Source

Here's a doozy of a rumour for you: Metal Gear Solid (the PS1 classic) is being remade (again) and it's coming to PS5 and PC. This is according to YouTube channel RedGamingTech, which has been known to provide some accurate leaks in the past, although they specialise in hardware information rather than software.

Still, according to their source — a source that apparently has a 100 per cent track record up to this point — this supposed Metal Gear Solid revival is a full remake, not just some kind of port or remaster.

The source also states that Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and 4 are all being re-released, but it sounds like they're set to be remasters rather than full remakes. It's unclear whether they're coming to PS5 as well, or whether they're just targeting PC.

Thats fantastic news. I was hoping for MGS4 remastered and MGS1 full remake.

@ghosts4ever: Shits on Sony for movie games, then cheers for MGS4 with a 71 minute long sequence of cutscenes.

MGS1 for its time was great and for console standard it was masterpiece.

MGS1 will get too much advantage from full fledge remake.

How would you perform MGS2 and 3's pressure sensitive functions with a PS5 controller?

Im just hype for MGS1 full remake.

MGS1 had amazing story held back by outdated gameplay even for 1998 standard. full on remake is win win.

wanna see next gen version of solid snake.

They already did that with Twin Snakes and it made the game a whole lot easier. Unless they redesign entire parts, I don't see this working too well.

Just make a HD collection.

MGS on PS1 was basically the first so-called "movie game" you shit on constantly.

And nope, the gameplay was far from dated back in 90's -> it's a safe bet you played that game with a guide, right?

1 - In MGS you had to actually use your brain (or a walkthrough)

2 - Hardware limitations are to blame

Would be super interested in the MGS1 remake since i've never played it. But if they do remake it, it better be on par with Demon's when it comes to quality. If its a quick money grab, they can buzz off.

If they did another MGS1 remake, I'd like it to remain faithful. Improve the controls, the graphics, the music, but keep the same story, same (but better) cutscenes, and same gameplay.

But you know they won't.

Would love to play MGS 4 again, this time on PC. It's already playable on emulators but they are way too demanding atm. Gotta say, the game still looks great. Lower resolutions on PS3 didn't do it justice. Native ports on PS5 and PC will really make it shine.

If true, it’s about f’king time..... I like the fact that it’s ps5 and pc only. I wonder who exactly would handle the remake, I know it’s always been Konami, but they might rely on another studio....we shall see.

And nope, the gameplay was far from dated back in 90's -> it's a safe bet you played that game with a guide, right?

Kind of an asshole term (love to use whenever possible) but not sure agree with that, even in realm of Kojima with stuff like Snatcher.

Probably attribute that to adventure games, specifically Cinemaware.

MGS was one of the games that popularized it, for sure. Although the writing is a joke, it's overall presentation was very much ahead of other console games.

A lot of people point to this and Halflife but Homeworld deserves credit as well. In actuality, it done "shitty movie game" way better than Metal Gear Solid, to the point that it still holds up today even without the remaster.

Movie game is a great term. There's a huge difference in the amount of player agency between the MGS games and Uncharted. The former gives you so many ways to get to the other end of an area and doesn't constantly wrestle control away from you during gameplay. I definitely prefer cutscenes over the type of forced walking and linear, scripted, automated climbing stuff that's prevalent now. MGS and Uncharted are both movie games, but MGS is also more of a game.

An MGS4 remaster sounds nice. Runs like crap on PS3. Having 2 and 3 would be nice as well.

Only played MGS1 one time in 2010 and didn't much care for it, however I'd be interested in a full blown remake - FF7 style... if it's just cosmetic then meh.

MGS is casual movie game franchise for casual bandodgers like sniper4321. only idiot would create thread about this.

@ghosts4ever: Shits on Sony for movie games, then cheers for MGS4 with a 71 minute long sequence of cutscenes.

Well those movie games have outscore pretty much everything in the way lately including Bethesda games.😂

Would be super interested in the MGS1 remake since i've never played it. But if they do remake it, it better be on par with Demon's when it comes to quality. If its a quick money grab, they can buzz off.

And you call your self a gamer.😮

You didn't miss much, and casual4ever is shilling it and its story, what more do you need to know.

How come you've never played it, wasn't even born when it came out?

Back then it was one of the best damn game ever made, what the hell are you on now?

Casual? The game was as hardcore as it can be.

Let me guess you were one of those crying Sega fan with nothing to play and crying because you were not getting the game.

They'd be better of marketing the series as a cure for insomnia.

I'm not really interested in MGS 2 and 3, I still have the ps2 copies and the ps3 remasters. I already played those games a lot. MGS4 would really benefit from a remastering as the ps3 version is showing age. I enjoyed it a lot but I would not buy it again (my ps3 is still working and conected to the TV). Now, the remake of MGS1 is something else, if they do it in the style of FF7, it would be great.

We'll see but this isn't a favorite series of mine.

Being on a Dino Crisis remake/reboot.

Dino crisis remake/reboot only in style of RE7/8 First person. I would welcome.

@ghosts4ever: F**k that s**t with a stick! No! RE2/3 style would be the only way to do it right. Keep your s**ty first person style away from it.

MGS on PS1 was basically the first so-called "movie game" you shit on constantly.

And nope, the gameplay was far from dated back in 90's -> it's a safe bet you played that game with a guide, right?

Kind of an asshole term (love to use whenever possible) but not sure agree with that, even in realm of Kojima with stuff like Snatcher.

Probably attribute that to adventure games, specifically Cinemaware.

MGS was one of the games that popularized it, for sure. Although the writing is a joke, it's overall presentation was very much ahead of other console games.

A lot of people point to this and Halflife but Homeworld deserves credit as well. In actuality, it done "shitty movie game" way better than Metal Gear Solid, to the point that it still holds up today even without the remaster.

Movie games were around for a long time. There were the Sega CD games in the early '90s. And before that, there were the laserdisc arcade games in the '80s. But before all of them, the first "movie game" was invented way back in 1974... by Nintendo of all companies.

...Certainly not the kind of game you'd expect Nintendo to make nowadays.

Still, it was in the late '90s when "movie games" started to be taken seriously. This was largely due to Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid and Half-Life demonstrating that it's possible to present an engaging cinematic story while delivering fun gameplay at the same time. They didn't sacrifice gameplay like earlier "movie games" did. This is what paved the way for modern "movie games" to take off.
