Rules update: 500 post count repealed, please read.

Hello System Warriors!

Short public service announcement. For a while now, users with less than 500 posts had their threads automatically locked. As of now, we’ve abolished that rule! Community feedback sparked discussion among the team, and we decided it wasn’t serving a good purpose in the community.

But, when one rope slackens, others become tighter.

Moderators will continue to deal with the usual inflammatory topics, fanboy wars and personal attacks. But here are a few things we’ll be looking at a little harder now. This would mostly fall under “disruptive posting”.

- Blatant poor language/grammar

We expect people to communicate with something approximating the English language. We understand that no one is perfect and we're not asking you to be. We simply expect your posts to be legible.

Comment drive-byes:

Comments like “This”, “I agree”, “QFT”, lolsystem, etc, are considered disruptive and don’t add to the conversation. A forum is a place to share your thoughts, we’re simply asking you to express a little more than agreement and carry the conversation forward.

Backseat Modding:

Moderators are volunteers with the site to maintain outstanding discussion. As such, we miss things sometimes. Don’t be internet Batman and try to call out violations yourself. Instead of bumping the violating post or topic, we ask you to flag the post, or PM all mods if the violation needs immediate attention (such as porn).

Disingenuous topics:

Threads with unnecessarily aggressive opening posts, or threads that attempt to shift the topic of discussion by changing the title or editing the OP after discussion on the original topic has commenced and is established will be locked without question and issued a strike.

Generally speaking new threads on any forum typically do not bother with the effort to even glance at rules and with a section entitled "wars", which, by it's very nature, implies conflict, it seems like a paradox, increasing inflammatory threads, while inadvertently trying to tighten them at the same time with stringent rules.

"System Wars" on a fundamental level appears to quite literally, at war with itself.

I'm glad that the 500 post count rule has been removed. It was far more counter productive than any kind of goal you were trying to achieve with it.

It helped in a way because you knew sometime soon the thread would be locked.

Idk, I don't have enough faith in our mods to actually uphold these new rules.

I'm sorry but back then, most of the users who didn't have 500 post got away with there threads not being locked. Even then, Mods posted those threads and didn't even bother to lock them at all. 500 post was useless if the mods aren't doing there jobs err volunteer duties.

I remember when a user posted porn and it remained on the site for more than a half hour at least. we really do need mods here. thank god i was at home that time. if that was a public place and somebody saw it, they'd think i'm a pervert or some shit. give us more mods, and reliable ones at that. not trying to diss any mod but lay down the law goddamn it.

Good on lifting the posting restriction. It was a stupid rule regardless and I wonder how many one-time posters turned away from the forums due to a silly "good old boys only" rule.

Honestly, that was a big reason we decided to drop it. We have all the tools we need to deal with bad topics, the 500 post rule just seemed arbitrary, and as you said, turned away new users.

Not bad. I saw the purpose of the 500-post count rule, but maybe in the end it doesn't matter? Or perhaps the limit was too high? Ah well, that's that and now anyone can post!

Curious about the grammar rules that seems kind of dumb. I really don't think that's so much of a problem that posts should be modded for. Also, the mod changes that are suggested don't seem to address any significant good changes.

For instance if you want to make a positive change with rule enforcement how about a rule that says unless explicitly stating something is your opinion, you can't post false information or lie in attempt to confuses users about a company, system or games. This is something I see all the time and mods allow users attempting to lie about subject matter without submitting proof of their claims.

If mods want to improve the quality of posting how about addressing that and not stupid errors in grammar.

There already is a rule against those things. And it's pretty clear they're not talking about simple grammar errors, but rather protossX (or worse) level gibberish
