Saints Row IV "Refused Classification" in Australia

This is insane

Even WITH the new R18+ rating that we got last year, it seems that SR4 isn't even acceptable for adult Aussies to play. While it says Refused Classification, the game isn't banned, meaning you are allowed to purchase it overseas (unoffically) but not 'display it openly'.

What does SW think of this? As an Aussie I couldn't care less about SR4, but it's weird to see that adults, including myself (I recently turned 18) aren't even allowed to purchase games such as these. Weird.

And here I found the Saints Row series to be quite tame compared to some of the stuff you see on basic cable.

In fairness thats not why they banned it the reason was "interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context," while I don't agree with banning it lets not confuse sexual violence with cartoon violence.

Most australians already import games because game prices there is ridiculous high, so i guess this matters very little to them.

Australia is the worst place for gamers. Very glad that I don't live there. Beautiful country, but sucks for gaming.

Liked Saints row 1, Hated saints row 2, and though I said I'd never play it unless I got it free since ps plus had it free I've now started playing saints row the third...my god is it stupid and I hate it.

I wouldn't play Saints row 4 even if they paid me too.

German here, we had to deal with crap like this for decades.

Many games get censored in this country. In SR1 they made changes to the whole game. Removed assassin and rampage side missions, made dead bodies disappear after 2 seconds, removed ragdoll effects, bodies on fire smoked instead of burned also the multiplayer was limited to people with the same version, while GTA IV was released completely uncensored.

Gears 1 was refused classification as well, you could still purchase the UK version, but it wasn't openly displayed.

RE4 on Gamecube had a little sticker on the back of the box that said "100% the same content as the English version" which turned out to be a blatant lie. They removed the mercenary mode you unlock after beating the game, where you kill zombies for points.

It's been getting better though, TLOU was released completely uncut for example.

The people putting these restrictions in place tend to be very worn men rather grumpy about the imminent prospect of death. They'll probably die soon and be replaced by slightly more modern people. You could try voting for people who make more sense, if there are any, but I hear that has very little impact. Especially if it's not costing them a ton of money.
We need research showing the influence of media on people and the influence of lack of media exposure. Then it becomes easy to be heard, and either they'll look the fool or bend.

I'll never understand what or rather WHO gives someone the right to deny responsible adults a legitimate means of entertaining themselves.

I'll guess the ratings board in Aussieland is rather like our BBFC here in the UK i.e unelected and largely unaccountable and still seems to have this rather strange view that these videogames are mainly for kids.
