Welcome to the Rumour mill, VideoGamer.com's run-down of the big rumours currently doing the rounds in the video game industry. Every week we'll hunt down the juiciest stories and give our opinion on how legit they are. So, whether you want the ridiculous or the plausible, read on.
Gears of War 2 on November 15The Rumour: Leading internet retailer Amazon.com has listed Gears of War 2 for release on Xbox 360 on November 15.
Verdict: Neither Epic Games nor Microsoft has said anything on the inevitable sequel to monster hit Gears of War, but November 15, 2008 would be two years after the release of the first game - more than long enough to produce a sequel. Microsoft needs a triple-A title for the Christmas period and this will probably be it. It might not be released on that exact day, but expect it in November.
Plausibility rating: 4/5
God of War 3 only a year awayThe Rumour: Next winter is looking like being one to remember for video game fans. Sony's Santa Monica studio is said to be hard at work on Kratos' next-gen debut. Expect this to be one of the most hyped PlayStation 3 games to date.
Verdict: While we don't think this is quite as likely as Gears 2, by late 2008 a next-gen God of War will be due. Given the release of the PSP exclusive Chains of Olympus earlier in 2008, hack 'n' slash fans will be ready for more.
Plausibility rating: 3/5
Mass Effect coming to PS3The Rumour: Speaking while on panel show Bonus Round, industry analyst Michael Pachter gave his opinion on where Mass Effect will end up in the future - not only on the Xbox 360. "Trust me, Electronic Arts, when they threw out the 300 million that is multiplatform that is not 360 only... I wouldn't be shocked if Mass Effect 1 came to PlayStation 3."
Verdict: While we believe that Mass Effect will find its way to the PlayStation 3 at some point, it won't be until the Xbox 360 has seen a period of exclusivity. So, yes to the rumour, but Xbox 360 fans needn't worry too much.
Plausibility rating: 5/5
LA Noire not until 09The Rumour: Take Two released its results for the fourth quarter of its financial year. Missing on a forecast for titles for 2008 is Rockstar's LA Noire, causing people to believe that the secretive title won't be out until 2009.
Verdict: While it's true that the game is missing from the forecast, Rockstar's financial year runs from November 1st to October 31st, meaning LA Noire could still see a release in November or December 2008.
Plausibility rating: 3/5
