PC and racing / sports games aside, I've noticed a lot of action, platformer, and even puzzle games coming out on X360 (after the release of Halo 3) with saved films feature were you get to download replays from others and from leaderboards.

same happened after the release of Gears of War back in 2006 with console online coop for FPS and action games.

anyway, what's your take on those trends, would you like more games to have them on X360 and other platforms, or you don't think they add much value?

Skate was released multiplatform and before halo 3 and it had recording. There have been lot of games that have had this option before. It's nothing new.

PGR3 had that before skate. But I'm somewhat trying to exclude racing / sports games, cause most of them have this feature (few of them with the upload feature).

anyway, the feature I'm talking about is uploading & sharing them with others. Does skate allow you to do that?

well i can't quite see the link between ghost recon and the online coop trend we're having today. Cause not many games after ghost recon had it not until gears came out then it somewhat became a trend. Hence, the reason why i can't credit this trend to Ghost Recon.

Kameo had coop also. But i don't remember them being from start to finish (only selective maps i guess)

however, i feel gears somehow made every developer realize how entertaining coop could be if done well.

it didn't, but i think the 360 popularized it. i hope the co-op love train continues along all consoles, though! definitely the way to go.

Downloading replays is nothing new... It happened before Halo. DOA 4 even has the ability to download replays of entire matches... :|

Online Co-Op isn't something I'd consider "revolutionary" either... it's been around. Just now the focus of online integration has been increased in games and the ability to hop in and out whenever (a la Crackdown) and more fluid ease of online features during gameplay are the prime.

Everything is copied from PC, the difference is that its usually terribly executed on the PC or is full of bugs/inconsistancies that allow for perpetrating theivery or vandalism.

Damage control would imply damage has been done. Online-coop has been a blast back in '01 with Serious Sam. Advanced movie/demo making tools since Quake 2. Halo 3 just biting off features from the PC? Check. Cant say i blame them. Some platform has got to have some originality.

I am saying those aren't gimmicks and the 360 made features like Co-Op and Save films a lot better then they were ever on the PC. There have been a lot of advancements in gameplay on Consoles more then PCs in the last 8 years.

Most of these extraneous features were already polished by the time they debut on consoles. The reason they aren't prevalent on PCs is because of technical issues. But first, saving films is common on the PC because there are so many third party tools that do it. That's one extraneous feature that PCs do much better than consoles.

Online co-op, however, is harder because online co-op is best with friends, and PC games don't have a common online platform like XBL. Xfire is the closest you'll probably get, but most games don't integrate Xfire. This will probably change as digital distribution systems like Steam take over, because they will at least have a common online platform between games released on a particular DD system.

All the theatre haters must really suck at games.....I mean how could you hate that feature. ITs awesome. Live your greatest kills, your biggest shockers, your biggest mistakes, and your funnies moments in an online mp. If Bungie did something amazing with Halo 3, it was definantly the theatre and forge.

Online COOP is just plain awesome, and the 360 has some fun online coop games.

Halo 3, Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, Crackdown, etc

And soon Gears 2, Fable 2, Too Human, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Yeah, you wish. Save films are MUCH better on PCs than on consoles. I don't see how anyone can argue that point. Saving replays has been a part of the mod community practically since the very beginning, and a support community has grown up around building tools to convert the saved replays into actual movies. Where do you think machinima started? Do you really think "Red vs. Blue" was the first? All consoles did was to make them "officially supported," which isn't much of a benefit.

As for co-op, that is one thing that consoles did better than PCs, but only because consoles had the benefit of common online platforms. That's one downside of an open platform like the one that exists for PC gaming: there's no set standard for these kinds of things, so the benefits of a common platform -- like full in-game online integration -- are lost. But Xaosll is right: it's a gimmick at best.

Saved Films & online co-op are fine, but what halo did that the PC can't touch is Splitscreen online play (Guests, parties etc.)

I'm not sure if halo did it first though.

I agree, its what came to mind when I thought of Save Films/Replay/Edit for PC(FRAPS). So in a sense, PC copied itself which, is not a bad tihng by any means.

Saved films are friggen sweet in Halo 3. I love saving videos then making short clips to show how hard I owned someone lolllllllll. I also love the fact that on Halo 3 you can share user made maps... what's even sweeter is that if you're checking someones user made map on the bungie website you can download it from your computer.... then when you go on your xbox 360 it's ready to play instantaneously.... how friggen cool is that?@!?!??!
