Pretty good for a GTA knock-off, will get it when it's cheap.Deathtransit
I don't know if 'GTA knock-off' is totally fair anymore - sure, it borrows a hell of a lot, but the SR series has moved off into its own thing (which is to say, it's mostly insane and definitely doesn't take itself too seriously).
it is a fantastic series and i can't wait to play it.
why gta has not ripped off saints rows amazing controls i will never know.

This is the turning point, if SR3 delivers and GTA5 doesnt then it might be point it in front of GTA.
What makes you think Gamespot has some bias against silly games?A pretty good score seeing as GS don't rate silly game higher than 8.5.
I had great fun in SR2 hopefully the PC port is much better this time.

SR isn't even a GTA Knock off anymore they both went in opposite directions. There was a pretty awesome article about the history of the game - it wasn't even intended as a GTA knock-off in the beginning either, they had no idea that GTA San Andreas going in the gang direction. They were originally thinking 'hey, let's do an open world game that's all about GANGS!' So with SR2, they very carefully and deliberately went in a different direction from where GTA was going to avoid those kinds of comments haha[QUOTE="Deathtransit"]Pretty good for a GTA knock-off, will get it when it's cheap.spookykid143
Very nice. I wonder what the PC version will get - the visuals definitely seem more impressive (so that's one less negative), but the port could be...interesting.Planeforger
Have you seen how many advertisements are on Gamespot for this game? I wouldn't trust it regardless of the score. Why? There is no affiliation or respect in the overall literature towards video game reviews. Unlike books, film, and music there is no general review and concensus on what makes a video game review trusted online. Just like you saw Jeff Gerstmann of the former Gamespot leave, you can't expect to find an online forum where you can trust video game reviews until you remove any potential or influential bias towards a game because of a sponsorship....
I was wondering if the game will get repetitive...then I watched what you could do and that was no longer an issue. The game had more action packed story mission in the first 30-45 minutes than GTA4 saints row 3 is insane and I love it.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just like spawning barrels on people's head in gmod? Been there done dat, and gmod is funnier because you are not supposed to do it, if you are then meh.
I do prefer GTA 4s realistic physics etc because when you knock someone over it's always so random and funny. The euphoria engine means nothing is ever the same twice, so if R* give us the freedom of San andreas mixed with that awesome engine then I'm afraid SR will look dated in comparison. GTA5 has big potentialAm I the only one who thinks this is just like spawning barrels on people's head in gmod? Nope, I use Adblock Plus. :P
As for sponsorship though, I'd agree, but I really don't take scores too seriously anyway - they pretty much never influence my decision to buy games (I preordered this one months ago).
Having said that, even if they are little more than one person's (potentially biased) opinions on a game, it's still a decent sign when the majority of review sites aren't noticing major problems like "the game is three hours long" or "the game crashes every so often, but...".

the second you say "I" in your perception of sponsorship your analysing this problem in an anectodal manner. Consider it in an objective way and you might figure out what im trying to get at.

Oh I understand what you're getting at, I was just saying how little I cared.
Player reviews are often more valuable than website reviews; you can't trust corporate-sponsored websites; etc etc...the bias really doesn't matter to me on a personal level; I make up my own mind about games, and am usually pretty good about reading between the lines.
I don't really have anything to say one way or another on how factually accurate the bias may be. If it's there, then it's endemic to this form of entertainment and...that's just the way it is. So take reviews with a grain of salt and move on.
As for the Gerstmann thing, I just assumed that he left for constantly giving unprofessional reviews, and for being painfully unfunny. I wasn't sorry to see him go.
Anyway, if we are to assume that the review is corrupt and untrustworthy, then at least it might encourage the mindless horde of gamers-who-can't-make-up-their-own-minds to buy a game that genuinely looks quite fun. I've got no problem with it, in this case.

The fact is that things won't change until there is enough of an issue to make it do so. Im sorry but most people dont look at user reviews, they look at video game wesbsites because they are perceived to have the knowledge and trust to judge these sorts of things so that the buyer can make a proper purchase. However, this is completely jaded as you can see in every gaming website advertising for a game. its impossible to distinguish between a reliable review for a video game online and a fake one.

You make good points. I trust some youtube gamer reviewers such as 3kb who are independant. Some user reviews are worth a look as you get some that are well written and go in depth. Most I've seen are terrible though. Take the ones that award games 1/10 and there is a tiny paragraph with little explanation as to why and poor grammar.
It's a great series. It has sold pretty well to. Not as much as the more known and popular game series. But Saints Row is heading in that direction. While it may not appeal to some, as we all have our own tastes, it will definitely appeal to others.Still making that series? I'm surprised.

I pre-ordered it awhile ago. Gonna pick this up at the midnight release here. :PSame as IGN gave it, already got it pre ordered

I'm really going to enjoy playing it, unlike a lot of games being made now this one tends to focus on the fun which a lot of developers have forgotten about. I think the game is going to get a much higher score based on positive feedback from customers which at the end of the day is a lot more valuable than critics scores. I'm pretty sure a game as fun as Saint doesn't get a higher score because of GTA.
ganespot has been on a roll with the 8.5's lately
while that is a nice score I was getting the game regardless of what it might get.

Nothing wrong with a 8.5 imo. While you guys see a lot of 8.5's the actual score is probably higher. Just not enough to warrant a 9.0. So in actuality (going by the old gs score system) this game could have a 8.6 or 8.7, etc. But not high enough to round off to a 9.0ganespot has been on a roll with the 8.5's lately

I am getting this day one. I am holding off on zelda(get all my nintendo games for christmas), and skyrim(I want it for winter break). But King of fighters and saints row are two of my favorite series and I shalt not be denied.
Still making that series? I'm surprised.

It is regularly a million seller dude,THq already announced a fourth...I hope it does not become a yearly franchise.

I agree Saints row 2 felt nothing like a gta game honestly. SR is like shoot em up/sin city and GTA is like transporter/casino royal.
