Hey guys, just sharing as usual, discuss......

Is the Red Ring of Death Finally a Thing of the Past?

If you've owned an Xbox 360, chances are you've been on the phone with customer support trying to get a coffin for your now-dead console. While some models fail due to DVD drives breaking down or graphics cards going kabloey, the most common cause of premature Xbox death is the dreaded general hardware failure, aka the Red Ring of Death. If reports are to be believed however, Microsoft has now fixed the issue once and for all.

Word on the street is that earlier this summer Microsoft began quietly shipping Xboxes featuring the Jasper chipset, which is smaller and runs cooler than its older brothers. Conventional wisdom holds that Microsoft's previous chipsets were the primary cause of the dreaded RRoD. According to JoeyGadget, the new Jaspers are found in all 360s produced after June 6, 2008, falling in lot #8031 and up. Therefore, if you're in the market for a new system, it would be good to check and see if you can get one that falls within those parameters.

Due to the fact that Microsoft never officially disclosed the reason behind the RRoD, the company has not commented on the release of the Jasper chipset. Therefore, we don't know if these chips are also going into replacement and refurbished Xboxes, or if they are reserved solely for new models. What we do know is that these little beauties are out there, and hopefully that means you won't have to see those horrid flashing red lights ever again. Now then, if only Microsoft could take care of all the other things that tend to break on their machine then we might finally have a little closure.

TGR Verdict: Rumor Confirmed

No. Aslong as people still own the older generation of 360's then it should still be happening, even with new models, they can't completely remove the old ones from circulation.

Find it strange that MS hasn't come out with an official press announcement or something like that.

and "Due to the fact that Microsoft never officially disclosed the reason behind the RRoD, the company has not commented on the release of the Jasper chipset."

So in the end this is all just speculation.

We've heard it was fixed with the Xclamps, fixed with the bigger heatsink, fixed with the Elite Edition, Fixed with the Falcon, Fixed with the HDMI mobo, now fans are claiming fixed with Jasper. Until MS makes a statement officially saying they have resolved the situation I wouldn't assume it is fixed.

I do not think it is dead but definitely taking its last breathe. My brother has the launch console and I bought the elite as soon as it came out, so far so good. I never really understood the 33% failure bc most of my friends never experienced the rrod and I am thinking of over 30 people. Still a small sample size, I am sure someone got rrod three times by now, lol.

My 360 just died on me last week. Ironically I hadn't touched it for over a week, and it just died when I turned it on. I put it through all nighters and demanding sessions and nothing. Oh well, at least it went peacefully.

Anyway, there are far too many older systems still out there being used and being refurbished for this problem to ever go away. They'll still be having RRoD problems when the next Xbox is released, the problem is too widespread..

As long as 360's are being made, there will always be disappointed customers who get the RRoD.

That's horse. Mine just RRoD'd on me today which annoys the hell out of me with Fable 2 coming so soon. Hopefully they get it back to me fairly quickly.

Of course, I had a 360 made before that Jasper set so yeah.

As a person who just sent an early release console to Texas to be fixed or replaced, I call BS. As long as there are people who have these consoles like mine, along with the ones that still sit on shelves that don't have the new chipset, it is still an issue. Is it an epidemic?, nah. But it won't be dead until every 360 that has the potential to get it is either fixed, replaced, or put out of commission.

It will never die, too many people have RROD worthy 360's. If they can suddenly give EVERY 360 owner in the world a Jasper then it'll die. It isn't dead and it isn't as bad as some make it out to be, but it still is a problem that'll most likely never go away.

I'd like to believe it's gone, but it's not, my close personal friends 360 red ringed last week, and another person on my friends list red ringed on Tuesday, and he bought another 360 because he didn't want to have to wait to play Fable 2, and Gears 2.

I have my doubts that it will be completely eradicated.

I honestly think its the slimming design of the console that gives it its failure rate.

Just think with me on this one.

What other console do you ever remember that has concave sides? None.

What other console has had a problem like that ? None that I can remember, but its a good possibility that there is one out there.

So, yeah, it may not be the functions or the chipset, it may be the shape. Just wild speculation.

Precisely. There's still, at least ten million defective consoles in circulation and the guys at the post office still get regular RROD shipments in the official Microsoft boxes.

Even though there is a repair center in Frankfurt, that could be anything you sent off there. I'm not asking you to bend over backwards and prove it, but your username alone just hurts your credibility when it comes to scenarios like this.

RROD = General hardware failure .. that can be ANYTHING deemed serious enough for repair.

Consoles breaking will NEVER end, no matter what console, therefore the RROD will never end.

The most common cause, overheating, WILL end.

it doesnt really matter if microsoft fixed the core root of the RROD problem. It's not like people are going to forget about it at this point. people will still make posts about they're 30th 360 getting RROD and that they've finally had enough with microsoft's BS and then talks about getting a ps3.

maybe next generation microsoft..

No it hasn't, not to sound like another bs story about my 360 got a RROD last week, but my brother experienced his 1st RROD with a Falcon model. I remember he tried so hard to make sure he got a Falcon. Checked out the box, manufacture date and all of that other good ole stuff.

I haven't seen a person cry "RROD killed my 360" for quite a while now. I've had my 360 since launch and it still runs fine(It's as quite as my PS3 as well). I'm probably one of the really lucky ones, but seeing as I haven't seen any signs or problems with my 360 since then, RROD is nonexistant to me.
