Resistance 2 beta = Awesome

Well I just got done playing about 2 hours of the Resistance 2 beta and I have to say this game is an absolute blast to play online. I pretty much just did co-op for the two hours, different scenarios scattered across one level but even then it was awesome to have 5 or 6 teammates there with you, all of you dependant on one another. The regular solidiers depend on medics for health and special ops for ammo, special ops is excellent at taking out enemies from a distance, and medics not only heal you but fight against enemies. What I thought was cool was in some sitatuions two teammates have to push a button at the same time in order to open up certain doors, this means that if you don't work as a team you're going to get no where. However, there are other times where acting alone can help the team out. For example, I had 4 teammates distracting about 20-30 enemies and while the enemies were behind cover I flanked them, threw a few grenades on their heads and ta da no more enemies to deal with. I think in what was roughly a 20 minute match (before we all died) I had racked up about 147 kills and encountered two pretty fun boss fights.

I also liked how the enemies weren't just pushovers but were quick, challenging and smart. Sometimes they'd start running after you and other times they'd camp behind huge turrets and make you go after them. The game does an excellent job of shaking things up and just constantly throwing enemies at you over and over and then shaking things up with a big boss fight or two. Visually the game is pretty impressive, not something that will rival Gears of War 2 or Killzone 2 but the water looks great, character models are well defined, and did I mention that the guns in this game rock? I mean you have a pistol that shoots explosive sticky rounds, a gatling gun that comes complete with a shield so you can mow down enemies with glee, and a gun that fires frickin saw blades at people! GAH! Love it.

I usually don't like hyping games on here because of the consequences that can ensue but I think that this game might be flying under the radar in terms of how popular it might become. After playing the beta there's not a doubt in my mind about whether or not to get this game. The online mode easily rivals COD4 and in my opinion I think I enjoyed this quite a bit more. So there you go, I think this game should easily get an 8.0 and depending on the reviewer I think IGN gives it a 9.0-9.5 and GS an 8.5-9.0. Of course this is just going off the online portion...not sure if the single player campaign will be a large factor in the final score or not. Thoughts?

You can get it by preordering that game through Gamestop.

At this point though it probably isn't worth it. I think the beta is only on for another couple of weeks, and when you get the beta that way it takes Gamestop 48 business hours (So weekends don't count) to email you the "key" code, then you have to take that code and go to the Resistance 2 site and plug it in, and after that it takes a few days for those people to send you the actual beta stuff.

I was able to get in the Beta through buying Qore episode 3, dunno if buying that episode will work now or not. It is 2.2GB so it'll take awhile to download (about 45 minutes) but it's definitely worth it.

After playing the beta im hyping R2 AAAE on GS. The 8 player co-op was fun and amazing and the 30 on 30 battles are epic. AAAE on GS 9.Gamersince81

I agree, after playing the game I think we should get atleast a 9.0 but it's hit or miss on GS.

1. Reserve the game's Collector's Edition (I believe it's only the CE or could be just reserve the game) or buy this MOnth's QORE to get a beta code.

2. Register at the resistance website.( I'll try and fine the link) and enter your PSN info to have a chance to obtain a code (which will be going out next week)

I've played it for 30 mins now.

I really like the menu options. Co-op has a RPG element of leveling up which is cool. Where each bullit landed on an enemy is one experience point.

The different classes have different rates of xp and the type of chimera will also effect it as well.

Headshots and Melee will also net you higher rates, specially if you get the kill shot/hit with them.

Just remember to keep a eye on your ammo supply cause it can get crazy at points even more so if you have bad team mates that don't resupply and your surronded by chimeras or a swarm of the new tank type chimera (the yellow shield guys).

And never be afraid to use grenades! The amount of people that don't use them is astounding at the moment.

the coop quite simply is just amazing i means if they were to release the co op by itself as a game for even 40 bucks i'd buy it. the greatest thing about it is it's depth becuase you wouldn't expect a game with a SP, MP and seperate coop to have alot of the features as a co op only game like left 4 dead. the regular competitive online was slightly underwhelming but that was until i started skirmish mode which was so much more fun and not just regular stupid TDM. over all this looks like a solid buy for anyone cause this game is probably the best deal for $60 this gen next to orange boxRagashahs

only game i can think of possibly topping the coop is Left4Dead, and from what i have played on the beta its going to be very hard to top. Trust me, you havent played anything like this.

I played some more co-op for about another two hours last night and I was still having a lot of fun but there are a few evident downsides. First off, more people need to start buying headsets (cheap USB headsets work dudes!) because there are some parts where if just a few people on your team don't know how to play the game to the fullest all of you will suffer. For example, one guy last night NEVER used his shield with his gatling gun (I know that's not the technical name...but it's the gun the soldiers use) and me being a medic I had to constantly revive him and heal him, it was annoying. Secondly, sometimes the boss fights take a little long. Last night I fought like 4 or 5 big enemies in a row and it really slowed the game down to the point where I wasn't have as much fun as I did when there were a bunch of big, medium, and small enemies around. These are just small things though, I mean not everyone is going to be excellent at the game and even though one of my games featured a few big boss fights in a row, out of 4+ hours of gameplay all at one map I was still seeing new areas that I hadn't seen before. It's still a lot of fun and I think pretty soon I'll be playing the large, 30-60 player competitive maps.

Lastly, last night was THE FIRST time my gf has ever played a FPS shooter and even though I just quickly handed her the controller (to get pizza in and out of the oven...tombstone 4 meat rocks) she actually did quite well for not really knowing the buttons or how FPS shooters play (in terms of A.I. patterns and cover). I mean she killed a few Grims and Chimera soldiers and you should of seen her freaking out when a grim started coming at her face, truly priceless. I mean, she had fun playing a semi-gorey, scary, and stressful first person shooter. I think online co-op could help a lot of people get into the FPS genre that are perhaps more used to casual games.

Anyone tried the 60 players online? I wanna know if it's laggy or not.

The co-op sure sounds lots of fun. Hopefully my friends will get the game too so we can enjoy some awesome co-op.

I think XBL is a smoother FASTER as far as downloading demo's and other content. But PSN has the server advantage and its features are catching up.

Both services support dedicated servers. Its up to the developer on whether or not to support them with their game.

I got my beta code from Qore episode 3...however, I must say I have no idea if you can buy the episode today and get a code for the beta. I know if you go to the playstation blog they have an article on it but I didn't read it extensively.
