Not surprising, the Xeno's was ahead of it's time, Nvidia screwed them hard on the xbox deal and Intel's Larrabee sounds like it's having major problems.

Intresting snippet "The consoles refresh was supposed to happen in 2010 but due to the recession both Microsoft and Sony have decided to push its plans for 2012 and keep the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 alive for more than it was originally planned."

Good news for Backwards compatability. Bad news to hear about the Larrabee problems because the graphics community really does need a third contender.

the 360 breaking down was neither the fault of ATI whom designed the 360 gpu, or IBM which designed the cpu, the problem was that instead of microsoft going with a bit more expensive but established fabricator they went with a relatively cheap 3rd party to fabricate the 360 in design and manufacture. I think that the next round microsoft wont make the same mistake.

Agreed (to a degree, anyway; I wouldn't be surprised to hear that MS/Sony considered 2010 launches for their next gen systems or that they're tentatively planning to launch in 2012), but it doesn't take a rocket-surgeon to figure out MS will all but certainly stick with AMD/ATI next gen.

Um ATI has been owning for awhile now. There 4XXX series and now their 5XXX series. Can not get a better performance/price ratio. The 300 series will be extremely overpriced and nvidia will fail.

LOL where have you been?

Nvidia has been playing catch up ever since ATI released their 4xxx series. nVidia simply doesn't have a competitor to match ATI's 40nm chips and loses money on every GPU sold. Its all about performance by price ratio. Both cards have similar performances but one is worth $200 while the other is worth $600.

Let's say these consoles do release in 2012. ATI would already be on their 7xxx series. A 5870 alone kills crysis, so you could imagine what can be accomplished if the next xbox came with a 6870 inside.

this is true, firstly they designed the motherboard themselves instead of using a qualified vendor, also running the 12v fans at only 7.5v to cut down noise was a mistake, i have a modded 360 that's lasted more than 2 years cos i upped the fans to 12v, also did you know that the original design didn't have a detachable HDD, MS added this after the designs had been cleared, the problem with the HDD, is it blocks off nearly one whole side of the console, which doesn't help ventilation, also if you look at the 360 test units they didn't have heat sinks, they had a fan on both the CPU and the GPU, i think if thay had stuck to that, it woul;d have worked a hell of a lot better

Well if you can pay more, nVidia is the best. But comparing both price and value, ATI is better.

If anyone here thinks that nvidia will fail and that ATI/AMD is doing well is delusional. All you need to do is to look at the profiles for both companys to realise that.

I was thinking about keeping my 360 and PS3 quite awhile into next gen, but if it is backwards compatible I might get a launch one.

Well MS have a good relationship with ATI so it sounds right that they would award them the deal again.

I honestlycouldn't care less about the hardware at this point. I just want to know MS are planning to make a serious attempt at gaming next gen.

Not just Halo 7 and Gears 5. I'm expecting some new IP's from there new talented first party devs.

I don't see MS being as fortunate as they were this gen against the PS3. SONY will not repeat there mistakes again.

The Playstation brand is strong enough to fight through even the biggest mistakes ( HUGE price tag, no games)

I doubt they can have a launch much worse then with the PS3.

It all depends on them swallowing their pride but if the PS Wand is anything to go by then ... yeah.

I don't think MS will make the same mistakes either. For a starters they'll make a more reliable console, they know it's not about another billion dollar warrenty program.

I do think they need to sort out some more 1st party devs. Get rid of Rare as well, they're a waste of money. The most exciting thing i'm seeing from them is a Perfect Dark port to XBLA :|.

Move Lionhead on from Fable for a while, they're a creative studio which are a bit more a.i. focused, let them move around a bit.

MS really messed up with Bungie, they should have kept them happy, kept them 1st party and allowed them to move on from Halo for a while as well, if they can make a game as good as Halo 3 (imo) they can do a lot more.

That's a bit of a problem i'm seeing with MS, they see one dev as one franchise or type of game.

MS need to stop interfering too much as well, buy a studio and let them get on with what they do best, like Nintendo or Sony would (I think).
