They spent around 68 million dollars on advertisement. Of course it's going to sell big.

This. It's mandatory in South Korea to buy Star Craft and thus they don't count the sales there.

3 billion of which is South Korea ;) unless it has not released there, in which case it will jump to 8 mil, lol. South Koreans love their Star Craft.

Not surprising that it's still selling.. I myself just recently picked it up.

I've watched the GSL for a long time so I know a lot *about* the game.. however I'm hilariously bad at it. I can't macromanage worth a damn.

Not suprising, since the SP was one of the best experiences I've played this gen, and the MP, need I even comment on that? :P It truely deserved a 10 here, imo.

I quit playing it basically 3 days after it came out. I've returned to it a couple of times to check out the cool custom maps. But the singleplayer was SO bad. I don't usually play singleplayer for gameplay, so maybe that's why I hated it. I was just expecting a really deep story from them because they said this was their first game where they really focused on the SP. And of course it was a lie. I only watch SC2 when the GSL is on, and even then I'm starting to lose interest. If it was balanced I'd watch it of course but I'm tired of zerg getting steamrolled by terran lol. Tanks + marines ftw!

Nah..

July recently beat pretty much THE best Terran in the world (Nada.) Watch those matches if you haven't.. his hyper-aggressive Zerg play is really entertaining. The first two games were ridiculously lop-sided in his favor. His Muta play was quite beautiful in a couple sets.. the last one in particular.

Also, check out Leenock's games. He's a beastly Zerg even though he's only in Code A.

What about Mario Kart Wii and the Wii play series:P ? Doubt it'll outsell those but I think it will outsell Halo. Maybe not this year or the next but pc games tend to still sell years after their release.

I see the piracy card is right on cue. PC games tend to sell more copies over time than consoles games, where there's an initial sales explosion before dropping exponentially.

Over time, SC1's popularity didn't explode until Brood War released. Considering there's still 2 expansion packs left, I'd say SC2 has a lot of life in it and will most likely outsell the original.

This means that Black Ops sold more within 24 hours of availability only in the U.S. and UK, than StarCraft II has done to date worldwide.

Pretty entertaining, taking into account the fact that most PC gamers expected SCII to transcend Black Ops in sales.

How much has Black Ops sold? I'm guessing around 17-23 million which is impressive but Starcraft 2 has the potential to sell 10mill+ on one platform, while Black ops is available on 5 different systems.

That's 4.5 million on a single platform AND its's an RTS, and almost certainly doesn't include SK sales since people there don't buy games like we do. They buy game "passes" in order to play them in cafes and tournaments and stuff.

Vs a game that is available on 5 platforms and is an FPS - a MUCH more popular genre, and whose advertising budget was probably severla times larger than SCII's and who's sales were mostly retail rather than digital.

I bet you that although the numbers are super skewed in terms of sales, in terms of PROFITS which is what they actually care about, the difference is probably no where near as large.

Think about it. Estimates are that almost 70% of SCII sales were digital. A digitla sale on PC at $60 nets several times more profit than a retail sale does on consoles. That mean about 3 million sales on PC were equivalent in profit to anywhere between 6 and 9 million retail console sales, so alreayd we're tlaking about 7-10 million EQUIVALENT sales + SK sales and god knows how many evetual chinese sales? Plus a lower marketing budget?

For the prestige of this game im not impressed, we can hide behind loads of excuses. but in the end this doesnt even match the console blockbusters first month sales let alone overall. yes yes "teh pc games sell slower but more" no .... blizzard get they ass kissed so much for what they actually do.

Umm.. no. Where did you even see that? No rational person would say something like that. Who in their right mind would expect any game to outsell BO?
