "you shouldn't notice any loading screens in R2", thanks to advances the company have made in terms of streaming the game's assets. You can be a fan of Resistance, you can not be a fan, either way you have to admit: Insomniac run a tight technical ship.

720p and 30 fps are great (assuming it's native 720p and not upscaled). No load times make it even more awesome, especially since they were medium-long in the first game and were kind of annoying in Ratchet and Clank. I'm expecting a long install, though.

Still, you must know... they say no load times, you'll just be fooled to thinking that. They'll be hidden around or have secrets like how Nintendo does for practically all their games from Brawl to Metroid and Mario Galaxy and so forth.

Sorry, it's sleeping now, I'll leave a memo at its desk.

As long as it plays with no slowdown as the original Resistance did i have no problem with 30FPS. And, well, they're really upping the visuals this time around as well as incorporating 60 players online. Either way, the game is a must buy for me.

As for the installs. Frankly, i don't get the whining behind them. You can just delete the install whenever you want and then reinstall. Most installs take just 5 minutes to install (unless you're talking about DMC4 which i have no idea why it takes 20 minutes) and they're easily uninstallable (just by going to the HDD install and deleting it) and when you put it back in it just reinstalls in 5 minutes for most titles. It's not a big deal to me anyway. I suppose if you don't know how to delete someone on the PS3 Home it might be a problem. Pretty crazy that Uncharted had zero load times and looked phenomenal as well (other than the beg. load time).

Anyway, This is a huge title. Great find.

It's so easy to tell when people don't have a Ps3 or Uncharted.

I had hoped CoD4 would have started a standard to get console games out of the 30FPS mud. I mean I remember when Halo 3 came out. I made the foolish mistake of playing it right after Metroid Prime 3. Going from 60FPS to 30FPS lol. I still liked Halo 3 though. But yeah we are at the point where 30FPS for FPS should be a thing of the past. But I see the game is at 720P. So I'm assuming for the game to run at 720P it would have to be lowered to 30FPS. But then again I'd bet money that the game will run less then 720P. I mean afterall this is the HD era of consoles lol.

Anyways I'm excited for this game. Its seems to be shaping up well.

Well, let me rephrase. Either a large install......or duplicating the data on the disk many times in order to counteract the slow read speed of the bluray drive. :shock:

Have you seen the gameplay video or the interview? The video is obviously WAY smoother than Gears 1 and Cliff has already confirmed it runs higher than 30 FPS.

Perhaps, it's not all "Blu Ray Magic" though. Blu Ray Drives read at 9MB per second. The 360s DVD drive reads at 16 MB per second. Thats why multiplat games many times have an install, it can't keep up with the 360. Resistance used what they call, "padding" to achieve lesser load times. There is no way that there will be no padding and no install for R2.
