Rumor: Sony Makes Huge Exclusivity Deal

Rumor has it that Sony is going to be announcing some sort of exclusivity arrangement at E3.

We have received a tip from a source close to the gaming community that Sony plans on announcing something at E3 that will be on the scale of "when Sony announced GTA: San Andres' timed exclusivity". However, our source was also keen to note that because they used GTA as an example, it did NOT mean this was going to be a game from Rockstar. They also did not specify whether this was a timed exclusivity agreement, a "stolen" former exclusive to another console, or just an exclusive high profile third party title (and no, it isn't Agent). The last time we heard a rumor on exclusivity, or in this case, lack thereof, they hit the nail dead on the head over a year in advance of the actual announcement (Click the here to read that rumor).

Here is the actual quote:

"For this year E3 I've got just one hint. Do you remember the E3 where Sony anounced they have GTA: San Andreas as a time-exclusive deal? Expect huge bombs at this E3. I used GTA as an EXAMPLE - it does not mean Sony will anounce anything from R* !! I just meant what they announce will be as huge as the gta deal - you get it right ?"

While we have no idea of what the actual game is, all we can speculate is possibly Final Fantasy 14 (It was announced as a PS3 exclusive last E3, but Square did say they were considering other consoles.), or possibly Grand Theft Auto 5. Maybe even Metal Gear Solid Rising. What do you think it could be? Share your thoughts in our forums!

I guess GTA 5 DLC timed exclusive. If that happen it would be amazing the amout of cows changing their tune about GTA DLC.

Gah, I hate these rumours. Now we have to wait until E3 to find out whether it's true and what game it is.

Maybe something from Bioware. Didn't they say that they like to work on PS3 and have something in production? And people speculated Mass Effect, but maybe it's a new IP.

Oh well. It'll be multiplat anyway.

That's what they supposedly said, but Bioware haven't done anything on the PS3 yet. Dragon Age was outsourced to Edge of Reality for the console ports, so aside from the token assistance they may have provided, they have little experiance.

I hope Timed Exclusives aren't the industries future, that means less games will be created, and that money will be funnelled into these 3rd Party Timed deals.
I would rather that game be multiplat and release, and I get another game as well.

That way we all GET TWO GAMES, instead of one.

I'm gonna go ahead and speculate either Resident Evil 6 or Max Payne 3. If Sony is breaking deals like this, they usually go big time so I suspect it'll be something along the lines of a pretty big multi-plat game that no one suspects to be picked up in an exclusive (or timed-exclusive) deal.

I only read the first post, but where does it say it is a exclusivity deal? All it says is it will be a huge announcement. Could be something like announcing Gears or Mass Effect coming to PS3.

Surprise! A Grand Theft Auto wasn't exclusive!

Yeah, that's not really something to become credible over. Everyone besides 360 fanboys knew this because the only two exclusive Grand Theft Auto games are GTA: London and GTA: Advance. One for the PC, the other for the GBA. People thinking it was going to remain exclusive are as foolish as the people thinking Agent is going to remain a full exclusive, sort of like how they thought L.A. Noire was going to be an exclusive as well. Rockstar doesn't do exclusives and the few that they have are on handhelds, not consoles.

Actually, another possibility would be something from Team Ninja. Now that Itagaki's gone, there won't be such a push for Xbox, so maybe the next Ninja Gaiden or DoA?
