while reading a thread in system wars i realized why Nintendo is calling the Wii "new gen" instead of "next gen".
it is because the Wii is so different from PS3 and 360 (and every console before it too) that you simply cannot compare them. they are made for different things. all the fanboys are like blaming a lawer because he cant perform heart surgery as well as a surgeon. thats not his job. the Wii isnt here to blow us away with stunning visuals or to be able to run 1000 enemies on screen. its to show us that gaming shouldnt be confined to sitting on your couch with a controller in hand. it encourages new ideas that change the way games are played kinda mixing it up a bit.

im sure Nintendo will come back next gen and hand all us our asses with amazing graphics, power, and control. but the Wii is about breaking the walls of gaming and showing that different things work for gaming. alot of things have done this in the past (DDR, Guitar Hero, Duck Hunt, R.O.B., DS etc.) so if you are going to bash the Wii it isnt fair or correct to compare it to PS3 or 360 because it isnt doing the same thing as them.

What Wii is doing is to differentiate itself from PS3 and X360 and divide the casual and the hardcore gamers. So far, they are succesful of identifying PS3 and X360 as "for hardcores" and define itself as "for fun" which is mostly identify the casuals.

Standard bashes to include in a Wii bash thread/post:

"It's a kiddie system"
"It's not for hardcore/It's a casual system"
"It's a fad"
"It's last gen"
"It's graphics are horrible"
"It has no 3rd party support/It only has Mario/Zelda/Metriod/ect."

Indeed, I agree with you. I just put more points. What Wii is doing to video games is what Bush is doing to America - Divide the gamers. Good strategy in my opinion.

True, but also there should be a law against Sony PR lying consistently.

By law I meant SW, my bad. MS has much more media sources than Sony. MS owns some cable TV channels, and they also can influence what sources like TIME magazine say.

This seems to be the principle around here. I'm not sure who thought of this because I have a problem with it. See, I have treasured my Nintendo products (for what their worth as video games) even since the launch of the NES.

Let me ask... how many ppl here have stood in line to get an NES at launch back in 1985? Well not many because it wasn't until the 2nd release that was totally worldwide and available basically everywhere (which was the following year). I did. I was just a kid with my mom at K-mart and we put it on layaway. When we came back we got the mario/duck hunt package and she bought my 10-yard fight to go with it. Ever since I've been a loyal Nintendo fan (not because of some offset mind issues) because they consistantly pump out the best 1st party games. So much that in fact all other consoles I've ever owned I put in the 2nd connection slot on my tvs because if anything were to go...it wouldnt be the Nintendo.

The Wii is no different. It's as much fun as I can remember when I was little and in fact if I was a kid now I'de be going bonkers over this thing. Even Zelda TP blows me away after playing games such as GeoW. That's what I call...a miracle on Nintendo's part. They appeal to each and everyone deep down inside their heart's if they just give it the slightest chance. Perhaps a few doesn't agree with its strategy but hopefully they'll see the light someday. Nintendo could flop much like any other company. I'll just say that I for one am glad to see them still around (along with millions of others apparently).

edit-  the point of my post is to show you that im most certainly hardcore and I couldnt go without the Wii.

Ok, how about i will just bash on Wii because they have hardly any games out. And I can say the same for the PS3 The "it's only for kiddies" doesnt quite fit the wii, since the Farcry game is mature.  Another problem with the wii is there are multi platform games like NFS carbon , they look bad on the wii.  BUT obviously for 250 you're not going to get a powerfull machine.  Most people that will buy a wii wont already have a 360 or a ps3, so they will only notice the virtual console games look just right and the wii games look a little better than GC and ps2.

I have played Wii sports a little bit though, and its somewhat fun, but not enough for me to want a wii.

Nintendo is comlpacent and seems to be getting away with it. It's unfortunate that sheep rewarded Nintendo by purchasing Zelda TP. That game should have been released one year earlier on the GC.
