Next to Half-Life and Halo, it's probably the most recognizable name in FPS gaming: Unreal. As most every avid gamer knows, Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 is easily one of the most anticipated games of the new generation, and now, we learn the PS3 and PC versions will release ahead of the Xbox 360 version. Oooh, big news for PS3 owners; getting such a huge timed exclusive.

The rumor began a few days ago, and initially met with much resistance. After all, Epic has produced Gears of War, a 360 exclusive and arguably the best game on the system. Furthermore, their past comments regarding Sony's next-gen system haven't been exactly glowing. But thanks to that recent Geoff Keighley interview on GameTrailers yesterday, this rumor was proven true; Unreal Tournament 3 will be a timed console exclusive.

The reason? Well, Keighley said it's because Sony is allowing user-created mods for the game, and Microsoft thinks it could be used to "undermine" their Xbox Live service. The 360 version will come out at a later date after "they resolve some issues." That implies there's more than one issue, so we'll have to keep an eye on this...and also, how long is this "timed" exclusive? At last check, the game was scheduled for a January 2008 release (Q3 2007 in Europe), so do we have an update on this?

Guess we'll have to wait on the details. But for now, this is pretty good news for PS3 owners. UT 3 will kick much ass, guaranteed."

I predict one of these would happen:

1) Less then a month after PC/PS3 release for PS3. Maybe even another grand Haze "timed exclusive" for a week.

2) The 360 version will be either on par with the PS3 in terms of modability, or it will surpass it.

3) The 360 gets an exclusive mode and/or maps.

Ubisoft made a mistake with saying Haze was only exclusive for a week. They have since removed Haze 360 from their list of upcoming games.

As for the Half Life 2 I wouldn't hold my breath. Valve isn't so found of the PS3 and I think PS3 is lucky to be getting the game at all. I don't see timed exclusivity in the cards there.

Pointless really, because if you want mods, you'd have to go with PC. I can just imagine PSN and Live charging for them.

Considering the article said Microsoft didn't want modding as it could hurt their online product, 2 wont happen. 3 I can see happening easily, but then if you are a lemming, which I don't know if you are, you are going against one of your major arguments 'ALL TEH PS3 GAMERS ALWAYS SAYING WAIT, BUT US XBOX GAMERS DON'T HAVE TO WAIT, WE GOT GAMEZ NOW!', and now the lemmings have to wait. no console wise it is a timed exclusive. pc is not a console anyway if this is true that makes ut3 and haze two games that 360 has to wait for. haze is still exclusive for the ps3. but it wont show up on the 360 until 08. watch lemmings come in with but teh games suck anyway

But Geoff Keighley did talk about a big name game releasing on PS3 before 360 because of this mod issue.

And it was documented in the past that Sony is allowing user created mods for UT3, but MS isn't.

So we have to decide if Geoff is trustable.

Highly doubt this is true... but if it is, what is the fuss about? In the case of Ps3... there are NOOOO games. It only benefits publishers to rush games out that may have several problems they intend to fix later. Go ahead and rush all the games you want. when UT3 comes out, I will be excited to play it...but there are literally too many big titles coming out this fall on the xbox. While the PS3s actually release list is quite void of any quality shooters. How can one possible deal with having halo 3, mass effect, bio shock, UT3, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey all before christmas? Epic can take as long as they want with UT3, I wont have time to play it until 2008.Bdking57

I will deal with it by playing on my PS3 THIS FALL the following: UT3( timed eclusive), Ninja GAiden Sigma, Uncharted Drakes fortune, MGS4, Haze(timed exclusive), Folkore, GRAW 2 with new MAPS, RV6 with new levels FREE of charge, Tekken 5 online, Ratchet and Clank tools of destruction, Warhawk, Socom Confrontation, Killzone 2!

Remember that map (really good one, that is used alot today on servers) where theres a secret spot with Female Models on the wall , I was like .... wtf isnt this an official map? (it wasnt) but damn it felt like one ... excellent layout and top-notch graphics like any other official map.... with that little easter egg ;)

Funny...They havent brought up anything on if the mods will be directly compatible with Ps3. It will allow it...But with a split 2x 256 ram...Or how about working with the Cell? Funny...Those mods could just turn out to be a dud and to be honest...If that happens. Wouldn't they have PC only servers then? So pretty much PS3 users could just get kicked in the corner but...heya...They get the mods!!! they haven't said anything about...Can the PS3 actually compete with a PC? Can it run the stuff?
