The best rts ever made.Ahh,I still remember the campaign mode.It was great.

The single greatest RTS ever conceived.

Still holds up incredibly well even today, 14(!) years after it's initial release.

You're right.. Disappointing, but AoE 2 was still beast back in the early 2000s.

I'd really like to see Age Of Empires 1 with the Rise of Rome expansion rebuilt in the AOE2 engine.  Shame it'll never happen. :'(  I do prefer that period in time and the units, civs that come with it.  If someone could at least mod it with the one click farm rebuild, modern resolutions and unit formations I could certainly spare some cookies for them.

It's not hard to find over here, but it's bit more of a hassle to install on Win7 so I figured I'd wait out for GOG to get it.

Got it on Amazon in the UK and US, cheap as chips.  I've got it working easily enough on Windows 7 and Vista.  Netbook one is valid though I guess so I'll give you that. ;) 

I bought the Gold Edition in January. :P

Well we used to have it but we couldn't find it so my brother purchased it.

I used to play this all day at zone.com lol wow the memories... that was like 13 years ago...

about fking time, now bring all of the other old stuff to steam too

It's got a timeless artstyle, one of it's greatest strengths.

Please be on GOG too.....

I've been burned too many times buying older games off Steam. At least GOG has a guarantee they'll work properly on Windows 7.

I wish I knew the why that goes on as well. If I were a game dev with 20-30 years of games I'd try to make sure every single game was still playable (and purchaseable :twisted: )

Blizzard doesn't have Warcraft 1 & 2 available for download, and EA doesn't have the old C&C games for download, and those are the RTS games I loved the most......

Its most likely the same game just compatible with higher resolutions, it wont be in 3d or using a new engine 99%. ANyone remember that Star War Battlegrounds game? That game was good too!

The official Facebook Age of Empires page just switched their profile picture and cover image to an Age of Empires II motif, after only ever having AoE3 and AoE: Online themed images before. It's actually happening.

Just saw this on GAF. This isn't a re-release. It's literally a remake. They're recoding assets, reworking the code to make it work on Windows 7 and Mac OSX, adding high resolution support, adding Achievements, and probably redoing the netcode to support modern online play, since MSN Zone is now inactive. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D DropsofJupiter
