Retro Games - Has Saturn aged better than PS1

Looking back in retrospect at the software catalogue for Saturn & PS1, I reckon there are now more good 'retro' games (ones that really stand the test of time) on the Saturn. Obviously this is mostly because of the huge amount of 2D games that were created for it (after all Saturns '3D' was way to complex to program compared to its poweful 2D, and only a few games really pushed the machine polygonally - VF2, Last Bronx & Sega Rally are among the few.

Timeless 'retro'2D Saturn games that stand the test of time include:

Guardian Heroes, Dalkstalkers, Vampire Hunter,The many Capcom V's games, Street Fighter Alpha's & SFII Collection, Capcom Arcade Collection Vo.1-4, Gradius Collection, Layer section,

Samurai shodown collection, Metal Slug & King of Fighters Series -the Saturn versions were the definitive 32bit console versions as not many could afford those 16bit Neo-Geo cartprices.

IMO these '2D' games have aged much better and are now much more playable than many polygonal '3D' games of that era, andSaturn had morehigher qualityversions than the PS1.

considering the quality of 3D PS1 games only really got good after late 1997, it wouldn't really surprise me, there's a ton of really nasty looking 3D PS1 games

Yes.. If you have an action replay that can play import games. Otherwise no, it just doesnt have the library to compete. THe japanese saturn imo is one of the best consoles ever

i dont know when psx was out i thought 3d games > 2d games, but from now days view 2d games do look better than old psone 3d graphics if you have seen crysis & co.

Dude, Sega Saturn was soo much fun!

However, FF7 on the PS1 takes the cake. PS1 is one of the greatest inventions ;)

they both look terrible now. time is not kind to early 3D graphics

Yes.. If you have an action replay that can play import games. Otherwise no, it just doesnt have the library to compete. THe japanese saturn imo is one of the best consoles ever

yeah it is if you have either a region x cart, or the action replay plugged into the cartridge slot. So it kind of is and isnt at the same time

DC Soul calibur is so much better than PS1 Soul Blade - but anyhow....digi-demon

Fighters Megamix was good back in its day & I still own it, but IMO it ain't aged well, just like the early Tekken games (1&2) and DOA1all look & play terrible now.

Well I can still play Virtua Fighter1/Remix & 2, Panzer Dragoon, Galactic Attack, Sonic 3D Blast, NBA Jam T.E, and VR Virtua On Cyber Troopers without any problems. I think racing games, like Cyber Speedway and VR Virtua Racing, are the ones that haven't aged too well due to things like late pop-ins.

alot of psx games still hold up well i downloaded these games on psn and am having a ball.

Resident Evil 1 and 2

Dino Crysis

Crash Bandicoot 1,2 and 3

Spyro

Tekken 2 and 3

My main thing against the saturn is that I can actually find PS1 games in the states with some relative ease if I go to the right places. Saturn games, not so much. If I lived in japan maybe.
