That game everyone loves shitting on is giving users the chance to try it for free if you're poor or not duped yet. Prob takes ages to download, so eh.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-11-16-star-citizen-is-free-to-try-for-eight-days-starting-next-week

Star Citizen is free to try for eight days starting next week

Every ship available to test-drive too.

Star Citizen's latest Free Fly event begins at 4pm GMT/8am PST on November 23rd, and runs through November 30th. It's being held to celebrate, among other things, the introduction of the game's first explorable planet, Hurston. Chris Roberts showed off the impressive location, and its sprawling hub city of Lorville, back in October. You can check it out in the video below.

Free Fly participants can join Star Citizen's persistent universe to experience the new celestial body first-hand, and will also get the chance to test-drive every available ship in the game. A new rotation of ships, each themed around a specific in-game manufacturer, will come into play at 8am each day, so you'll need to pop back regularly to experience them all.

November 23rd brings the complete Anvil Aerospace line-up, followed by Roberts Space Industries on the 24th, Origin Jumpworks on the 25th, Aegis Dynamics on the 26th, Drake Interplanetary on the 27th, Alien Manufacturers on the 28th, Musashi Industrial and Starflight Concern on the 29th, and Kruger/Argo/Tumbril/Consolidated Outland on the 30th. A detailed schedule of available ships by day can be found on the Star Citizen Free Fly event page.

Based on previous free-to-try events, those looking to get involved will likely first need to create an account on the Star Citizen website, then complete a few details on a Free Fly sign-up page - although it doesn't appear that one has gone live just yet.

Among other things, Free Fly participants will be able to experience the features introduced in Star Citizen's recent 3.3 update, including reportedly significant performance improvements, and the game's impressive face-recognition tech, which enables in-game avatars to replicate the expressions of their users via a standard webcam. The possibilities are endless.

I backed it for Squadron 42. Squadron 42 was supposed to be released at the end of last year.

Looks like they need more money. Apparently Chris Roberts still doesn't have enough money for retirement.

or its just taking much longer to develop?

Given that the new flight model isn't coming until March now.... why the hell would you want SQ42 to release with its current gameplay polish? it would be shit.

Sweet! I already backed the game, but I am looking forward to trying out some of the other ships. I love my Freelancer, but I feel the need for something else. Would love to try out that sexy stealth ship (sabre I think)

“Scam Citizen”? That’s not funny.

Star Citizen is the Holy Grail for PC gamers.

I’m not even that mean.

It's cool that it's free for a week but I lost complete interest after all the years of waiting for a release date.

$200 million has to be one of if not the largest scams in history right?

It boggles the mind that anyone can see this game as anything other than a scam.

Lol. None of the people calling it a scam have a gaming PC to try it out on.

That being said.....I’m starting to fear how long it will be until SQ42 releases. That’s the whole reason I’ve been interested.

Indeed. I know it's not a game for me as I don't like space sims but calling it a scam is just lol worthy and shows how salty these people are.

Yeah, all the people who didn't fall for the scam are salty. That's what it is.

What really lol worthy are the people still defending it.

Your post boils down to this.

• "None of the people calling it a scam have a pc to try it out on. Lol"

• "I'm starting to fear it's a scam."

Perhaps you shouldn't make quips at people who are smarter than you, and figured out this was a scam a hundred million bucks ago.

In gaming maybe, if it turns out to be a scam. But outside of gaming, $200 million scams can't be top tier scams. I remember the early SMS scams (like with Pretium Telecom) that made them 100's of millions by scamming a tiny country counting 17 million people. They weren't even seriously hindered by police or law, I guess it wasn't a priority.

So I suspect some phone scams in the USA made billions.

@kali-b1rd: So you admit that there is no gameplay in Scam Citizen.

Because from all the trailers and demos I have watched, all I have seen was the main character walking around a ship, a city, a planet and then he hops inside a ship to fly around empty space. Yawn. :/

Tell me, what is there actually to do in this “game” as of within this free demo week?

Because if I download this thing and all I can do is walk around and look at some empty buildings, empty ships and empty space....I am going to be insanely disappointed.

This game has been in development for 7+ years.

Games like freaking Mass Effect Andromeda have more content. That game was made with barely any effort, tons of bugs and still managed to get pumped out with 1.5 years of development.

@kali-b1rd: So you admit that there is no gameplay in Scam Citizen. There's no final gameplay loop yet correct.

Because from all the trailers and demos I have watched, all I have seen was the main character walking around a ship, a city, a planet and then he hops inside a ship to fly around empty space. Yawn. :/ Yea, because these features needed to be developed first? seems obvious.

There are a few variants of missions available, combat, cargo, mining... in very basic forms currently. There is also the Arena Commander mode which is your standard Multiplayer CoD style space and shooter modes.

Tell me, what is there actually to do in this “game” as of within this free demo week? Exactly what is said above, its not a finished game, nobody has claimed otherwise.

Because if I download this thing and all I can do is walk around and look at some empty buildings, empty ships and empty space....I am going to be insanely disappointed. Good for you. Then I suggest you don't download it.

