oh my bad. ididn't even read the the link. Just saw what dante said and made a comment.I think MS may setp in and buy Epic. But IIRC MS and Epic has a deal to make Gears of war on the PC/Games for windows so even if EA buys Epic it wouldn't mean Gears going to the PS3.

Aw why not shooting the messenger is fun. You got to shoot something.
It wouldn't surprise me. After trying so hard to acquire Take Two, it's pretty logical to assume that they'd go after another company like Epic Games. We'll see what happens though.ZhengiThey didn't really try all that hard. Remember in the end it was EA that walked away from buying them, even at their original offer price.
If it happens we can basically call Gears 2(or 3) a multi-plat. For the love of god it better NOT happen. Damn EAStingerVXIIII don't think so EA would probably have to go through with Microsoft and Epic's deal the worse that happens is Gears of War 2 and 3 go Multiplat but not to other consoles just PC.
There have been so many rumors of M$ buying them as well and that hasnt happend either. M$ will buy them before they let someone else do it.

They didn't try that hard? They tried for almost half a year, every time extending the offer and actually going to the tables and speaking with the CEO of Take Two. They even tried to go to the stockholders and getting them to agree to the deal.
Unless maybe Epic doesn't actually want to make games for just one console. There have been so many rumors of M$ buying them as well and that hasnt happend either. M$ will buy them before they let someone else do it.

They made the offer to take two, then immediately extended the offer to the shareholders with a hard time limit when Take Two said 'talk to us again after GTA4 is out.' Nothing happened for a couple months. GTA4 released. The offer expired. Take Two said 'okay, now let's talk' and entered into discussions with EA where they laid everything on the table. EA looked at everything they had... and walked, not even willing to pay the initial price they offered. Take Two's stock dropped something like 25% in one day the instant EA walked. This was bad on T2, not on EA. Take Two WANTED to be bought by someone else in a more stable position at the time, and EA was perfect for it. And when they had a chance, EA said 'ew, nevermind.' http://www.forbes.com/home/2008/09/15/taketwo-ea-merger-tech-personal-cx_cm_0915taketwo.htmlI think this would be good, not because I care about Epic games, but because I don't want their engine to end up MS exclusive.mr_mozilla
If MS does buy them, it wouldnt make much business sense for them to keep UE exclusive because it is a major source of revenue.

The stocks dropped when 9/11 happened because ...9/11 happened. The stocks dropped when the deal failed because the deal failed.
...But the stocks go back up, thats how it works, just because Take-Two's stock went down doesn't mean it'll stay like that, it'll go back up to its normal amount after a couple weeks.
Take-Two is fine, they don't need someone to buy them right now, if they did they would've accepted.

I would agree if it was someone else, but I wouldn't put it past MS to sacrifice short term profits to try gain a stranglehold on gaming market. Not that this would grant them that, but it would be one step towards it.Edit
Also, EA could do much more with the engine than any other company, they own rights to so many IPs and have so vast resources that we would certainly see many great titles using UE.

EA did not extend the offer only once. They extended the offer multiple times. They wanted to get Take Two at that low price and they talked to Take Two after it became apparant they wouldn't accept another extension of their offer. The snag was that EA wanted to purchase T2 at around $25 a share and T2 was asking for about $27 a share. They even went to the, I believe FEC, to try to mediate a deal.
Both were interested, but couldn't agree on the price. EA held fast to their offer and extended it. T2 gambled as they tried to get a higher price from EA and they lost big time. Yeah, all that effort was just cause EA wanted to waste money and time.
In fact, there is more proof of EA looking to expand. The whole T2 thing happened after they acquired Bioware. EA is looking to expand.
I doubt it
Epic games is Microsofts money printer.
MS will buy Epic before that happens
killerfist
why? so Epic can turn into the next Rare?

Their biggest game has released - and didn't help, and the people running the studio of their biggest game are going to be free from their contract as of next year. What else do they have? You're again missing - read the article - "Take-Two will certainly continue discussions with other interested parties. Zelnick and the board have never made a secret out of the fact that they're interested in selling." EA is the one that walked away. Why? They saw something they didn't like, and if you actually read the Forbes article, others noticed that too. Once things make it that far in the process and publicly, it's rare for the buying party to change their mind and leave. And right after that, suddenly TTWO says they 'decided' to stay independent. How much you want to bet that it wasn't really their decision?
EA walked away because Take-Two asked for too much money, not because they suddenly lost interest.
And yes, stocks dropping is completely fine, you lack the vision for the big picture, stocks go down, they come back up, games are made, games are canned, thats how it is. The economy as a whole is slumping, and this is just part of it. Take-Two is fine. All they have to do is crap out a GTA every 2 years and they can survive forever.
All they have to do is crap out a GTA every 2 years and they can survive forever.angry_forkKeeping in mind - again - the GTA people are out of contract with TTWO this coming year. They're free to stay or go as they wish. Keeping them is going to be painful, IF they can keep them. What other games are they going to crap out? The article I linked that I don't think you read addressed that with TTWO's lack of yearly franchises to keep them afloat.
I guess this means Gears 2 is coming to PC, and maybe even PS3, after all, lemmings.dgsagDid you miss the part where it's a rumor?
I guess this means Gears 2 is coming to PC, and maybe even PS3, after all, lemmings.dgsagIt might not eventhough I don't care I hated Gears 1. I think Microsoft might own the rights also Microsoft and Epic have a deal up till the 3rd Game so Gears of War 2 will not be on the PS3 even if EA buys them because Microsoft already is Publishing it it will probably go to PC because Gears of War went to the PC just like almost all of Microsofts Shooters. So Gears of War 3 might be the only one that goes to another Console that is if Microsoft doesn't own the Franchise.
Jesus Christ, does EA ever quit trying to monopolize the industry? Seriously I'm getting sick of them. hopesfall2own
How is this monopolizing? They're just buying up independent developers. (rumored to be no less)
I'm in favor of it personally, but then again, I'm also a fan of EA in general.

I said they are trying to monopolize it. They've already got the NFL license to themselves. And they are constantly buying independents to put their name on even more games. If you can't see they aren't trying to monopolize the industry, then I don't know what to say. It's obvious.I said they are trying to monopolize it. They've already got the NFL license to themselves. Expanding and monopolizing are two radically different concepts. If EA is indeed attempting to monopolize the industry, it sure isn't obvious to me.
EA has a surplus of money, and is willing to invest it in independent developers, in an attempt to further expand their company, and thus, their profits. Every company on earth attempts a similar procedure. It's not monopolizing.

EA's CEO right now was the CEO of Bioware/Pandemic's owner two years ago. I'm betting his presence is a big part of their wanting to come to EA in the first place. Please Log In to post.
