Rumor: Sledgehammers Call of Duty game will take place...in space?! WHAT?!

This is just a rumor but here are the details.

Sledgehammer is being lead by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, both of whom worked on Dead Space, and their new game will "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre." And while this is far from confirmed, we're hearing that it might be the long-rumored "Call of Duty in space." In the meantime, 1UP's sources tell us that Infinity Ward will continue handling the recently announced Modern Warfare 2 map packs as well as future downloadable content, though plans beyond that are unclear.

Also, here's some more detail on what might've happened at IW:

BingeGamer has reported that Zampella and West were shopping a new IP with a rival publisher, and indeed our source told us that the team was "supposed to know what our next IP would be on Monday." Instead, he said, "we found a bunch of bouncers at our doors."

Activision also wanted Modern Warfare 3 from Infinity Ward, our source told us, but that the team "wasn't too thrilled about that idea."

If this is for real, I wonder who's stupid idea it was to make a sci-fi action/adventure game and just slap on the name Call of Duty on it for brand recognition!

This made me remember the fond times of BF 2142 , the best FPS evah , IMO of course :P , breaking through enemy gunships was just awesome.

On topic I don't like how GH'ish the CoD series is being slowly(??) transformed.

I'm all for the idea of a futuristic Call of duty, but going as far as interstellar travel wouldn't exactly work.

The only genre left, when CoD becomes like GH (Or is it already??), will be party games..... However, CoD Party may also be released soon :P

Behold, the death of Activision's second to last cash cow (with the last being Warcraft).

Producers give "notes" to the creators of "Farscape" and "Battlestar Galactica," two crtically-acclaimed shows, and manage to derail both shows leading to one getting cancelled before it was over and the other sliding pretty far from the heights of quality it had held before limping to its end...

Sound familiar? It hurts when gamers have to realize that our favored entertainment industry is really no different than any other. It's the suits and the publishers that screw the whole thing up for the consumers.

Stuff like this just makes me wonder whether digital distribution, e.g. Steam, really isn't the wave of the future. I imagine that West and Zampella's original deal with Activision back in '03 was about securing a publisher and distributor, which is why they granted Activision the option to purchase the remaining common stock shares...and which wound being responsible for their just losing the company.

If IW had been able to digitally distribute and advertise effectively back in '03, perhaps they never would have signed on with a publisher the way they did, and none of this would have happened.........

Wouldn't surprise me. Every iteration of the game seems to try to get more and more unrealistic and arcady. The next CoD will probably be called "Unreal Warfare"

Man i just wanna see how bad they can go with this franchise. i liked the treyarch games since activision actually gave them time to develop the games it was a great thing unlike the 8 months they gave them to produce call of duty 3. But if this new game does take place in space i would ROTFLMAOcopter to the moon and back.
