Rumor: Xbox One to launch November 8th

The PlayStation 4 is out in the US on November 15. The Xbox One? Well, it's looking like it could hit the market a week ahead of its competitor.

While Microsoft is yet to officially announce the big day, and "release dates" on retailer sites are usually little more than window dressing, we've heard from someone a little closer to the launch that Microsoft is planning a November 8 release for its latest console.

The source, who works for a marketing company that handles signage and product placement for retail giant Walmart, passed along what they say is an email for a company conference call that lists all the midnight openings the chain has planned.

As you can see, alongside the big holiday games, and just before the PS4, is the Xbox One, at November 8. Note however that, unlike every other date listed, the Xbox One's lacks a "confirmed" status, suggesting Microsoft is yet to lock the date down.

The fact it's not locked down of course means the day could change, but it also suggests it's a recent decision. Almost as though Microsoft were waiting for Sony to commit to a day before scheduling their own launch, in order to get the jump on the PS4...

If that's true then I don't understand why MS wouldn't announce the launch date at Gamescom.

They're leaving it a little too late if the rumors correct no?

Would be smart of MS to do that and it's balanced too, I can imagine what it would be like if it came out AFTER the PS4...

IDK what to make of the release dates. On one hand I feel like the date could be the tipping point for many people to choose one over the other. On the other hand both consoles will surely be sold out through 2013 anyway. I think they'd both best practice on the proper marketing of the games and services at this point

Also getting as many units out before Christmas would probably be a good idea.

1 week makes no difference whatsoever. Hell for the first month it will be difficult to find one of these consoles in the wild.

Releasing 1 year before like 360 did, that made a difference.

Its more about the casual appeal. A highly successful launch would generate appeal and demand - plus launching first would wrangle in some of the buyers who are looking for early Christmas presents or those that just want to buy one "next-gen" gaming console early.

yeah last gen 360 had a full year head start and was $200 cheaper console.

This time XBONE would have a one week head start and be $100 more expensive.

so yeah i highly doubt this would make Sony "screwed" as some lems are hoping for..

IT's a little worrisome for me if M$ which still hasn't even announced their release date would just rush it a week before the PS4 just to beat them at it. Sounds like something would go incredibly wrong... they should release it when they're ready regardless of their competitors. If something goes wrong they'll suffer for it.

This won't make a difference, especially because most of the sales have already been determined by preorders.

The pandemonium for Xbox Nation aka USA will be huge.

Hmmm, hadn't heard anything about that date, but I see nothing wrong with it. From my view point, the earlier is not better, but then again I know things...

Anyway, I think it doesn't matter much at all when the console launches. The initial shipment will sellout, then Sony will come out a week later. The biggest hurdle will always be the extra $100. Hopefully the CoD bundle they have for NA comes with the game, should allow them to benefit from CoD launching that week.

Now that I think about it, the Xbox One coming out a 7days prior on a friday makes no sense. The 360 came out on November 22nd (a tuesday), and the Xbox came out on a thursday. The PS3 came out on a friday, Nov. 17 here in the US.  Why would MS release the Xbox One the week of CoD:Ghosts but not have it on launch day? That makes zero sense. Chances are if the consoles are already being shipped to stores on that week, it can probably meet the schedule and release day and date with CoD. They would maximize sales interest and make the Xbox One the official home of next-gen CoD, something i'm sure they'd love.

FYI, as of 6:18 AM Eastern Time, there remains 79 days, 18 hours, and 42 minutes until the PS4 is released. Can't wait.

Still it will not beat PS4 in sales on launch. PS4 is launching in a lot of countries, while Xbone is coming to 21 countries. I don't understand why they would delay it in scandinavia, there's lots of Xbox fans here. Oh well, it's just convincing them to get a PS4 instead.
