Yep, it's true. The only thing R* cares about is money. Yes, I know the only thing anyone cares about is money but look how quickly things change....

GTA:SA ALONE sold almost 15 million copies on the PS2. Let's just put that in money terms for a minute. 15 million x $50 a game = like $750 MILLION. Now, obviously not everyone bought the game for $50 and let's say the game's budget was about $30 million with liscensing and everything....Let's drop that $750 million to about $500 million. Sony brought Rockstar and Take-Two $500 million on ONE game alone.

And after Sony was so good to R*, this is how they pay them back....They blindfully agree to $50 million by Microsoft and their monoply money and bam, stab Sony HARD in the back. They might as well release the game as a 360 exclusive, wouldn't change much.

This just goes to show you that Microsoft is a disease for the industry. They want to monopolize the gaming industry the way they have done to the PC world and are further trying to do in the entertainment world as a whole. One can argue that Sony would do the same thing if they could, well, I prefer to choose the lesser of two evils. In any case, I'm basically fed up with this and at this point, I'm seriously thinking about getting a 360.

Boohoo , a game is now on both consoles released at the same time rather than coming out on a second console 6 months later.

Stop crying

Also, MS didnt start the "pay for exclusive stuff" thing.

Ok. I just dont get it.

"MICROSOFT ARE SO DAMN EVIL, I JUST MIGHT HAVE TO GET ONE OF THEIR CONSOLES!!"

Uhwha?

This is how business works. Sony paid money for the timed exclusivity of Vice City and San Andreas, and Microsoft have paid for Exclusive content. Sony havn't been on the ball and havn't been securing exclusives for you PS3 fans, letting them slip away. You should be blaming Sony for not paying what they paid before to keep things for you, instead deciding to rely on the fact that most of you are so rabid in fanboyism that you'd have bought one even if no games came out for the whole first year.

would you be loyal to sony if ms offered you 50 million not to? didnt think so. also, people are blowing this out of proportions, its just a few downloads. casuals, the main market for gta, probably wont know about the exclusive content anyway.

I wouldn't call it a monopoly. The main game will still appear in its entirety on the PlayStation 3 -- it's called "extra content" for a reason, so it's not like Rockstar are just selling off stuff they cut from the main portion. Microsoft have gotten a nifty little exclusive deal going on, but really, are they the only manufacturer guilty of this? No, it's just the way business works. For example, Sony were keen to snap up timed Haze exclusivity for later this year. Are they damaging the industry by not letting anyone else play it for months? No, they most certainly aren't. Consoles need unique selling points to survive.

why would R* owe sony anything? thats like saying that konami and SE should be constantly thanking sony and remain ;loyal to them through thick and thin. the idea is a bit silly imho. its the other way around. GTA games helped PS2 sales. games like FFVII and MGS make the PS more popular. is anyhting sony, MS and nintendo should be on their knees to get support from 3rd parties. nintendo have certainly changed their tune since N64 days. they know that they have to make their platform attractive to devs and publishers. so they have lower licencing fees and cheaper SDKs for the wii and DS. MS still have the biggest installed userbase which makes the 360 a tempting platform to make games for. its also easier due to great SDKs.

what do sony offer at the moment? a relatively small userbase, a powerful but complicated to work with machine (with a HDD as standard and bigger capacity discs) and high devs costs and licencing fees. frankly sony should be very greatful for the support their getting at the mo.

3 rd parties dont owe sony a dam thing. its the other way around (and that applies to MS and ninty too).

The way you added it is horrible. Sony gets a huge part of that $750 million. Rockstar is rich and successful, yeah, but the way you add things is not right.

And when you spend over 3 years (they started work on GTA4 before San Andreas even finished) of hard work on a game, you want a commercial success and money to pay for your hard work. And right now, the Xbox 360 has the larger user-install base, so why wouldn't Rockstar put some extra stuff on there?

