First and last time I will talk about sales. The reason I want to talk about it is to show how flawed the sales system really is. First up we as gamers along with the videogame journalism we rely on two financial sources i.e. NPD and Vgchartz. NPD covers retail sales on the US alone and vgchartz covers retail sales worldwide. So out of the entire world wide web only these two financial sources know videogame sales meaning MSN money, yahoo finance, etc. don't know anything about videogame sales and the financial magazines that are out there don't talk about videogame sales. The other problem with the sales argument is we focused on one form of sale which is retail sales meaning the only way to buy a game is through any retail store i.e. gamestop or bestbuy. I would really loved to show you graphs and charts unfortunately the videogame journalism only covers retail sales. The other forms of sale are digital sales i.e. amazon.com, newegg.com, ebay.com, etc. these types of sales are important since digital shops offer special deals towards games i.e. for $60.00 you could get the forza trilogy on amazon.com or you could get a killzone 2 poster, two guns that are only available once you pass the game from the minute you start the game, the first dlc map pack is free of charge and the killzone 2 game of course for $50.00. The other sale form is catalog sales which pretty much is you buy your game from the catalog and pay small amounts of money on the game monthly but you don't have to pay the $60.00 at once. The other form of sale is import sales which is a major form of sale regarding Australian gamers why well because the Australian gov have a strong belief of that games are for kids not adults. This leads to say the m-rated games get either banned or censored so if an Australian gamer wants to play Killzone 2; however, this version happens to have that when the characters talk foul language you get bleep sounds or when a helghast bleeds well instead of blood is smoke particles. So in other for Australian gamers to get the full experience they need to import killzone 2 from the US or Asia what have you. This also impacts when games that are exclusive to a certain country besides US i.e. the yakuza franchise well if I want to play the yakuza franchise I need to import it from Japan. The final form of sales it regards to xbox 360 pirates that either want to get everything the xbox 360 offers at no cost i.e. xbox live, games, and movies or they modify their systems to import japanese, european, etc. games that are exclusive to those regions (DVD format has region lock blu-ray does not have region lock). These pirates are the ones that inflate xbox 360 sales because these are the gamers that buy a second or third brand new xbox 360 since once the xbox 360 is modified it voids the system's warranty therefore if a Microsoft technician finds out about the system to be modified it won't repair it and the gamer will get banned from xbox live or end up in jail for hacking the 360 to avoid this they buy a new xbox 360. On the ps3 side though scientists inflate the ps3 sales because they buy the ps3 system or a number of ps3 systems to do their scientific research. Do sales matter yes they do and because of 360 pirates and pirates in general more and more third party game developers are getting discouraged to move the game industry forward and decide instead to rely on the game franchises that made them successful or game genres that are guaranteed to print money i.e. fps, mmo, strategy, and western rpg. Now its obvious that 360 gamers buy their games from one form of sale which explains their lost to these former 13 exclusive games or franchises: 1.Ninja Gaiden franchise 2.Bioshock franchise 3.The sequel to Saint's Row 4. The sequel to Dead Rising 5. The sequel to Condemned 6. The prequel to A Call of Juarez 7. Alone in the dark 8. Full Auto 9.Lost Planet franchise 10. Chronicles of Riddick franchise 11.Tales of Vesperia 12. Eternal Sonata 13.Star Ocean 4 The xbox 360 also lost major xbla games: 1.Uno 2.Puzzle Quest franchise 3. Braid 4. Castle Crashers So if the xbox 360 games were doing so well in retail sales why did this system lost so many exclusive third party franchises; whereas, the ps3 only lost these third party exclusives: 1.Tekken franchise 2. Armored Core franchise 3. Devil May Cry 4 4. Ace Combat franchise The xbox 360 games also lost dlc exclusive content: 1.Fallout 3 dlc 2.The new Tomb raider game dlc content The ps3 does have exclusive free dlc content from third party game developers due to the fact that Microsoft prohibits free dlc content for the xbox 360: 1. Unreal Tournament 3: titan pack which includes new vehicles, new weapons, new maps, the titan character, and new game modes for freeeeeeeee 2. Batman Arkham Asylum: joker challenge rooms, home space, two new freeeeee challenge rooms Final Fantasy is not a third party exclusive franchise to the playstation brand because this franchise started on the nintendo system and the final fantasy crystal chronicles and the upcoming crystal bearers are on the nintendo wii. Metal Gear began on the msx system, Metal Gear Solid appear on the pc as well and the original xbox got Metal Gear Solid 2: substance which was directed by Hideo Kojima and the team that develop MGS2 sons of liberty (despite tanking in retail sales) {makes me wonder why the xbox 360 the successor to xbox failed to get a real metal gear game instead is getting a spinoff game not directed or produced by Hideo Kojima and not developed by MGS4 team} and the remake of Metal Gear Solid appear on gamecube as opposed to ps2; so no Metal Gear is not an exclusive third party franchise to playstation. The last supposedly third party exclusive to Sony is grand theft auto which guess what it has always been a multiplatform franchise so how and why would Microsoft allowed this multiplatform franchise become exclusive to Sony is beyond me. The ps3 despite not doing so well in retail sales still manages to get third party exclusive games: 1.Valkyria Chronicles franchise-Sega 2.Yakuza franchise-Sega 3. Demon Souls- Atlus 4. Time Crisis 4-Namco 5.MGS4-konami 6.Naruto ultimate ninja storm-Namco 7. Haze-defunct Free Radical *yes it did not sold for **** since it was garbage and led to Free Radical demise 8.White Knight Chronicles franchise-level 5 *most of level 5's games are on the nintendo ds or pc Upcoming third party exclusive games: 1. 3d dot heroes-atlus 2. Agent -rockstar 3. L.A. Noire-rockstar 4. Quantum theory-Tecmo 5. Heavy Rain-quantic dream So how this happen because ps3 gamers buy their games from all forms of sales i.e. retail, digital, catalog, and import; whereas, 360 gamers buy their games from retail stores only. That is why it happened. Again is not to bash the xbox 360 but facts are facts if it was up to my own opinion I would of say both systems have great games but that is my opinion what I give you are facts not my opinion and the truth is yes the xbox lost a lot of third party exclusive games what is also more painful to state is most of these former 360 exclusives the ps3 version got more game content, native hd resolution, shorter load times, almost to no bugs, glitches, or framerate issues found on the 360 version. If the rumours come true that Splinter Cell Convinction and the Mass Effect franchise end up on the ps3 then what will be the point to own a 360.? Hopefully that those two games stay exclusive to 360 for the sake of competition

the real reason why a console loses exclusives is the simple fact that those devs want to recoup the cost of development because it has risen so high this gen....

This part made me laugh. The rest was just much too hard to read. I think I started losing my comprehension levels about halfway through. But I still love that scientist and PS3 line. That is a classic.

Gee thanks! Yeah what I meant was there are so many ways to buy a game not just by retail stores but by a digital shop like www.amazon.com, catalogues like peachdirect, import games from www.playasia.com, swagbucks or lockers. The only sales tracking is by retail sales the other forms of sales are ignored.
