I see nothing wrong with devs 'copying' good concepts/ideas from an established series, and implement them in their own games...
As long as devs then put their own original ideas / gameplay elements, its normal to take inspiration from other titles...

I agree. When a FPS comes out and does something different (ie Forge in Halo 3 and the abiltiy to record matches) and is praised for it... I expect that feature to be a normal thing now for FPS games. Just like how when there were multiple football games, if one company did something new, EVERYONE would blatantly copy it for their next game and introduce their own new features.
I think stuff like that helps gaming. Rather than keep making the same old same old, at least you have linear progression and over time its like all the new games are doing there genres better than all the old ways. I don't think Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 are going to be surpassed until there is a Halo 4 and another Infinity Ward Call of Duty.
Smash Brothers and Halo 3 added in recordable matches... that should now be a standard feature. Theres no way a Wii game should be blowing away everybody else in terms of features. If Smash can save and record matches, why the hell can't Soul Caliber 4 do that? Halo 2 added in support for clans and detailed stat tracking... this should be a standard feature of every online game made after Halo 2.
Companies let innovation from the competition die by the wasteside. Maybe its foolish pride or something.
[QUOTE="SuperIntendent"][QUOTE="yakk_3"]As soon as the option to download disks to the harddrive and play them from there becomes avaliable, the people who use it will find their harddrives very, very full.Jaysonguy
I never heard of XBOX doing this feature.
It's part of the fall update
All games will be able to be copied to the hard drive to speed up load times and to fix some of the smaller glitches
I don't think this will be big. I mean, when you install a PS3 game, its like 4 second loads are now 2-3 second loads. Thats not major. Is that really that annoying? Not to mention that a DVD can hold 9 gigs. I think the first time someone with a 60gb installs a game and sees that they just lost 9gb of HDD space and all they gain was worthless load time reductions... that will also be the last time they install a game.
For my 360 games, it takes longer to go through all the logos than it usually does for me to navigate the start menu, load a game save and start playing it.
