Sales reality check (PS3 and 360 related)

SO when the term 'worldwide' is used, that's NA, EU/AU/Other and JPN I assume. What I do know is that the Xbox 360 is currently dominating the big English speaking countries, The US, Canada, UK and AU. Now, that may not sound important but localizations between the countries is an easy feat because no translation is required...

Translation costs developers a nice chunk of change and once again the Xbox 360 has proved it's value to the publishers and devs.

Along with this, you need to remind people what makes a specific system the winner.

i think the ps3 will oustell the 360 on a month to month basis, but it won't pass the 360's total sales until sometime in 2009.---OkeyDokey---

there are a lot of you out there who claim that the ps3 will surpass the 360 in ww sales by the end of this year. just to make sure you guys really know what you're saying, please tell us how far ahead the 360 is right now and how much of a sales boost the ps3 will need in order to pass it. once you post those numbers, do you still think it's possible?CaseyWegner

If Ps3 got their big titles early in '08, it wouldn't be that for fetched. But Ps3 is getting those big ones too far into '08 to do it.

it doesn't look like cows aren't really willing to say anything. maybe they were just saying ps3 would pass 360 hoping no one would call BS on them. well you have been found OUT cows!

I believe it's possible if they can come close in the USA, it's just improbable.

And just to get things straight Cows. If the PS3 fails this year it fails forever.

Reality check :

360 is around 10M ahead of PS3 .

360 is outselling PS3 in US almost 2:1 each month .

PS3 barely sell over 50k in Japan per month .

Uk is still owned by the 360 .

Let say that by some Miracle . PS3 start outselling 360 in UK 2:1 ( and lets forget that US sales 2 time more then UK ) .

that would sorta mean that PS3 sell 50k over 360 each month . 50k x 12 = 600k . 600k x20 = 12M .

it would take the PS3 a little less then 20 years to pass 360 overall sells :lol: !

I think what cows mean is that the PS3 will sell more than the 360 in 2008 because of the lineup of games that were supposely coming out, not overall

The PS3 catching up to the 360 is already over, it will never catch up. IF the 360 comes out with another console than maybe, I don't think were gonna see a PS4 anytime soon

They probably said it because of the user base of the PS2 that is around 120 million (and growing ). They might be suspecting them to jump off the fence later in the year and buy a PS3. Maybe some will buy PS3s, maybe some 360s. Im pretty sure some have already made thier choice, but 120 million is still alot.

Using VGchartz...since we have no other source for WW numbers...Ps3 is at 9.22 million, 360 is at 16.48 million. 360 is ahead by 7.26 million. Lets say 360 sells another 7 million this year(like it did in 07), which is generous considering '07 was supposed to be its biggest year(according to all the so called analysts). That brings 360 to 23.48 million. Ps3 would need to sell 14.26 million. Possible? Yes, but highly unlikely. Ps3 may take off(for a variety of reasons) or it may not.

Granted, I haven't visited SW in a while, but I don't think I've seen enough people claiming that ps3 will surpass total 360 sales in '08 to warrant this thread. If there should be any "Sales reality check" thread, it should excist to point out that the U.S. isn't the only place games sale. Too many people think NPD=world wide sales. To put it in perspective, Sony sold roughly 40 million ps2s in NA, 40 million in Europe, and 20 million in Japan.
