Sales struggle: Gears 2 vs. LBP

Which title do you think will sell more units?

From what I've gathered, both games have their own unique appeal to casuals. Yet at the same time, each has its own unique advantages that may govern how well they sell. For Gears 2, the name is already well established in the gaming world and thus already provides it with a significant following. As for LBP, Sony has undertook an aggressive advertising campaign of it, even going so far as to involve USA Today. It's not much to go on, but in the end I think both will sell very well, though I'm far from sure which will sell more.

Well, there's more 360's out there, and less 360 exclusives to compete with. The obvious answer is GeoW2, based on the fact the first one did incredible and this is the followup.SolidTy

I think I'm going to pass on LBP now, It was on my list of must have games for the fall, but I think I'll wait for the first price drop or the million sellers price drop.

Now that is a good question. GeoW2 will sell 3-6 million, by my guesstimation.

LBP will be lucky to break 2 million by the end of the year.

Gears 2-One of the 360's best selling games, has chainsaws, perfect for 360's demographic

LBP-On the less popular system, far from appealing to the console's demographic (aside from hardcore gamers and cows), its teh kiddeh.

Gears will probably win.

lbp is a downloadable game?

it's hard to say because Gears is a proven franchise. you can pretty much say it'll sell like 6-7 Million.

LBP is a new IP with alot of potential, and if it sells that much it won't be right away. sony is going to have to market it well, and I see them bundling it with PS3 eventually. It all depends on how much sony pushes it. it'll be more of a long term thing with LBP.

The release of gears 2 will not result in any significant growth to the 360 FPS market. The market for gears 2 is pretty well established. LBP is new and inavative. I have not played it but have heard it lived up to the hype. In the long LBP could gain alot of momentum.

My friend with a PS3 has no idea what LBP is. So I don't know.

Im not sure about little big planet, I know it will be selling at least one since I will be picking it up

Ill be picking gears 2 up, but later since its not high on my priority list and Im already picking up fable 2 today and LBP when it comes out

meh, who cares. LBP will offer what's lacking in a lot of games today,especially on console, and that's creatvity. Gears 2 represents what's wrong with this Industry, shoveling out the same BS every other year (see: CoD and MoH and EA Sports games etc..) in hopes to cash in on a first great game. It's a great business strategy, and you can't blame Epic for wanting to make large sums of money, but having creative games like LBP on the market will allow far more interaction and re-playability that Gears 2 could only dream of. I loved Gears 1, but it's not even close as to what's the better value, if you're a multi-console owner that is.

I think the attach rate of LBP is going to be very very strong, and I see it keeping pace with Gears 2, especially since we have Fable 2 and Fallout 3 coming out on the platform as well. I think once people play Fallout 3, many are going to wait until they finish it until they pick up Gears 2. As for LBP, It's the game to buy a PS3 for, very similar to what Gears 1 was for 360 when it came out. I see it moving tons of PS3's, that is, if Sony can market it in the coming months before the holidays.

that's my strategy as well. I just picked up Fable 2, it's great so far..lovign it. Picking up LBP the day it comes out, can't wait, maybe it's the modder in me. I'll get Fallout 3 next week for PC, and I'll wait until Decemeber, maybe January for Gears 2 and FarCry 2(PC).

Who cares if a game sells more, does that mean you will enjoy it more?

Nope, I have to disagree with it selling more systems. It would be pretty ridiculous for a person who's wanted a 360 to wait for GeoW2 to come out before buying one and everyone I know who's wanted one has already bought one for either GeoW1, Halo 3, and COD4. I really don't see substantial growth to the Xbox userbase for a sequel to a game that was released this gen. A huge amount of software will be sold though, I'm guessing maybe a fourth of 360 owners will buy it.