This game has been in development for 7+ years. You can make anything sound bad without any deeper detail than that. Also forgetting that the SP campaign is also developed alongside this which they can't show much of without spoiling it.

Games like freaking Mass Effect Andromeda have more content. That game was made with barely any effort, tons of bugs and still managed to get pumped out with 1.5 years of development. I mean, if you can't tell the difference between an already millions of dollars studio like Bioware with an already complete engine (just enhanced) making the same style game as before with a fraction of technology being developed for star citizen then I can't help you.

Mass Affect franchise - your ship is a small map, you click the navigation to teleport to another map, outdated 3rd person shooter combat with light RPG elements.

All of these elements are done to death and already made by tons of developers.

Yea, we know ME came out in 1.5 years.

We know Destiny claimed to be what Star Citizen was and ended up being Halo meets world of warcraft with spaceship loading screens.

I know pleanty of people will be dissapointed with Star Citizen ... because they have never touched a flight sim or sim game in general and cry because they don't get thier instant gratification every 5 minutes like their usual games.

If you want a fair comparison (technically not fair because Elite Dangerous was already way in development prior to its kickstarter/crowdfunding) then that is a better comparison ... in which the foundations of Star Citizen already shows far more potential.

Maybe we should compare it to other flight sims on the market... which cannot do a fraction of the elements with their vehicles.

Nah, that would be too much common sense.

@dxmcat: yeah Elite blew my mind at first but after a week I quickly realized what a grindy boring mess it was. I was rinse and repeating to get new ships. I do think SC will hold my attention longer because I can explore planets and talk to npcs and other players but eventually with no goal in mind I will get bored. This is why I’ve just wanted to play SQ42 from the beginning cuz I dearly miss mission based space combat filled in with story and crew interaction. I really wish SQ42 and SC were different things released at different times much like Wing Commander came before Privateer. Btw whoever misquoted me earlier I never said that I fear this is a scam but I do fear we may not get SQ42 for a while to come. It’s obvious not a SCAM because the game is built, it’s original, you can ALREADY play it, and it will eventually have a 1.0 release. A late game is not a scam. If that was the case then wouldn’t Breath of the Wild be a scam since it was about 2 years late? No, it wasn’t. In fact they just wanted to make sure they didn’t release some turd like the annual Ass Creed or CoD crap we see. What happened with BOTW after they took their time to make it right even though it angered fans due to being late? It won GOTY. It’s like you peeps don’t have a clue as to how game development works and assume making a new game idea in a new engine with a new team can be done in one year. It’s 2018 now right? When did the original RDR come out? How many years was that? Do some math for me since you can so that with a calculator and it doesn’t require any individual thought.

3.3 Alpha is out now and very soon 3.3.5 will be out with Hurston. It's not a scam, the game is actually pretty good now that people can get above 20fps. I'm getting up to 80fps in the alpha and some lucky people even get an fps in the triple digits. This latest alpha is the closest it has ever gotten to feeling like a game and not a tech demo.

You should try it before you knock it. I'm betting most of the people here talking about it being a scam haven't even played it before and are recycling talking points of random Youtubers.

We can now find out because in game ship purchasing, with in game money, has been added with 3.3

Just because they've invested a bit of money back into their scam, doesn't make it legit. Hell, even Bernie Madoff invested money into his ponzi scheme. Didn't make him legit. Just made him more money... Kinda like SC is doing it.

Either way, the project began in 2011. So it's a year older than that. And by the rate things are going, it will hit the 10 year mark before too long.

Console brains trying to crash the concept of PC gaming.

Most games on PC are never done. Not even league of legends is ever done, not even world of warcraft is ever done. This is the same thing but a space game. You fund it and you play it or you don't and get your money refunded.

"Crowdfunding began in 2012."

Either way, the project began in 2011. So it's a year older than that. And by the rate things are going, it will hit the 10 year mark before too long.

It's not vaporware, people are playing it right now as we speak and keeps progressing steadily. You would know this if you played it.

Give it a free try this upcoming week and see for yourself.

^ This is actually a very good point. If anything, Star Citizen will be like Minecraft and constantly keep coming up with new ideas for updates. It adds alot of replay value to the game too. By 2019 or so, Star Citizen might even end up better than even Red Dead Redemption 2. Who knows? But the fact that more is being added on, gives it the ability to only get better.

"AAA titles this big requires time" 2011-2018. They are trying to beat Duke Nukem Forever's dev time. LOL

The game is actually starting to get close to a point where I feel interest.

From watching videos though I feel its not ready yet, not to mention I have far too many games I am deep into already

@davillain-: Well you can't play the full game as it doesn't exist in finished form and the way its going it never will, so yeah its a demo.

A game's development gotta start somewhere you know. I haven't even started playing 3.3 yet, too much stuff I gotta do first before I can move on into other games :(

It's sad when no man sky got their act together and this pyramid scheme is still unfinished.

You mean you have actual games to play at the moment.
