Rumour: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Prequel

A source within the industry who has previously leaked other information when I was writing for Xboxic (leaks include confirming Black Op's March 2010, Naming Kinect before E3 May 2010, First Gears 3 Images April 2010, amongst others) has informed me that an upcoming Call of Duty title from Infinity Ward will not be created on an all new game engine, and will not be released this year under the title of Modern Warfare 3!

It has been alleged that Infinity Ward are creating a game that will focus on the character Ghost who first appeared in Modern Warfare 2, this game will centre around the events leading up to the war in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as a prequel, and then further reveal how Ghost first became a member of Task Force 141 based on the comic book stories written by David Lapham. In various parts of the game that will focus on the life of Ghost - players will revisit locations from both Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, but this time from a different viewpoint.

Although entirely a rumour - the game is meant to be in development on the Modern Warfare 2 engine. Robert Bowling (Infinity Ward's Community Manager) was contacted, but has neither confirmed or denied the rumours.

When an official announcement from both Activision and Infinity Ward is made regarding the Call of Duty title currently in development - we'll be sure to post it.

I was going to say that going back to the MW universe was pointless and desperate, until I saw that Infinity Ward was developing it.

That makes the first idea look good.

Decent premise. I'm not sure about the game though. We'll have to see it first. :P

Dunno why even tho i havent been a massive fan of CoD the past few games, i think Cpt Price is a really good character and generally everything British :P

I'm merely commenting how COD4's universe isn't really unique or deep enough for these kind of stories to be interesting. Not to mention Ghost is as shallow as a puddle.

A prequel? Oh come on, that's just milking. Make Modern Warfare 3, finish that franchise on a high note, then move on FFS. Do something innovative and new in 3 years. If this is true then we know the next game after will have to be MW3 due to MW2's ending...

Regardless, there are still the strong rumors regarding the third person shooter Call of Duty in space by Sledgehammer which I have heard time and time again, and were recently re-reported in PCG.

wouldn't mind it really, ghost is a pretty cool dude, not sure why they had to do what they did in MW2.

if it retains the spirit of COD 4 and its perfected mixture of high octane combat and setpieces, i'm in for another.

With IW being a shell of its formal self I can see this being the first in a long line of nails that will be hammered into the CoD coffin. Really a prequel what an awesome idea guys!!! Like it was mentioned before in the thread lets use all are old ingame assets from past levels slightly mix them up and BAM we gota whole new game for people to run out and buy... I can see the multiplayer now all the old Favs from the past two MW games with a new coat of paint...