To be honest it was always the best choice but i wouldn't buy one just yet. As i mentioned in another thread the build quality of the hardware is CRAP right now. Apparently they're bringing out a new version that doesnt overheat at the end of the year

Exactly, Some of us had to come to terms with Nintendo being shoved into 3rd place a decade ago after people switched over to Sony. If people wanted the best titles out they bought a PS1. Now its Sonys turn and its the end of the world for game fans? Nintendo got complacent and deserved to be passed by how is this any different from what we see going on now?

The PS3 is not the death knell for Sony, it will end up doing fine this gen. I would be more worried about the next Xbox coming out and being state of the art four or five years from now while Sony is stuck with the PS3 for 8 or 9 more years.

Until M$ starts to advertise that their version has extra content. Trust me, if they invest that much into acquiring exclusive content, they will spend another million or so to make sure that people know it.

Lemmings say that "it's business" because that's what it is, pure and simple. If you've got anoyther word for it then I'd be glad to hear it.

Paying a developer that supplies product to you and your competition to give you an edge is business. Cutthroat business, but business nonetheless.

Sony did this to themselves. They said when they lost GTA exclusivity that the GTA franchise didn't sell that many PS2s which is a load of BS so they deserve this. IF cows want that exclusive content so much buy a 360 .

It is sad the Microsoft is treatig the videogame industry this way. Crippling the game on one console so oyu can get your jollies seems wrong. If they just had it as a timed exclusive at least everyone would have gotten to play the whole game. Even an exclusive would have optimized the game for the xbox. But screwing the consumer over with paid online, defective hardware and deep pocketing the competition seems ehtically wrong, and yes there are ethics in business.

Whether the TC was calculating profit or revenue, he said that "Sony brought Rockstar and Take-Two $500 million on ONE game alone." As someone else stated, he completely disregarded that Sony gets a large chunk of whatever revenue the game generated.

Come on gamers lets stop with the "MS is like a cancer" statements....In all honesty all of the market leaders of the past have gotten a big head and ruined the franchises they created. Atari, Nintendo, and now Sony are all guilty of having the power the sway the industry but not in the direction most beneficial to gamers in the end. I guess its only a matter of time before the same happens to MS, but lets please stop acting as if MS is the antichrist in the gaming realm at the moment......as for the PC, thats a different story!

Its funny how some gamers label rival companies as the bad guys because their console of choice doesnt have the software they really want (too stubborn and loyal to one company). Old skool gamers such as myself have seen this type of behavior before:

Atari lost exclusive to Ninty

Ninty lost eclusives to Sega

Sega lost exclusives to Ninty

Ninty lost exclusives to Sony

Sony lost exclusives to MS

Now how can someone pinpoint one company as the bad guy a videogame war?!?!?

Game On...

The extra content isn't that big of deal. I bet MS tried extremely hard to get GTA exclusive to 36o, but RockStar said no. The game is still releasing on the PS3 MS threw some moneyat RockStar and in returnthey threw some lame extra crap on the 360. But you say RockStar stabbed Sony in the back? lol RockStar is trying to save the PS3 while trying to make money off of the 360 larger user base. Everyone wins.

Cows need to stop this rubbish about getting stabbed in the back, first it was Capcom with DMC4, now Rockstar, next it will be Konami. It's business, and Sony messed up with the price point for PS3, blame them.

So now its Rockstar's turn. First it was Ubisoft then Capcom.

So if FFXIII or MGS4 became multiplatform, you'll hate Kojima and Square Enix?

[QUOTE="nybritboy"]Im sure I read that Rockstar wanted to talk to Sony about exclusivity for PS3 but Sony japan never gave the go ahead, same for Assasins Creed, sorry cant find link nownybritboy

Ok found the link about Assasins Creed

Assasins Creed was always planned for the 360...infact, the first footage they showed of the "PS3 version" was running on a 360 dev kit.

It was announced way back in X06...just under a different title.

It was X05 and the title is Project Assassin. And yeah, it has been known since that AC is will appear on the 360. But DMC4 was a bit of a shock to a lot of cows but it has been hinted that Capcom will pursue multiplatform development ever since the failure of the Capcom 5.
