http://www.examiner.com/video-game-in-national/rumor-nintendo-3ds-cracked-flash-cards-potentially-incoming

If rumors are to be believed, the future is looking dim for the Nintendo 3DS and the system hasn't even launched yet. Despite some negative feelings surrounding the said handheld due to a reported short battery life and region-locking, things are becoming somewhat worse. A group of hackers are saying they can produce flash cards and have cracked the system.

According to a post on Gamrade.com, a group of individuals have claimed to having a 3DS in their possession, analyzed it, and are certain they can create flash cards for the system. If they do have a 3DS in their hands, the chances of it being similar to the other units that have leaked are high, which means the system's OS has yet to be installed on the unit and makes these claims harder to fully believe.

Details are incredibly vague on this rumor and nothing may come from it. Let's hope this information remains a rumor and doesn't become truth. With restrictions like region-locking in place, though, hackers will be prone to the system.

I think we've learned something from this:

Don't piss off hackers.

Now if only Nintendo & Sony can get this.

But you have to admit SONY did give the hackers a hard time 4 years to hack a system is a great accomplishment :P.

Just like the DS ... Which sold how much million?

And the PS1, PS2, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC and now PS3.

Pirates don't seem to be hurting the industry THAT much.

hmm. we shall see. i dont doubt the 3DS will be cracked at some point mind...probably soon after launch. i dont think nintys track record on successfuly anti piracy on their consoles is good (nor anyone else bar sony with the PS3...though their other consoles fell fast enough). one thing the 3DS does have to its advantage that wasnt on the DS is upgradeable firmware. i know the DSI did have upgradeable firmware but the older ones didnt. so what may work for a while may stop working quickly enough. mind you ninty do seem to be taking a more positive approach to anti piracy.....just release good games and dont obsess over it. they mentioned something about some focus on security in future firmware development but most focus in that area will be on improving the device iver its life in various ways. oh and send their robot ninja lawyers after the distributors. anywho im ranting...itll be interesting to see how this battle pans out. good security was something devs mentioned about the 3DS...perhaps ninty do have a few tricks up their sleeves....or maybe it was just marketing. mind you boasting "we have crackin security" is just asking for trouble :S. in the long run i dont think ninty will win (no manufacturer does) but it may be good enough to put off casual thieves.

No way.. The thing isnt even out yet, we dont even know how the system is even going to work.. Nintendo has def. worked on some ways to fight piracy and hasnt said much other than some games might require software updates or something in order to play them and if crack systems connect to the internet nintendo can brick them. So, not sure this is true in any way

I do not believe it it's too early. But I guess a radom post by an anonymous source from a Chinese website gets a full editorial.

3ds does not have a short battery life lol ,5 hours with 3d and max settings is enough

and this wont hurt nintendo

heres why , ds sells alot ,

thats all they care about , is their strong sales,

and with the impressive line up theyll get those sales,

unlike psp , psp never had a strong line up ,

and psp only gets 3 hours max on a charge, without no 3d

lol so saying the 3ds has bad battery life is underestimating , ,

compared to a some what as powerful hardware 5 hours on 3d max brighntness is better then what it could achieve

Well, I'm not tracking down those threads, but I clearly remember some comments (even a topic title IIRC) with something along "time to pack your bags".

AND in all honesty, would it be really hard for you to believe the lems have said such a thing when (I think) you must be aware they kept looking for that actual final nail on Sony's coffin??

fake. how would a bunch of hackers get their hands on a 3DS before release date? Nintendo doesnt just give one out like that. Even if its true, which is unlikely, it wouldnt be much off a problem to 3DS owners. Flashcards have always existed for the DS, DSlite, and DSi. It wouldnt affect me if people pirate games, so how does this make the future of the 3DS look dim?

Well, piracy, while it hurts software sales, does lead to a significant surge in hardware sales worldwide. It's why the PSP managed to snab a significant portion of the handheld gaming market from the longtime GameBoy handheld king, Nintendo. It's why the PS2 is the best-selling console of all-time, and it's also why the PS3 is last in place, hardware unit sales wise, since launch. Watch PS3 units fly off shelves by Christmas 2011 because if it has been successfully pirated then, it would surely surpass 360 lifeteime sales in little time (which has been cracked for a long time now). Heck, the Wii has absolutely no protection from piracy: a simple tool is all that is required to play pirated titles on it. It is by and large the most easily-piratable home console in this generation of consoles (and lo and behold, it also happens to have the most unit sales!).

the problem there for sony and MS at least is that they dont make much money off the hardware. at launch the sell them at significant losses (sony was losing 200 a pop on the PS3 at launch i think) and make it back on the games. however if people only buy the hardware and dont buy software then its not good for MS or sony..there just taking losses. nott o mention that games also have to pay for themselves....if games make no money then games dont get made. its not so bad for ninty has they do sell their hardware at a profit. but again games need to pay for themselves and justify the investment. not that im saying piracy is so bad that its just killing the games industry and no games are selling. but the thinking of "but the hardware sells which is great for the manufacturer and enough to allow piracy scot free" doesnt quite work out.

Probably, but this specific group initiated a full on attack on the PS3 due to the single fact that Sony "stole" from them, stole the ability to use linux.

The only people who believe that live in la-la land. The PS3 was "hacked" years ago but the hack that people are talking about is hacking the system to play pirated games, which is only a recent development for the PS3. It has absolutely nothing to do with Sony "pissing hackers off" like some people would claim. That's just an excuse.

fake. how would a bunch of hackers get their hands on a 3DS before release date? Nintendo doesnt just give one out like that. Even if its true, which is unlikely, it wouldnt be much off a problem to 3DS owners. Flashcards have always existed for the DS, DSlite, and DSi. It wouldnt affect me if people pirate games, so how does this make the future of the 3DS look dim? NintendoNite
Exactly, this message came from an anonymous group from China. If you try an go onto their site where they originally posted the message it now shows an extremely creepy picture of a zombie popping up at you.

I can believe this is true...but not in the way people are thinking.

It will be very easy to create a flashcard for the system...that plays pirated software created for the original DS. That will happen very quickly.

Cracking the system to allow play of of pirated DSi and 3DS software..is a very different matter.

I really doubt this. The 3DS that was snagged from the factory was said to not have any software loaded on it, so if they did get one of their own, what the hell did they hack?

[QUOTE="mariokart64fan"]

Robbazking

3-5 hours ;)

Well DSi on max settings was 2-4 hours battery life but if you turn off the brightness and turn off Wifi you will get better Battery life then the DSi on full which was 9 hours maybe more. I will probably do that I always have the brightness off on my handhelds.
