http://www.gamespot.com/articles/metroid-prime-dev-teasing-e3-game-reveal/1100-6427941/

This is getting exciting. But...At least wait until E3 guys. Give us some surprises.

Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze developer Retro Studios is teasing a new game announcement for E3.

A cryptic tease was posted on the studio's official Twitter account stating "Can you dig it?" Also included was a link to the Nintendo E3 website.

Given Retro's history with the series, and the intense demand for it, fans are speculating that a new Metroidgame from the studio may be announced at E3.

On the one hand, the tease doesn't fit the the Metroid series, but on the other it could be a veiled reference to a new mechanic.

Retro Studios' most recent games have been Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The tease could also be for a third game in that series.

Another speculative guesses--and the one that seems most apt--is a new Drill Dozer, a game previously developed by Pokemon studio Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance.

Nintendo's E3 press conference will take place on June 16. For a complete list of times, check out our E3 press conference schedule.

The specifically chosen teaser phrase, "Can you dig it?"

Does not in any shape or form really scream Metroid to me, although I wish it were.

It could be a new DK, new IP, or perhaps other digging IP like Drill Dozer.

As the article says, it could be a new gameplay element...

Why would retro waste their time with some old random GBA game instead of a new Metroid?

Way too cryptic for a teaser. Doesn't really yell 'Metroid' to me although I sure damn well wish that is what it is!

A "can you dig it" teaser is the fullest thing that brings me away from Metroid at all. Also, keep in mind that in teasers what is shown end up usually being the predominant mechanic throughout the game. Dig dug? I can buy a teaser like this for a game like Dig dug. Metroid, I can't, and if the main gameplay consists or is anyway revolved around such a mechanic, tbh I don't know how eager I'd be to playing it anyway.

I'm betting we're not going to be seeing Metroid this year.

Liked the prime games. Hated the 2D metroids. So we'll have to see what it is.

It's completely misleading as Retro Studio's tweet specifies nothing at all, but just hyping up Nintendo's e3.

Well, Sakamoto is no longer involved with Metroid anymore ever since the disaster known as Other M flopped hard in sales

I don't think the phrase is related to the game they are working on. At least thats not the impression I got when I saw the tweet a few hours ago, but who knows.

As irrational as the Metroid fans who cried foul when Tropical Freeze showed it's face. plus Cranky's announcement at VGX all during 2013?

Besides, what's so irrational about me wanting Retro Studios to do something else other than an IP they worked on THREE DAMN times in comparison to two with DK?

No, but you seem to have somehow convinced yourself, for some asinine reason, that Metroid is now in the same league of dead franchises for Nintendo as Star Fox or F-Zero. This is laughable, because while multiple times, you have been shown proof to the contrary, and been shown that Nintendo has publicly stated that it is still interested in Metroid, publicly announced new Metroid games, and publicly expressed interest in more Metroid Prime (as opposed to Star Fox and F-Zero where they straight up disavowed those series after Climax and Assault), you continue to plug a finger in your ear and maintain that the series is dead.

This is even funnier, since new games have already been confirmed, and even Star Fox, one of your points of comparison, is getting a revival this year.

You have no grounds for your 'argument' beyond what you feel, and, increasingly it feel like, what you want.

Well, until the franchise shows it's face like Star Fox seems to (I was on GS during E3 2014, char, you know that) be doing, should I really believe anything that comes out of Nintendo's mouth for something they have yet to show? Just wording out "interest" is not good enough.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Retro makes another Metroid, I'll be greatly disappointed in them and Nintendo (because Iwata in recent days has been doing a damn good job at that) as the former has much potential in doing more and it seems nobody wants that at all.

I would rather have Metroid be handle by Developers that know the franchise better than Sakamoto, and Retro Studios fit that description better than any outside devs.

Imagine a metroid with ori and the blind forest quality artwork.

I wouldn't be against a new Metroid being made by Retro. Although I do find it bothersome that some people think that Metroid should only be made by Retro, or that Retro should only focus on Metroid, as if these two must be stuck together forever now. That and Prime 3 was kind of disappointing (not bad, not great), so I wonder if Retro would even be able to make another Metroid as close to awesome as the first two prime games. It's been a while so maybe they've thought of some new ideas?

That being said I'd personally rather see Retro make their own new IP, or atleast work on an old, underutilized Nintendo IP or something like that.

I don't want to get my hopes up that it's Metroid. I want it to be Metroid, though. Damnit do I want a Metroid announcement.

And? Surely another dev, not Retro or Sakamoto, can't do it?

I would rather have Metroid be handle by Developers that know the franchise better than Sakamoto, and Retro Studios fit that description better than any outside devs.

See, here's the thing, at the time Prime 1 was announced, a lot of fans had NO idea how Retro was going to do it by putting it into first person (and several admitted negative thoughts about it) and some would argue that they lost the plot with the third game. Kind of a stretch to say Retro knows it better than any other dev who hasn't even had their hand in the franchise yet, don't you think?

I really hope Retro does make an appearance at E3 this year. IMHO they are the #1 developers in the industry at this point. Their track record is actually perfect.
