Reliable sources spill the beans on Factor 5's new project...

Our friends over at Kombo have heard word that a new Kid Icarus title is being developed from the ground-up exclusively for Wii. Development is in the hands of Rogue Squadron experts Factor 5, once exclusive to Nintendo.

This would tie in to news we reported on a week ago, which stated that the development team had patched up relations with Ninty and were back on board the Wii.

The boy angel was last seen seventeen years ago in 1991 on the Game Boy in Kid Icarus: Of Myths And Monsters, though his status in Smash Bros. Brawl as a playable character is likely to raise his profile somewhat. Treat this as rumour until we hear something more definite - N-Europe will bring the latest as it breaks.

Kid Icarus was great back in the day, it's one of the FEW games I think a remake will tarnish.

upon reading the thread title, i immediately thought of pilot wings

but Kid Icarus is much more appealing to me

i've got little doubt that one's being made, i just hope it's good .. it'll be an introduction to the series for me, and for a lot of others, so it really needs to be exceptional to make newcomers a fan of the game, so that they can create a successful new-gen series

i just hope it's not a straightforward fligt sim/shooter like rogue squadron, with Pit replacing the spacecrafts

one thing that is expected though is great graphics

i'm a bit concerned about gameplay though .. just look at how lair turned out. no doubt this will use motion-controls in a similar way

being optimistic though, nintendo won't let anyone ruin one of their franchises, and they'll have more input into the development than sony prob had with lair

i hope shigsy decides to get involved too

if they get this right, it could be another revival, similar to that of metroid with prime 1

It wasn't great back in the day either, even then it was a failed effort.

The game just wasn't good and tried to cover it up with making it incredibly hard.

The thing is that the Virtual Console hurt the franchise the most. For years people heard about this great game back in the day that was just amazing. Well it comes to the Virtual Console and everyone downloads it then exclaims "This is it???" and you had a lot of unhappy buyers.

Has nothing to do with that...Lair could of been a great game, controls screwed it up. Other then that it was pretty good.

Ok, that's like saying that car could have been great except if the engine worked.

Controls are the main thing that separates a movie from a game, when that's broken a whole lot is broken.

They should give it to Retro and have them do something magical to it. Make it all mature-like.helium_flash

oh yes. a proper sequal to lylat wars. i think factor 5 could do a great job on that. pilot wings too certainly.

The only reason I pay any attention to them is because they were an Amiga developer and made Turrican back in the day.

i would actually love to see the starfox series become a bit more like freespace. still all in space and it has alot of shooting but also has huge capital ships knocking seven shades of crap out of each other and far more epic levels. control wise, its certainly doable and i think, if done right, it could be a really amazing game with a far bigger scope than an on rails shooter.

Factor 5 knows graphics, and even if the game wouldnt be great it would still look great (for a Wii game that is). So it could function as a slap in the face and motivation for all other Wii devs.

The Rogue Squadron series was brilliant, that's 3 games that I know of...
