Novient Falcon

It got a 9.0 from ign.com

This thing looks like it could be promising. With this and the Wii controllers, making more people will be looking for ways to improve upon controllers.

Some people that have responded have said that there are other attachments for it like a pistol grip.

This is the controller that all the sheep thought the Nintendo Wii (Revolution) was getting. That and Nintendo ON.

I miss those days.

It's huge...

It looks like it's awkward to hold...

It doesn't replicate life and fails at immersion...

Keep the mouse and leave the third dimension out of it unless you can find a way to do it better...

this would be under haptics right? so what basically this thing give the user the sense of what there doing in the game. also i dont see this being mainstream, like look at how hes playing half-life, his arm would be dead in 30 min maybe even sooner

Looks... interesting. It's basically a delta robot, it seems. Kudos to Novint for finding it a good use beyond packing small stuff.

I'm not sold on it at $239, though the concept is great.

A long time ago I used a really cool force feedback controller for the PC. There was a really simple simulation of a ball being caught in a blanket and you throw it into the air with the controller. It had an amazing feel to it. This was like over a decade ago and nobody seems to have worked that into day to day controls. Kind of sad.

$239 for what most pc ppl will see as a mouse replacement. I don't see it catching on and i don't see good software support for it. it'll got the way of the MS sidewinder did in 98.

Seems interesting, but I'll have to try one out for myself first. There are some issues, though: -I can't see myself playing HL2 with that ball grip. Maybe with that pistol grip they were referring to...does anyone have pics of said pistol grip? -And I really hope that pistol grip is loaded with buttons. I need all the buttons I can get on this device. -If aiming requires me to re-center the grip like a joystick would, then it would probably hinder my aim compared to a mouse. -It's only 3DoF-TX, TY, TZ, from the looks of it. I want full-blown 6DoF-the translational X, Y, and Z AS WELL AS the rotational X, Y, and Z. -It's EXPENSIVE. (Then again, I spent something on the order of 333 US$ for my FCC-modded TM HOTAS Cougar...)

We already have motion sensing with percision accuracy and we've had it since the beginning of gaming (the mouse).

The Mouse is 2D though. It only senses two axes of freedom. In theory, a 3D controller would be more appropriate for 3D games and applications.

Well, according to you it does its job. Wouldn't your arm be tired if you did all that the character was doing?

I'm intrigued, but with that price it better work with at least half of my games.

effthat

It's got interchangable grips, including a pistol grip.

It probably won't have a chance, I doubt many developers will pick it up.

But a mouse doesn't have force-feedback now, does it? (And if you want to play the Wiimote card, rumble isn't really force-feedback, as it doesn't jerk your hand in a specific direction according to the actions on-screen.) The whole point of this Falcon device is the force-feedback, with its supposed ability to let you get a good feel of textures and other such things. A mouse does not provide that, nor does the Wiimote. Or even a force-feedback joystick, for that matter, since those devices are only 2DoF(well, 3DoF if yours is a twisty)as opposed to the Falcon's 3DoF. As to whether you'll get more headshots using a Falcon or a mouse, though...that's another case.

I've heard about it, and it sounds neat, but PC peripherals generally don't catch on.
