Seriously, after the "hot coffee" debacle, I thought Rockstar would be more careful. Apparently not. Now, whether Manhunt 2 deserves the AO rating or not is probably debatable. However, Rockstar HAD TO HAVE KNOWN that they are being watched under a microscope. They've had controversy in the past, and this latest controversy is just going to hurt them even more.

Don't be surprised if GTA IV ends up being delayed because of all this...

They do these things because there are limits and when they cross them(Or come close to it) they get a ton of publicty. R* love the contorversy and free publicity they are getting with the whole Manhunt debacle.

I'm glad this happened. There has to be limits on things like this if we want the game industry to stay reputable and not have the government kick out the ESRB in this contry.

Well, good for RockStar. I guess the developers think the controversy and free publicity is entirely worth it now that they have to invest more time and money to reprogram parts of the game to get an M-rating. Seems logical

Did everyone just seem to magically forget that Rockstar is this kind of allmighty paragon of a shock value seeker, and that it does this on purpose, regardless of moral standing? Or were we too busy crying because the Wii kicks so much ass?

hmm, I think that they learned that there are limits right around the time when the UK banned their game.

As for banning games, that's a violation of free expression. Games should be rated appropriately, and users with sufficient maturity should be able to make their own decisions.

I'm wondering, however, as to why the Manhunt 2 topic got locked....

The fact of what in the game is irrelevant. It's the fact that a panel of people with biases and moral stances based on their ideology get to choose what's "right" and "wrong." Thus, altering the sales of a great game. This goes the same way for the MPAA ratings board too.

Probably because of the lack of proof that OT provided.

If it is true, however, R* is really overdoing it. I have no problem with ingame rape as long as there is a valid importance to the game's story. However, to do it just because you can is simply over the top.

Rockstar needs a reality adjustment. The only way that would work is if no one bought the game. However, some people are without souls and find entertainment in beheading and raping a woman.

Yeah I agree they have seriously gone too far with Manhunt 2.

I actually feel bad for RockStar. I really don't know why peopleare gettingso worked up over Manhunt 2.

I mean I don't see people get upset when someone chainsaws a guy up in Gears of War and blood spatters all over the screen while his mutilated corpse falls to the grounds. Instead of getting upset over that, you usually hear OMG that was freaking AWESOME. I got to do that again. True story. Just ask Jeff.

I don't see people getting upset over Bioshock either. All these screens that have been released recently have shown some reallygrotesque images, yet all I hear is how awesome this game is going to be.

I don't see people getting upset over snipering some soldiers head off in a WWII shooter that has realistic graphics.

I also don't see people getting upset over movies like Hostel, The Hills Have Eyes, The Devil Rejects,The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Saw.

So I really don't see why people are getting upset over Manhunt 2.

No one should have censorship control of a form of entertainment, if one is too weak minded to stand such material or be "influenced" they can shove it into their deep reccesses and should not be allowed force their worthless morals and beliefs on any other human.

:? you have no idea what you are talking about and its not surprising considering your past posts. it doesnt cost tons of money to cut out scenes or edit parts out, and in all likelyhood they have the M rated version sitting in the shadows waiting untill the time of release.

Hippostrike

Do you find entertainment in killing a human being? I sure as hell have at some point in a game. But thats were we cross reality from fiction. Then again, this view in society is well received and completely normal nowadays.

Onto rape... This subject however does not fit the above and it will probably fall into the many levels of peoples morals and or when the line is actually crossed... I really don't want to get there. However, it's still a game and the game gives you the choice.

In any case, I think you can handle this conversation. Could you perform rape in real life? You probably could, would you do it? The only huge difference that this is actually a game and you preatty much giving me an assurance, that you would not do so in the game.

I could see the concern in other situations. But most people are showing their concern on their disgust for its availability, despite the fact that they would never do this in the game.

this is the USA, there should be no limits as long as its rated appropriately. if only adults can buy it.....i dont really see the big deal. big kids need games too. not just online shooters either.

im a HUGE horror movie fan and games like this are as close as i can get to that kind of gaming experience.

