I'm really excited about a lot of the 360's top titles this year, it seems like the blockbuster sequels are going to be big leaps forward --

Mass Effect 2 - Did away with a lot of the awkward mechanics in the original, including the flawed side quest system, and transformed combat from an ungainly experience into something intense and fun.

Splinter Cell: Conviction - As anyone can see from trailers, this game has been rebuilt from the ground-up and looks much more action-oriented and fast-paced than the earlier games in the series. Based on the just released story trailer, I think SC: C could garner a few Game of the Year nominations by the time 2010's all said and done.

Halo: Reach - While ODST seemed like a cash-in, Reach is going to be Bungie's swan song to their famous series, and it looks like they're up to the task right now. Massive environments, tons of enemies on screen, and team-based play with multiple Spartans...I'm wary of Reach since Halo's disappointed me since Halo 2, but my cautious optimism is growing.

I think this contrasts rather strongly with the PS3 side which, while it has an incredibly strong exclusive lineup this year, seems to have few changes to their titles' base formulas. FFXIII is the same JRPG people have been playing for years, and early reviews seem a little ambivalent about this fact; GOW III looks exciting, but it's not clear that there's been any change to the fundamental gameplay compared to GOW and GOW II. The same can be said of GT5.

Uh... ME 2 has less "gameplay options" than the first. It upgrades a single weapon... as opposed to multiple weapons cache, and you play a flash version of EVE to do that. Essentially, they made it a shooter. SC:C is not out, and dosn't look (necessarily) more action oriented. If it is more action oriented, however... they made it more like MGS... and more like a shooter. Halo Reach is a shooter that uses what other shooters have been using for 10 years... and it's somehow a revolution? I don't know.

Nothing revolutionary really. Mass Effect 2 - Dumbed down, less RPG ellements more shooter elements, clearly they were pushing for the GeoW and Halo crowd. Sam fisher doesn't look like Sam Fisher, i would rather have the old stealthy Sam than the new Rambo one. And Halo looks like Halo....
