http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/11/exclusive-sony-ericsson-to-introduce-android-3-0-gaming-platfor/

So what do you think, could this beat the 3DS?

I personlally think this could get the iphone market but the 3DS market is already sold on the 3DS.

Regardless I'll be getting this just because it has Gingerbread.

ok if i wanted a game phone hybrid i think ngage is cheaper ! haha , point is, it will fail ,,

just like ngage and ngage qd ,, which were by nokia a well known company!

so dont even bother mention but sony is popular, ,

cause right now nintendo owns the market for the most part

sony only holds like 15 percent of the pie and iphone 5 percent and nintendo 80 percent lol

This is the right move by Sony has phone gaming is the future of portable gaming, whether you gamers like it or not. Everyone wants an all-in one device. Not two devices to carry around. 3DS will one day become a 3DS phone.

i know i know, but if you're gonna pay for two years of cell phone service anyway, you might as well get something decent with your contract and a psp phone would be pretty awesome imo

No thanks, I don't like paying 50 bucks a month just to play games on a phone. There's a place for handhelds today, and that's why a product like the 3DS will always be in demand, just like how there are still digital cameras on sale, despite the fact that the iPhone 4 has a 5 megapixel camera with built-in flash.

that doesnt mean that the iphone is not a better product because it has a camera. some people will use the iphone as their camera. And why would you have to pay to play the games that you already bought, you would only have to pay for use of the sim card.

I would totally buy a PSPhone. Hopefully, the PSPhone isn't just a phone that plays PSP Go games, but rather a next generation handheld with better graphics and CPU power (and a second analog stick). I think Sony could find a very good niche for the PSP if it's able to straddle the line between the DS and the iPhone. It would be more convenient than carrying multiple devices around, and it would also be much better suited for games than the iPhone. Also, imagine the possibilities of online 3G/4G gaming! Imagine having an MMORPG in your pocket!

If all consumers cared about was getting all their eggs in one basket, home computers should have replaced consoles in the 80s.

You're going to have to lower your standards a bit, buddy. Don't even expect PS3-like graphics on a handheld with 30 hours of battery life anytime soon.

For a lot of people, they replaced consoles and their home media players with powerful PCs a long time ago. Personally I prefer gaming on a console, but as far as handheld devices go, I like the idea of having it all crammed into one intuitive device. I only have so many pockets, after all.

^^ this ^^ I still don't really mind if it's just a PSP in the form of a cellphone and not next-gen device though. 3G/4G tech will prevent piracy anyway. But it'll be better if it is. No more being mocked by my friends for being an honest gamer who purchase the games legally!

Expanding their horizons, filling gaps, strengthening a supposedly weak brand (Ericsson), etc. As the article states, Sony has yet to introduce an Android phone. If true, this is just them going all-out. At their press conference (which your dearth of emblems suggests you didn't watch), they announced that instead of making a PSP2, they would put more work into pushing the PSP brand. Why would they announce that if they were actually going to ditch it and go for another market instead?

so i have to watch it on gamespot? trust me my account proves nothing i barely update it in the first place.

second yea they are expanding their horizons because they are not doing that well in the handheld department by itself so they thought of an alternative its smart business(which sony lacks).

so they are going for the gaming phone market which the iphone is making very popular which is a different market because its not a direct competitor to a handheld like the 3DS.

it doesn't have to beat nintendo to be successful. I think it just needs to push up current PSP sales and create a new phone segment, which it will do.

Except this basically is a droid (in that it's a smartphone running on Android OS) that fixes the big gaping hole that all smartphones have when it comes to gaming: it has buttons designed for gaming. If I was in the market for a smartphone, this would definitely be way above iPhone, blackberry, or other brand android phones.

If it could run PSP Go software as well, that'd be complete and utter epicness.

That's not how it works. By competing with both the 3DS and the iPhone, Sony can attract both the people who want a handheld but not the 3DS, and the people who want a Smartphone but not the iPhone. By posing the PSPhone as an alternative to both, Sony will be able to secure a market share that neither of its competitors can effectively tap on its own. With the 3DS, you still need to carry a phone around to make calls. With iPhone, it sucks for games because it has no buttons. PSPhone can take the best of both, plus add Android apps. I'm about due to upgrade my phone anyway so this news couldn't come at a better time.

gaming will be the downfall, smartphone prices are going up. with all those features it would cost more than the iphone. a 3 year plan would probably be like $250-$300
