This argument as far as I am concerned is hilarious.

Just because a game sells well, does not mean its better the a game that sold less copies.

Then again, for those who don't understand how things of value are sold around in the everyday marketplace - I can't be shocked.

Few legitimately hold that opinion, so I don't see how this is an issue.

The argument only works one way...A quality game can in turn produce high sales. However, just b/c a game sells well doesnt mean its good. Its like a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not always a square

Yes, because we all know 50 Cent - Bulletproof stands as a successful game worthy of a sequel, seeing as it sold over 1.6 million units since launch. /end sarcasm. Real answer : No, no and NO. While great games can sell rather well, great sales do not necessarily translate to great games. Some of the best games last generation sold very poorly, despite critical acclaim (Psychonauts, Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, Okami, etc.).

Of course not.

The only thing we can definitely glean from sales is how much a game has sold.....full stop.

The speculation starts when you ask why it sold or did not sell. Critical acclaim, good word-of-mouth, popular franchise. Could be anything. It's important to look at because a game that sells well has a better chance of a sequel than one that doesn't sell well at all.

The same people who believe this are most likely the same people who believe people like Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, and Flo Rida are the greatest rappers ever since they sell so much.

No but sales determine what is the greatest value to the customers and what they prefer to spend their money on to own.

For example people want a Wii the most the 360 second most and the PS3 the least.

Not really, since a square is always a rectangle. A good game doesn't always sell, and a game that sells isn't always good.

The whole this game is better than that game argument is hilarious. Who's to say what is better? It's all personal preference. I won't say Halo 3 is better than Resistance 2 or KZ2. I'll say I like Halo 3 more. I wasn't given the authority to decide what is good or bad, only what I like or dislike.

No, not at all. They just determine how much people want something, but eventhen, people could just trade in their purchase because they may not like it.

I don't really dig Rap but I respect the skill and artistry of it, but the names are the funniest thing in our society. Flo Rida? Come on guy, if your that talented, you can do better than a mock up of a state name.

Let me put it to you this way: Fall Out Boy records have gone MULTI-PLATINUM. Have you heard Fall Out Boy LIVE? Their performances are atrocious, yet hundreds of thousands of millions of people PAY to see them play. This also goes to show you the phrase, "You get what you pay for" is not always applicable.

Both Wii itself as a system and its games is the perfect example to illustrate how wrong that statement is.

I'm betting the Halo 3 thread.

Except that Halo 3 has the critical critical acclaim and online traffic to back it up. The fact that it sold alot means there's every motivation to carry on the franchise in one form or another.

1. no it wasnt, that is just a stupid stereotype that it seems to carry, its one of the most difficult game I played last year.

2, it didnt sell that bad, it sold 550K which while not a huge success was s till an overall profit.
