I was able to play the xbox at a preview event a while back. Played Ryse, DR3, and Forza. All were smooth, very fun, the controller was ace, the eco-system/UI I felt was cool, new, fresh, etc. In short I was impressed. I really enjoyed Ryse. Yes it's simple but the combat has that fun factor that makes you want to keep playing.
Now I like many here (most people it seems) have been buying into the negative stories and internet buzz but I never considered cancelling my pre-order because I played the system and knew it was good. But more-so I was buying into the idea that the ps4 was "all that," but I wanted to play it before I judged it, which I was able to do today at Best Buy. I was able to play the Knack demo, check out the UI and use the much praised ds4. Knack was awful. Yea it's got nice crisp graphics but it was boring, stale, old, i don't know just wasn't feeling anything about it. The UI? wow, plain, generic, snoozefest. Will it let you play games simply and to the point? Yep. Great. It blows.
Now the biggest surprise to me was the ds4. Now I have heard time and time again, mostly by people that haven't touched it, that this was the best controller ever made. Child please. This thing felt incrimentaly better than the ds3. it had a little more weight, the triggers were nothing special and the sticks, lord the sticks...I'm sorry but this thing still feels clumsy as hell. Just like the ds3. You can not play a fps with any confidence with this. Until Sony pulls head out and moves the left stick up where it belongs I will never like this thing. In the end I felt it was just a slightly better version of a crap controller (ds3).
In the end this made me realize that it really boils down to what is fun (duh). I felt that fun factor when playing the x1. The ps4 felt flat, yea it's got that 1080 but what it doesn't have is the fun. Maybe that will change when more games come out but multiplats are going to the x1 for me. Online, controller, eco-system, fun factor. I still have the ps4 pre-ordered through Amazon but I'll def be selling it and making some money for games.
