What he's saying is pretty subjective except the point about who consoles are made for, he's definitely right on with that one. 

The rest of it could be argued either way a person who prefers consoles could turn that whole article upside down and it would make just as much sense. 

Although I must say in the past couple of years PC gaming has had a much more entrepreneurial feel to it.  Like if you are dedicated you could release an indie game and have it be a  huge success, especially with Kickstarter.  Where in contrast the console games only become really popular if they get put in the hype machine by Sony/MS and have multi millions of dollars spent on production (CGI), Marketing etc. 

History will look back and say "those consoles sure sucked dick".

He's lucky I loved Freelancer but he should keep venues open for a glorious ps4 version.

The article is true on one hand, however 1) he does understate the important factor of convinience associated with consoles and 2) there is generally enough variety/quality on any given console to keep most people occupied without need for a second or third device (I'm referencing myself here admitedlly - i.e. my life is consumed by 9-5 grind, garnished with a little social interaction just to remind me I am still normal). Interesting point about consoles being the domain of publishers, which is true - the same as those who dominate other forms of entertainment. The freewheeling PC may be the sole bastion for developers to really get creative, however as much as I'd like to get involved more, TBH I really just can't be fvcked with it.

Who cares. It never stopped graphically heavy titles from selling millions of copies on PC. Examples: Crysis, Witcher 2, Total War. All of them sold over 2M copies on PC. More than enough for an indie developer who doesn´t need to spend money on marketing, publishing or platform fees.

Edit : I asume everyone is aware that this article wasn't written by Chris Roberts, I doubt he was even consulted on it. I'm glad there are people out there writing these as it gives Star Citizen free advertising which means the people's game will be even better :)

You're assuming he's building the game to run on lower end machines. His team is not. They are building it for high end machines of 2014-2015, not low end machines of 2013. Since it's crowd funded the investors know what they are investing in. The team will already have their money so at the least they'll be breaking even with dev costs, which is all most game developers do anyways.

You should educate yourself a bit more about things before you post here. 

Console only gamers are settling for less, this fact has been true for decades.

That's true, but he's completely wrong about Star Citizen. Also depsite the average PC being 3-4 years out of date, that has never once stopped devs from pushing it. PC gamers are usually willing to upgrade to play the latest games.

There is a reason why each year there is always a new best looking game.

Reality is only a fraction of computers out there are "gaming computers" and a lot of developers have difficulty scaling graphics for all PC formats.

Consoles will always have a place in gaming just like PCs because it has a standard format and ease of use.... it's not that difficult to understand that.