There shouldn't be any limits in my opinion. As long as it doesn't directly harm a human being, then who cares? We have the ability to not purchase or play a game that goes too far according to our personal morals. However, telling someone else that they cannot play a game based on those same personal morals is wrong.

As someone else said, big boys need games too. Not allowing an AO game on their systems is ridiculous. That's like someone stopping porn from being sold on DVDs because it's for adults only. That rating exists for a reason, what's the point of even having it if Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft aren't going to allow games that receive it onto their system.

We might as well get rid of the rating and start enforcing heavy censorship. That's the message I'm getting here and I don't like it at all.

Screw the norm, at least Rockstar is trying to push the limits of games on a political front. Whether you agree with the game or not is your own opinion, however the Hot Coffee Mod was an exploit in the game and was not intended to be in there, but someone threw it in the game but you had to actually hack it in order to get the stuff, it was a mistake. Manhunt 2 is intentional, they are pushing the limits of gaming in terms of maturity, but then again if you watch the trailer for No More Heroes, you can slice apart enemies with a sword and blood splatters everywhere, yet that game wont get AO or banned.

The difference is that the ESRB did not go out and file a lawsuit against Rockstar like the MPAA have been doing for the last couple of years, those jerks seem bent on ridding the internet of all guitar and bass tablature websiteswithin their jurisdiction, even though it is classified as interpretation and is not against copyright laws even if someone writes out a tablature of a song for guitar, all it is at the end of the day is a text file with numbers and a lot of interpretations are no 100% accurate of the real song, god knows how many renditions of Back in Black by AC/DC exist on the internet and most are not correct (I have the official tab book). Either way the MPAA and ESRB are control freak corporations bent on destroying all the things other people believe in. I am glad I live in Canada where they cannot bug me, its too bad the ESRB has rule over all games in this hemisphere.

When will Rockstar learn that there are limits...? Personally, I commend Rockstar for being one of very few (if there are any others) developers who keep trying to push the idea that there shouldn't BE limits.

Sony and Nintendo should stop being uptight d!ckheads about this, and let the game play, as is. It's not a violation of free speech or anything, seeing as the government doesn't have a hand in it, it's just Nintendo and Sony being complete a$$holes and insulting the intelligence and morals of every single one of their customers. I, for one, wasn't even very interested in Manhunt 2, but this still pisses me off beyond belief. By banning the game on their systems, purely because of the rating, Nintendo and Sony are saying to their customers, "You are not smart enough to determine for yourself what you find acceptable to play on the console that you spent your hard-earned money on, so we'll do it for you, and keep your money".

I personally know a few people who bought the Wii solely because they knew (or thought they knew) that Manhunt 2 was going to be on it, and when they get word of this, there's liable to be lawsuits if they aren't able to return the consoles, and rightfully so. And Sony! WTF IS THIS?? The PS2 wouldn't be half as successful as it is if it weren't for Rockstar's decision to keep the GTA games exclusive to it (at least temporarily, and we all know that Microsoft was surely offering a pretty penny, which Rockstar declined, being loyal to Sony), and now Sony is just spitting in their face by saying, "hey, you pretty much made this console what it is, but we're not letting you release this". I never thought I'd see such blatent disrespect from a console-maker to both the developers that make their business possible, AND the consumers who make their business profitable.

I was planning on buying a PS3 at some point, and maybe even a Wii, but after this... If this decision stands and Manhunt 2 is not released, or forced to be remade for the M rating, I'll never buy another Nintendo or Sony product again. And I urge anyone else who wants the CONSOLE-MAKERS to learn that there are limits to do the same. Don't let this bullsh!t stand.

Rating systems- "ya, you can make any art you want, so long as it's not original and doesn't evoke any emotion"
